The Rani Amrita
The Rani (aka queen) of Bhaktipur, a small kingdom in northern Bhodistan. Moirin travels to meet her in Naamah's Curse.
Tropes applying to Amrita:
- Glamorous Single Mother: Her husband was killed by the Falconer's men before her son was born & she has raised him as a single mother since.
- The High Queen: She's ruled Bhaktipur as regent since the death of her husband.
- In-Series Nickname: The Lady of Rats.
- Proper Lady: Very much so, but she's not afraid to go into dangerous situations when the need arises.
- Reasonable Authority Figure: She immediately agrees to hear Moirin out after hearing that she's come to Bhaktipur seeking her aid.
- Universally Beloved Leader: She is well-loved by her people. Even when some of them are unhappy about her proposed changes to the caste system, she is able to bring them around to her perspective.
Ravindra
Ravindra
Son of the Rani Amrita & her late husband. He is a serious & thoughtful boy who will rule Bhaktipur once he comes of age.
Tropes applying to Ravindra:
- Adorably Precocious Child: He is a serious boy who acts much older than his 10 years.
- Hero Worship: Develops some hero worship toward Bao.
- Smart People Play Chess: Ravindra frequently plays chess with his mother & shows himself to have quite a sound grasp of strategy for a ten year old.
Jagrati
Jagrati
The wife of Tarik Khaga who is the real ruler of Kurugiri. She stole Kamadeva's diamond from its temple & uses it to hold others in thrall.
Tropes applying to Jagrati:
- Create Your Own Villain: Jagrati was repeatedly raped & abused in her youth due to her untouchable status. This treatment is the source of her rage & led her to steal Kamadeva's diamond to take control of her fate.
- In-Series Nickname: The Spider Queen.
- Lady of Black Magic: She wields Kamadeva's diamond, which causes intense desire, like a weapon. This makes her a bigger threat than all the assassins of Kurugiri.
- More Deadly Than the Male: As evidenced by her nickname, Jagrati is a much bigger threat than her husband.
Tarik Khaga
Tarik Khaga
The Falconer of Kurugiri & husband to Jagrati.
Tropes applying to the Falconer:
- In-Series Nickname: The Falconer.
- The Hashshashin: Kurugiri bears a certain resemblance to the hashshasin, being a mountain fortress full of assassins who use drugs & are fanatically devoted to their leaders. The Falconer fills the role of the Old Man in the Mountain along with Jagrati.
- Parental Incest: The women in his harem feared giving birth to daughters who might be molested by him.
- Professional Killer: He is the head of the assassins of Kurugiri.
