A felony of pearls provides examples of:
- Honor Among Thieves: The criminal pearls agree to bust Pearl out of jail once they realize that she took the fall for them, the issue is that Pearl doesn't want to break more laws by doing so.
- Meaningful Name:
- The criminal pearls are all named after crimes. Justified, as they probably named themselves after coming to Earth.
- Their leader CEO, is a leader named CEO.
- Mistaken Identity: Pearl is arrested because the police mistook her for a member of a gang of criminal pearls.
- O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Steven realizes that Pearl is pissed off when she insults another pearl.
- Stumbled Into the Plot: Pearl wasn't involved in the criminal pearls' activities until they let her take the fall for their crimes.
- Sunk Cost Fallacy: CEO tells Pearl that because Pearl has broken laws before, committing more shouldn't be an issue.
- Theme Naming: Most of the criminal pearls, with the exception of their leader, CEO, are named after crimes, which is lampshaded in the story itself. For example, Embezzlement and Theft.
