Fridge Horror

  • The ending of the film makes you realize how many people died in the disaster, but unlike the protagonists, we don't know anything about them because they lacked a camera. If Hud had not had the camera, then the protagonists would also be forgotten.
    • At least their families and friends will get some closure on finding out what happened to them. One would imagine that, like with 9/11, many people's bodies would never be recovered.
    • Or quite probably not. All of the classified warnings bookending the film strongly suggest that the tape would never see the light of day, meaning that officially the group would just be listed as "missing."
  • If that big monster was just a baby, then how big is the mother?
    • If the ending of The Cloverfield Paradox is anything to go by, a fully-grown one is tall enough to reach above the clouds.
  • If the last words in the film are, "It's still alive", then that means they went to the second part of the Hammerdown Protocol, where they destroyed the entire city.
    • Worse still is that because you never see Clover in the nuclear blast, it's impossible to tell if the bomb actually hurt him in anyway. For all the viewer knows, at least excluding Word of God, it could have done nothing at all. That final roar in the explosion may not have been out of pain, but mere aggravation.
  • What must all of the people in Brooklyn, The Bronx, and Queens be thinking of all of this wanton destruction going on nearby? Were they also destroyed by the Hammerdown??
  • During the evacuation, it's very possible that Lily watched her friends' chopper go down. And if she survived and escaped unharmed, she'll be in for some nasty heartbreak when she sees the footage of what happened next...

Fridge Brilliance

  • Just before Clover kills Hud, it looks down at him and just stares curiously for an unusually large amount of seconds. Considering that it is an infant, it would make sense that Clover would be behaving this way, as a human baby seeing an individual ant for the first time would be to just observe it in wonder. And also, as human infants tend to do, it would chew on it as a first instinct.
  • Throughout the movie, the Army is seen using M109 self-propelled howitzers and M270 MLRS systems in up-close frontline areas. Self-propelled howitzers in real life typically aren't used this way, as their armor isn't strong enough to provide any protection against most kinds of weapons. However, armor makes no difference against giant monsters, so it makes sense that they could be used in this role.
  • The giant parasites have a bite that causes humans to swell with blood and explode. This actually sort of makes sense; many blood-sucking parasitic animals have anti-coagulating saliva to allow them to feed without the bite wound scabbing over. And well, the parasites were adapted for feeding on a Nigh-Invulnerable kaiju, so it would naturally have a rather extreme reaction in a small, much weaker human body.
