Funny / Champions (2016)

  • When Kamala first comes up with the idea of forming a new team, Miles completely rejects the idea. Kamala's response is to put Miles in a choke-hold until he agrees.
  • As Kamala tries to pitch the idea for the team, Sam quietly whispers to Miles predicting exactly what she was going to say as if she repeated this like a broken record before. Both of their "here we go again" expressions sell it.
  • At the end of the first issue, everyone on the team checks a Twitter-like social media site as everyone seems to rally under their cause. As Viv checks, she stares at her empty hand as if looking at a smart device seemingly so that she wouldn't look like the odd man out since everyone else was staring at a phone.
    • Another possibility is that the close up of her face suggests there's a light source shining on her, so the reason she doesn't have a phone in her hand is because she has a phone in her hand.
  • While having a team camp-out, Kamala suggests they tell ghost stories. Viv then processes this and says that ghosts are alive but not, human but not, and can turn intangible at will... then asks Kamala if she was trying to be racist to her.
    • The girls are able to get Amadeus out of their hair for awhile by asking how high he can jump. Nova and Spider-Man just keep staring airborne while Kamala leads Viv away, glad to be rid of the stench of sweat and body spray for a few minutes.
    • The issue opens up with The Champions cooking kababs on an open fire... and naturally Hulk's is gigantic, to Miles' disbelief.
  • It turns out Viv has Wifi. Her password is EVENANANDRO1DCANCRY.
  • Issue 3 has Viv state that her kissing Amadeus did nothing for her, suggesting that she might prefer the other sex. Kamala instantly shuts down Miles and Sam by stating that she isn't in the experimenting mood.
    • Also in issue 3 Amadeus and Kamala start arguing who is their leader. Sam whispers to Miles to "watch this" and then says out loud Cyclops should lead them. Towards the end of the issue Scott and Amadeus are still bickering about it.
    • When Amal is giving instructions to the team, both Scott and Kamala nominate her to be team leader.
  • Issue 4, they're still bickering over who is leader, but after Amadeus gets everyone captured by Atlantians, they all vote that Amadeus is NEVER leader.
  • Over in Nova (2017) #2, Richard Rider ends up meeting the Champions and is flabbergasted at meeting the teenage heroes. Then, he meets the young Cyclops.
    Rich!Nova: You're Ms. Marvel?
    Kamala: Yup.
    Rich!Nova: What happened to Carol?
    Kamala: You mean Captain Marvel?
    Rich!Nova: He's dead.
    Miles: She's not.
    Rich!Nova: ...and you're Spider-Man?
    Miles: Yup.
    Rich!Nova: Is he dead, too?
    Miles: No.
    Kamala: Cyclops is.
    Rich!Nova: Cyclops?!
Cyclops: Hi. My adult self went crazy and died. I'm from the past and stuck in this time.
Rich!Nova: I hate everything about that sentence. And you are?
Viv: I am the synthetic daughter of Vision.
Rich!Nova: Is every super hero twelve now?
    • Extra hilarious, because Rich was a high-schooler himself when he first started his superheroics.
      • Some feel Rich not bringing up Monica and Genis (and baffling everyone not named Kamala) was a missed opportunity though.
    • Rich also mentions that he was part of the New Warriors. The young heroes are confused, with Kamala going "They were... a team."
  • Issue 5 has the entire team trying to get through to Gwenpool that not everything is so black and white when it comes to the actions of others, and that people in authority can be bigoted jerks without secretly being supervillains (thereby making it perfectly fine to punch and shoot them). By the end of the issue, Amadeus screams out "Totally Awesome Hulk Smash." at Gwen's constant refusal to understand this bit and Kamala's left facepalming.
