Fridge / Z-O-M-B-I-E-S (2018)

Fridge Brilliance:

  • The movie logo looks like it should be spelled out rather than pronounced, keeping in line with the cheerleading aspect of the film.
  • The movie's Alpha Couple are Addison and Zed; from A to Z.
  • Many times in the past, invading armies have used claims of cannibalism and human sacrifice to demonize native people (think Heart of Darkness), so it's a great metaphor for racial paranoia. It's also why the zombies are of various ethnicities.
  • The movie gives a subtle take on different communities:
    • The zombies seem very close to each other. Whereas in the first musical number, Addison probably doesn't even know the names of the bikers she greets. She just does it out of courtesy. The oppressed zombies have to stick together since the only ones that will help them are each other, while the humans that are "free" aren't connected.
    • The zombies have different ways to express themselves, like in dance and art. They customize their uniforms, while Seabrook citizens are provided with clothes which, while two different colors, are all the same and might as well be considered uniforms.
  • The zombies have a very good reason to hate fire. Ever heard of a crematorium? That is of course assuming the zombies are actually ''dead''.
  • Zed's first team number is zero. Not only does it keep in line with the zombies' association with 'Z', but also how Seabrook sees zombies as "less-than-human" at first, as "zeroes."
  • Of course Addison's hair is cut to look awful. If it was flattering and attractive, just in an odd color, she might decide she wants to be different and go out without her wig. By keeping it in an unattractive cut, her parents guaranteed she'd keep looking normal—even if Addison decided she liked the color, the terrible cut would be enough to convince her to put on the wig. Noticeably, the promos for the sequel show Addison with a similar haircut to her wig, just white.
  • In the song "Fired Up", Bucky sings "We're fired up! We're fired up! We're fired up!", but it could actually translate as him going It's All About Me while disguising it as a cheer, as well as him imposing his will and authority on the other members (and soon-to-be members), as shown later when he cuts anyone supporting the zombies.
Bucky: Well, I'm gonna win, y'all can come too.
    • When Addison leads the number, she sings "You're fired up!" This is both different from her cousin to reflect their differing opinions, and sounds like an actual cheer to get the crowd "fired up."
      • On that note, the part where Bucky repeats "We're fired up" would sound more conventional compared to when Addison breaks the repetition. It could be a slight nod to Seabrook's conformity, so all-rounded that it even seeps into music (a form of art, which thrives on creativity).
  • Seabrook has a wide variety of vanilla. It might be to reflect Seabrook's conformity and blandness, but there's another thing. Seabrook also demands perfection; vanilla is called the king of ice cream flavors.
    • It also represents the segregation influence on the movie. On the window of the ice cream shop, it says "No Zombies" like how there used to be "No Blacks" signs on specific places when there was segregation. And what color is vanilla? White.
  • The scale shown when Eliza hacked Zed's Z-Band looks like a curve. This could actually represent a gauge of safety:
    • The middle is the default setting for the Z-Bands. It is the safest setting on the Z-Bandnote  and allows zombies to live "human" lives without having to eat brains.
    • Too human (as Eliza put it) is on the far left. On this setting Zed was clearly in pain at some points, so it's possible the Z-Band is not designed for that much output(which in some machines can result in explosions).
    • "Too zombie" is on the far right. While this setting poses no threat to the zombies themselves, it reverts them back to mindless, brain-eating, traditionally-portrayed zombies.
  • In regards to the third movie, the werewolves' Great Alpha prophecy was technically true. She does lead them to the moonstone, and her peculiar hair color does make her an alpha, though rather she's the alpha of the space aliens.
