The Empire

A northern nation known for political intrigue, military might and its storied history, it is all that remains of a empire that once spanned most of the continent.

    General
  • Historical Gender Flip: For unclear reasons (there does not appear to be any social stigma against female mages) the Empire teaches their people that the legendary mage Flamme was a man, and has statues to that effect. Frieren dismisses it as a product of the amount of time that has passed (thinking a similar thing regarding how inaccurate a Himmel statue they made is), but outside the Empire most people who know of Flamme know she was a woman.
  • Vestigial Empire: Downplayed as it is still one of the most powerful factions in the setting, but when it comes to territory The Empire is a shadow of what it was a thousand years ago, when it controlled most of the continent. The war with the Demon King over centuries split what became the modern Empire off from the rest of humanity, but they endured and even had some success at keeping the demon forces at bay.

The Magic Special Forces

An imperial unit made up of some of the strongest mages in The Empire. They are in charge of counterinsurgency and exist as a very visible deterrent to dissidence, as opposed to the various more secretive government forces in The Empire. They are specialized in combating other mages.
    General

The Shadow Warriors

A secret group of Warriors tasked with the (usually covert) assassination of people deemed a threat to the Empire.
    General
  • Mage Killer: The shadow warriors are skilled at taking down people that the Empire considers a threat and that includes mages by striking them down before they have a chance to retaliate. Even a mage on Frieren skill level knows not to take them lightly.
