Fanfic / The Remaining Sense Of Pain

Go To

Human beings are fundamentally twisted. Taylor realised such... and even if she did not trigger, she still gained some manner of power from the locker. Relying on drugs to numb the consequences of her hospitalisation, who is she to refuse this revealed truth of human nature when it helps her feel alive?

TheRemainingSenseOfPain" is a fanfic by StargazingSeraph. It is a crossover between The Garden of Sinners and Worm''.

During the Locker Incident, instead of triggering with the power to control arthropods, Taylor gains an entirely different power, not one granted by a Shard, but one linked to an inherent aspect of humanity.

The Remaining Sense Of Pain contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Superpower Change: It's an altpower Taylor Fic, where instead of controlling arthropods through the Queen Administrator shard, she instead awakens the Mystic Eyes of Distortion used by Asagami Fujino.
  • Adaptational Heroism: For as bloodthirsty as she becomes, here Taylor never actually becomes a supervillain and warlord like she was in canon, and she never harms any heroes or innocents.
  • Adaptational Villainy: While Taylor is still dedicated to fighting supervillains and using her powers for heroics, she's far less restrained when compared to her canon-self, as she's very kill-happy and almost completely blase regarding murdering villains. Furthermore, she also crosses one of the lines she never violated in the original, intentionally using her powers to harm and murder her bullies.
  • Anti-Hero: Of the Unscrupulous variety, as while her intentions are definitely on the good side, she's extremely vicious in how she deals with her enemies and villains, having little to no compunctions about resorting to murder. That and she can be quite vindictive as seen by how she deals with Emma and Sophia.
  • Death by Adaptation: Happens to quite a few characters
    • Both Lisa and Rachel are killed by Taylor during one of her bus-rides/killing tours, whereas in canon, both survived through the events of both Worm and Ward.
    • Menja, Rune, and Stormtiger are also all killed by Taylor during the same killing spree.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: Several characters end up meeting very different ends compared to canon.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: Zig-zagged, as one the one hand, the PRT are firmly opposed to her, to the point of issuing a Kill-Order against "Torsion" as they call her, on the other hand, the common civilians of Brockton Bay end up siding with her for the most part, after her killing sprees result in Brockton Bay becoming one of the safest and most crime and villain-free cities in the country.
  • Invincible Hero: Taylor becomes this once she fully masters the use of her Mystic Eyes and gains access to Clairvoyance, as her ability to instantly kill from hundreds of meters away without even needing eye contact, combined with her giving off zero indication or early warning as to what she's doing make her impossible to even detect, let alone defeat.
  • Terror Hero: Taylor firmly falls into this territory, as her tendency to murder villains and criminals in incredibly brutal and gory fashions, combined with her ability to do so without giving any indications or clues regarding her involvement, make her one of the most terrifying capes in existence, with practically everyone scared shitless of her.
