Awesome / Smokey and the Bandit

Go To

  • "Snowman" gets stopped by a motorcycle cop (played by an uncredited Sonny Shroyer) as they're getting close to the finish line. Bandit races the wrong way up the highway and spins a 180 while Frog whistles to get the cop's attention just before she flips him off, so the cop will let Cledus go before he can find the illegal beer.
  • Throughout the first movie, Bandit's job has been to keep the local cops distracted so they won't notice Cledus "the Snowman" as he rushes to get their cargo delivered on time. Near the end of the movie, however, after the cops are closing in on the Bandit, he offers to sacrifice himself so Snow can get away:
Cledus: "Whoa, negatory, negatory! What are you, crazy or somethin'? We come this far, ain't we? When we say we gonna do a job, we do a job!"
Bandit: "It's me they're after. They don't even know Cledus Snow exists."
Cledus: "Oh, they don't? Well, I'll tell you what we gonna do." (laughs) "We just gonna introduce them to the boy! So move over, good buddy, because the Snowman is comin' through! (short pause) Hold on to your ass, Fred."
(Snowman proceeds to show what happens when an 18-wheeler semi meets a police barricade)
  • When an Alabama State Trooper tries to throw his weight around against Buford, Sheriff Justice puts him in his place. Hard. The patrolman is cowed at once.
  • While stopping for some gas and food, Snowman is assaulted by a group of bikers who claim his dog Fred bit one of them (which he almost certainly didn't), and since they outnumber him about 15 to 1, he gets his ass kicked. His response? He limps back to his truck, gets in, and proceeds to flatten their motorcycles under the 18-wheeler, completely wrecking them as he drives off.
    • Garage attendant : "Far out"
  • The scene where (with the help of some trucker friends) Bandit evades some cops through clever timing rather than his usual speed and recklessness, getting the help of some truckers and then changing lanes at just the right moment so the cops don't see it. Then he carefully keeps the trucks in between him and the cops' line of sight until the police car has sped far ahead of the truckers without realizing Bandit is behind them. Adding to the awesomeness, the franchise's Awesome Music Signature Song "Eastbound and Down" plays triumphantly throughout the scene.
  • The asian trucker who smashes into the open door of Scheriff Buford's car, ruining it further.
    Trucker: BANZAI!!
  • The ending of the first movie, as Snowman and the Bandit arrives at the race track to the cheers of the crowd, with 10 minutes left on the clock.
Little Enos: Daddy, you're about to have your evening ruined for ya!
  • The highlight of Smokey and the Bandit Part II: Cars vs. Trucks.
  • In Part 3, a pick-up truck full of drunken Klansmen crashes and gets covered in hot tar and chicken feathers.
  • The first film was released in theaters again after Burt Reynolds' death.
