Them Against the World
is a fanfic written by Angelxoxo8.
It's a retelling of the Netflix series, The Last Kids on Earth with an added oc, Maylin Yoon.
In a world full of monsters and zombies, Jack Sullivan survives six weeks in the apocalypse. He's then joined by Quint, Dirk, June, and former popular girl May as they learn to survive the world and the evil that lingers.
- The Ace: Maylin has many skills, she's the most acrobatic, is on Quint's level with machines, and before the apocalypse, she was cheer captin, student body president, and an undefeated mathlete. But in June and May Gloom, we learn that the reason for this was because of her extremely strick, overbearing, protectionist father's Training from Hell, trying to mold her into the perfect daughter, thus making her a Broken Ace.
- Abusive Parents: May's father to a tee.
- Affectionate Nickname: Her friends call Maylin "May" for short. Before that, she was know, at least by Jack and Quint, as "Maylin Yoon, the coolest girl in school".
- The Baby of the Bunch: Downplayed, but Maylin is the youngest of the group at the age of thirteen.
- Bully Hunter: In the flashback in Book 1 Part 1, she stops Dirk from beating up Jack.
- Excellent Judge of Character: Maylin was the only one of the group who didn't trust Thrall, and proven right. And unlike June, she also felt that Bardell was a good guy. After he saves them in ''Dawn of Rezzoch, she gives her friends an I Told You So.
- Do Not Call Me "Paul": In Book 1 Part 1, Maylin tells Jack and Quint to stop referring her as "Maylin Yoon, the coolest girl in school".
- Let Me at Him!: Just like he was after Thrall's betrayal hurt Jack, Quint is absolutely furious after learning what May's dad put her through.
- Love Interest: Maylin is this to Quint, and over the course of the fic, she grows to like him too.
- Missing Mom: Maylin's mother disappeared when the apocalypse began. Like June, she hopes to reunite with her.
- Right for the Wrong Reasons: Maylin did not trust Thrall and would roll her eyes or snark at him fanboying over him. She's ultimately proven right about Thrall but regrets it after seeing how devastated Jack is.
- The Rival: To June Del Toro but they move past it.
- The Runaway: Maylin ran away from home after an argument with her dad ended with him smacking her.
