• When Miyo is kidnapped by Wicked Stepmother Kanoko and evil stepsister Kaya, they torture her to make her break off her engagement with Kiyoka, whom Kaya wants to marry sole because the mere sight of Miyo having something better than her infuriates her. But rather than give in, Miyo, who previously despaired at her situation improving, refuses to give in because of her love of Kiyoka, something her despicable family can never take away from her. She holds out long enough Kiyoka to save the day and storm the Saimori home to free her.
• Speaking of which, Kiyoka fights Minoru Tatsuishi (and to a lesser extent, Miyo's awful father Shinichi) to save Miyo from her captivity. Minoru, father to Miyo's kind-hearted friend Koji, is a power-hungry noble obsessed with making sure Miyo marries Koji to ensure her bloodline creates strong descendants, and to that extent, aids Miyo's evil family in kidnapping her (even though Koji is disgusted by his father's actions). In a magic battle, Kiyoka wipes the floor with Minoru and even sets the home where Miyo suffers ablaze, wiping out her terrible past.
  • He then saves Miyo, injured to the point of unconsciousness, from her stepmother's/stepsister's torture. When Miyo's evil stepsister Kaya denies any fault and claims Kiyoka should only marry a "perfect" girl like her rather than "lowly" Miyo, Kiyoka, utterly enraged behind his soft voice, tells her to shut her mouth and says he would never date a woman as arrogant and entitled as her even if the very heavens themselves commanded so. This shuts Kaya up to the point that she doesn't try to stop Kiyoka as he brings Miyo away from her terrible family and to a new, happier life.
