  • When evacuating a wounded Lee out of town, the group initially thinks to find a way to sneak him out. With none of the options looking realistic due to his wounded leg, they instead take the opposite route — turning up in something so indestructible that it doesn't matter if they're caught. They proceed to move him using a front-end loader, and even manage to take out a few soldiers when they attempt pursuit.
  • The group's first major guerrilla action. Noticing that the local bridge is seeing a lot of convoy activity, they decide to blow it up. They let a herd of cattle loose on the bridge's guards to sow confusion, drive a petrol tanker underneath the bridge, and then detonate the tanker. Although Corrie is shot during the escape, the attack still puts a serious thorn in the enemy's side.
  • Kevin volunteering to take Corrie to the hospital in the first book, even though it might mean death. It says more about his love for her than anything else, and it's so much more moving in the book than the movie.
  • Later on, the scheme the others hatch to let Kevin escape captivity. Namely, faking his death by dropping a makeshift dummy wearing his clothes down an old well, along with a dead animal to provide some fumes that will discourage investigation. All of this is planned and carried out in the field, with little time to prepare or resources to work with.
  • Upon learning that important officers are staying in the wealthier part of town, the group causes a gas explosion that takes out several key figures. Fi's house was among those targeted, but she had undergone enough Character Development by that point to not only allow the plan but actively assist in carrying it out.
  • The destruction of Cobbler's Bay. Homer and Ellie pull off a stunt that would have won trained soldiers the Victoria Cross... and that's not even the climax of the book.
  • The destruction of the Wirrawee Airbase. Again, the kids manage to do something that professional special forces hadn't been able to do. And it all starts with an accident.
