Universal Monsters: Creature From The Black Lagoon Lives is a four-issue miniseries by writers Dan Watters and Ram V, with art by Matthew Roberts. Part of a collaboration between Skybound Comics and Universal Studios in producing comics based on the Universal Horror cannon.

In this sequel to the the classic 1954 film, journalist Kate Marsden hunts a notorious serial killer in the heart of the Amazon. Hot on the trail of this madman, she soon encounters an unexpected new threat — the Creature from the Black Lagoon!

This work contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Location Change: Gill-Man, and the Black Lagoon, now seems to be located in Peru rather than the Brazilian Amazon from the first movie.
  • Alternate Continuity: This book appears to ignore the events of the two sequels to the first film, with Gill-Man seemingly being alive and well in the 21st century
  • Intrepid Reporter: Kate Marsden, the protagonist of the series, seems to be a bit of deconstruction of the trope. Her going off looking for a notorious killer, Darwin Collier, led to her nearly getting murdered herself and now months later she finds herself in the Amazon (despite protests from editor) trying to track him down to get revenge.
  • The Sleepless: Kate has seemingly gone months with very little sleep, reliving her attempted murder via drowning every time she dozes off.
  • Terrifying Rescuer: The first issue ends with Kate being saved from drowning by Gill-Man, after she had been startled to run away when she first saw him.
