    Fridge Logic
  • Tatsuya supposedly ended up in the second course because the test aren't reflective of his own true skill. That seems fair, except that magicians are shown to be considered military assets first and foremost, is shown multiple times during the series. Tatsuya is a high-regarded member of the military, who is very aware of his skills, so they must have been aware (as Tatsuya was) that his skills wouldn't have emerged in those tests. Yet instead of updating them or revising them to make sure that him and similar students wouldn't go unnoticed they kept the system as it is.

    Fridge Brilliance
  • An example mixed with Fridge Horror: why is Miyuki is repulsed by men other than her brother? Because the Yotsuba probably designed her to have no problems with incest, or put a spell on her to not be romantically attracted to anyone but Tatsuya. They've amply shown their ability and willingness to do things like that.
  • Some of the songs in the original soundtrack take cues from Indian classical music (example). The genre choice is a subtle nod to Tatsuya's nickname, Mahesvara, which is an epithet of Shiva, one of the primary gods of Hinduism.
    • Another musical example is this song, which features lyrics from the Bollywood song "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai." The lyrics, when translated, talk about the feelings the singer has when someone they love gets close to them. Fitting that it plays in scenes where Tatsuya is alone with Miyuki, the only person who can gauge an emotional response from him.
  • The Yotsuba wanted a magician who could protect all their children, so why was the result so apocalyptic? Because with humans, everybody is related- however distantly- to everybody else. The clan didn't specify "someone strong enough to protect our direct descendants" or "someone strong enough to protect everyone who has the Yotsuba surname". They said, "our children", so where does the spell stop? Do foreigners like Lina count as relatives because she and the Yotsuba have a common ancestor? If so, how much power would someone sculpted to protect relatives across the globe need? It's just another way that the Yotsuba got exactly what they asked for, and nothing less.

    Fridge Horror
  • The only reason Miyuki found the truth in Reminiscence is because she was lucky. If Miya had cared about keeping her actions secret, she could have. If Miyuki hadn't almost died, she would never have learned what Tatsuya could do— remember that he wasn't even vaguely interested in telling her the truth beforehand. If any of those things didn't happen, or happened a different way, she would have stayed an oblivious pawn forever.
