My Amnesia Girl is a Filipino Romantic Comedy film that was released in 2010. It stars John Lloyd Cruz and Toni Gonzaga. The movie is directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina and is one of the highest-grossing Filipino films of 2010.
The film is about a man named Apollo who saw his ex-fiance Irene again three years after he left her at the altar during their wedding. When he tries to reunite with her, Irene claims that she doesn't know him because she has amnesia as the result of an accident. Except that she didn't have an accident and was faking it to avoid him. Apollo still tries to win her back to make amends with her despite her being "amnesiac".
Tropes:
- Amnesiac Lover: Subverted. Irene pretends to have amnesia in an attempt to avoid her ex-fiancé Apollo for leaving her at the altar. When Apollo tries to bond with her again, she slowly falls in love with him again despite her "amnesia". Then this gets Double Subverted when Apollo becomes this to Irene after he gets in a car crash while he and Irene are about to get back together.
- Faking Amnesia: When Irene sees Apollo again in a grocery store three years after he abandons her at their wedding and attempts to make up with her, she claims that she has amnesia and doesn't know him, which drives the plot.
- Ironic Echo: When Apollo asks Irene how she is after he and his friends see her again and he walks up to her in a grocery store, she asks "Who are you ?" in an attempt to avoid him. Near the end, when Irene visits Apollo in a hospital after he gets in a car crash, he asks her the same question ("Who are you ?") when she fakes her amnesia. Irene assumes he's joking until he asks his father and his friends "Who are you guys ?", showing that he isn't lying and he actually has amnesia.
- Mood Whiplash: Near the end, Apollo drives to Irene's workplace while he and she have a phone conversation, confessing their love for each other, but then the heartwarming moment stops when Apollo gets into a car crash while Irene is waiting for him, getting worried.
- Runaway Groom: During the wedding flashback, Irene walks down the aisle, ready to marry Apollo, but Apollo gets so nervous that he runs away in front of her. This is why Irene lies about having amnesia: to get back at him for leaving her at the altar, while he tries to make amends with her.
