Awesome / Fargo: Season Three

Go To

The Law of Vacant Places

  • The entirety of the air conditioner sequence. From the fact that it's done in real time to the camera movement of AC as it falls on top of Maurice, and Nikki's precise calculations as she's timing everything.
  • Gloria clearing the rooms of Ennis Stussy's house, including the entrancing Tuvan throat singing on the soundtrack and the brief fade to Maurice with steam gushing from his gaping mouth, all give the scene of tragedy a haunting, otherworldly quality.

The Principle of Restricted Choice

The Law of Non-Contradiction

The Narrow Escape Problem

The House of Special Purpose

The Lord of No Mercy

  • Gloria's first time meeting Varga. In stark contrast to Emmit and Sy, she refuses to buy any of his bullshit and simply leaves determined that there's something fishy going on with him that she'll get to the bottom of.

The Law of Inevitability

  • After spending a whole episode trying to get into the cell block to talk to Nikki, Gloria finally succeeds just in time for a Big Damn Heroes against the assassin Varga sent to kill her.
  • The out of nowhere appearance of Mr. Wrench, finally tying the season in to the previous ones and accompanied by his and Numbers' Leitmotif.

Who Rules the Land of Denial?

  • Nikki and Mr. Wrench going full Action Survivor as Varga's men hunt them through the woods, refusing to give up even through their exhaustion and injuries, plus their difficulty in communicating. Nikki ultimately gets revenge on Golem, who tried to kill her in the holding cell, giving him as much of a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown as she's able before they both use their handcuff chain to slice his head off. Then Wrench pulls the chain apart with his bare hands after it had been weakened by a few ax blows. During the brawl, Wrench even manages to cut off Yuri's ear by throwing a woodcutter's axe into the trees where Yuri was shooting at him with a crossbow.
  • Paul Marrane's reappearance and interaction with Nikki in the bowling alley is incredibly heartwarming. Then after she leaves, he firmly establishes his Creepy Good credentials by taking revenge on the psychotic Yuri for murdering his own girlfriend. Yuri's expression changes to an Oh, Crap!, and he sees a vision of his deceased girlfriend and hundreds of Jews killed by the Cossacks staring at him in judgement. Months later it's revealed Yuri disappeared without a trace.

Aporia

  • Nikki and Mr. Wrench flawlessly carjacking Varga's mobile command center, stealing files and hard-drives in the process with nothing more than a paperweight and a single spray of gunfire.
    • In Nikki's subsequent meeting with Varga, she and Mr. Wrench scope out the most likely position Meemo will be placed to keep a sniper rifle on her, letting them both walk away while Varga has been so outplayed that his civilized veneer finally cracks and he seethes to Nikki that he really dislikes her.
  • The soap dispenser and faucet finally turning on for Gloria. It Makes Sense in Context.
  • Varga's evil plan to derail the police investigation into the Stussy murders is to deploy a fall guy. It works so well that Gloria is hopeless to do anything about it and has to throw out Emmitt's confession.

Somebody to Love

  • Nikki and Wrench set an ambush for Varga inside of a spooky, dilapidated indoor storage unit building. Wrench himself manages to singlehandedly kill several armed mercenaries as well as Meemo. Although the battle happens off screen, it can be heard and the camera focuses on normally-smug Varga who is hiding in an elevator with an Oh, Crap! expression on his face. Meanwhile, Nikki is waiting in the lobby, having killed the drivers of Varga's motorcade. Varga manages to narrowly escape via the elevator shaft. But Nikki and Wrench obtain Varga's briefcase containing two million dollars.
