Awesome / A Rabbit Among Wolves

Go To

  • Jaune's raid on a corrupt garment factory, which ends up bringing down a corrupt management, and making Jaune popular again.
  • Jaune ordering the arrest of an SDC camp where the manager was a corrupt serial rapist who forced herself on countless Faunus men.
  • Sun wiping the floor with a pack of White Fang posers, all with a smile on his face.
  • Sun managing to essentially blackmail the White Fang into recruiting him by threatening to sic Beacon on them.
  • Jaune pushing his crew celebrate their Faunus features during the fashion show.
  • Jaune and Coco teaming up to take down the racist fashion designers who were driving spikes into the ears of a donkey Faunus on their payroll - as well as the former sending Bane to model practically nude with the SDC brands and other scars on full display. Even Adam admitted he was impressed with that stunt.
    • The way Jaune responds to the two crooks trying to use the law to keep him from searching their dressing room is pretty epic.
Jaune: "Verily. It is a shame that Vivian Von Volkvan goes by another name. (He removes his mask, prompting an Oh, Crap! from Rosemary and Thyme). And neither of those identities cares much for legality."
    • Cut to Yuma and Tukson immediately restraining them.
  • After the success of the fashion show, Jaune realizes that he has to be slightly more aggressive if he wants to calm down the extremist factions. So what does he do? Here's the step by step process:
    • First, he has his faction go after three targets at the same time: a policeman with connections to Roman Torchwick, a business executive responsible for horrible work conditions for Faunus, and a judge who got his nephew off easy after he ran over a Faunus couple. In an Offscreen Moment of Awesome, these attacks go perfectly.
    • Then, he has Lisa place a backdoor in the electronics at the Vytal welcoming ceremony, allowing him and Ilia to hijack the ceremony while Lisa catches everything on tape.
    • In this speech, Jaune manages to not only successfully incriminate everyone his forces captured, but he also manages to word his speech in such a way that it calms down the violent factions while still vocally washing his hands of them. By the end of the speech, Ozpin notes that it sounds like the crowd may well be on his side.
    • And Ozpin's response? He manages to keep calm, call Jaune's bluff, and invites him to the introduction ceremony in two weeks as his own personal guest, backing Jaune into a corner and forcing him to agree to show his face.
  • Jaune, having to go directly against Ironwood and his Atlesian Knights, proves himself to be a master of Confusion Fu tactics. First, he and Ilia run to a car park to hide while Trifa and Yuma look for a sewer entrance to escape. When the Knights arrive, they set off every car alarm in the area, and the headlights going off allows them to ambush some Knights and forces Ironwood to switch off of night vision. The noise and flashing lights creates too much input lag for Ironwood to compensate, and from there they simply get in a car and run down every Knight in sight.
    • It finally ends when Ironwood sees a car being driven straight off the roof of the car park, slamming into the ground and breaking. One of the Atlesian soldiers on the ground moves in to arrest Jaune... only Jaune is long gone, with the driver in the car being a broken Atlesian Knight with his foot forced onto the gas pedal, meaning the White Fang is long gone.
  • In chapter 30, Jaune actually manages to win a straight fight against Neopolitan through sheer quick-thinking, putting her through an absolutely brutal Humiliation Conga that ends with her humiliated, murderous with rage, and locked inside of a dumpster. Coeur even noted that this was the first time in any of his works that Jaune managed to beat Neo, and it happened in the one in which Jaune isn't a fighter at all.
  • In Chapter 32, Jaune gets to speak at the Vytal Festival. His initial attempt at a speech quickly loses the crowd's interest, seemingly dooming him to failure. The sheer apathy of the people causes Jaune to finally lose his temper, resulting in a blistering rant towards the public regarding their indifference to the plight of the Faunus. He makes such good points that even Ruby, who opposes him for being on the wrong side of the law, feels the need to ruminate on whether she's doing the right thing.
  • Sienna is unapologetic about being a violent terrorist, yet still puts Yang in her place by spelling out to her just how many atrocities the Faunus have endured over the years. She also goads Yang into admitting that they're no different; both ladies would resort to violence to protect those they cherish.
  • Chapter 55:
    • Lisa and her studio are being ordered by the Council not to broadcast news that puts the White Fang in a favorable light and puts the Council in a bad light. What do they do? They keep broadcasting, with Lisa not even flinching when someone tries to shut down the broadcast.
    • That broadcast also deserves some explanation: first, the Fang confronted a group of Mistralian criminals attempting to smuggle weapons and Dust into Vale, both enhancing their image and putting the people who don't like the Fang in a Morton's Fork - to discover they very much prefer an irritating peacemonger than terrorists, at the same time weakening the Council's position by saving the city from a threat that would have caught them with their pants down. Second, they take down another corrupt corporation, revealing their abuses and cruel practices. And finally, they reveal that a close associate of the Vale mayor has been flagrantly breaking and bending several laws, and each time someone looks too close, he throws an aide or assistant to the wolves to avoid any blame himself.
    • Jaune, who's been locked up following a very-nearly successful assassination, is dragged before a Council-appointed lawyer and offered the chance to be released after "just" ten years of imprisonment in exchange for throwing the White Fang under the bus, and the threat of having his sentence extended to up to twenty-five if he refuses. For a moment, he's almost tempted, thinking on what he personally stands to lose, but the sheer arrogance of the lawyer and thinking on all he's seen and done, Adam's encouragement not to give in, and most importantly, what everybody else stands to lose, convinces him to rebuff the offer.
    • Chapter 56 leads into Jaune being dragged through what initially appears to be a Kangaroo Court. His lawyer does next to nothing to defend him as all of his previous targets rant away at how he ruined their lives and livelihoods. How does he deal with the issue? Dismisses his lawyer, knowing that by the laws of Vale he's already screwed, and instead brings in every victim of those people that the system abjectly failed and ignored. Solely for the purpose of turning public opinion against the Council of Vale and its system in its entirety.
  • In Chapter 58, Roman is so disgusted with Cinder's plan, he covertly sneaks Jaune a knife to help him escape.
  • Chapter 60:
    • Jaune finally gets to use the mecha and intimidates one of Cinder's goons into surrendering.
    • When the stadium falls into panic and disorder, Ruby immediately takes control of the situation by blowing a whistle and ordering everyone to calm down.
    • When the Council orders the Ace Ops to try and arrest the White Fang while they're trying to defeat Cinder, the Ace Ops revolt against the orders, knowing that working with the Fang is the right decision.
