Fridge Brilliance
Season 1
- There was a lot of foreshadowing as to the identity of Margaret's killer that occurred early on.
- Dwayne's first theory immediately after ruling out suicide was that a bird flew through and smashed the window.
- Numerous pieces of owl imagery pop up on the courtroom walls and all over town as establishing shots.
Season 2
- The Running Gag where by law, women driving on East Peck have to have someone ahead of her warning the public by waving red flags and yelling "Lady driver!" It initially may seem like a harmless continuing joke, but if you pay attention, this is a key hint that Lavinia is guilty; she doesn't have a flag boy in front of her car on the night of the murder, because why would she want him to know where she was going?
- A subtle one, but each defendant's choice in pets is a clue as to their innocent/guilt. Larry had his dog Shakespeare as a short hand to demonstrate that Heroes Love Dogs. By contrast, Lavinia owns a hairless cat named Fluffy, bringing to mind the Right-Hand Cat trope. And indeed, halfway through the season Lavinia is acquitted of Edgar's murder, and is shown to be a lot more calculating, ruthless and cunning than she initially let on.
