to:

* OvershadowedByControversy: After If discussions about ''Omens'' are not on the topic of either its breathtaking visuals or hit-and-miss gameplay (or both), then it'll most likely begin with the issue of it being a ''for-profit'' fan game (where Ouroboros Studios had initially locked the game behind a Sandbox/{{Patreon}} subscription), and how it could possibly put the whole fan game community at risk of being [[FanWorkBan cracked down upon by SEGA]] after years of them being lenient on ''Sonic''-related fan projects. Things only grew worse when a [[https://docs.google.com/document/d/1mXC2FHMieDdt3giLxmPNz92-Ghips1EOCwsB1LRGudc/preview?pru=AAABgriQ2gY*6RZ9VgYrlTZR3khNrzeCEQ# document surrounding the game]] was completed, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGvMv6sWAoM&t more information]] released detailing toxic working environments, acts of plagiarism, allegations of pedophilia, and general bad behavior by the game's developers. Furthermore, the developers began adding to the already existing controversies surrounding ''Omens'', such as the developer finishing became open about how they made the game purely out of spite towards critics, Eggman's voice actor breaking down while playing it on for Creator/SonicTeam's missteps with the franchise rather than out of love and passion for it, and attempted to detail their side of the story via a livestream because [[https://docs.google.com/document/d/1iuFZHT9swE2cHzQROHSu0q_NJnEHocCp_g3zFsL_og0/ Google doc]]. Few were swayed, Ouroboros Studios' goodwill with the fangame community was destroyed almost immediately, and ''Omens'' is now seen as an example of how hard it was, hiding beta versions behind Patreon paywalls, the below mentioned {{Squick}} involving Maria, and much more, further tainting its reputation.''not'' to make a fan project.

* HilariousInHindsight: The game's whole setup of explaining why the Chaos Emeralds and Master Emerald stopped being central to the plot after ''VideoGame/SonicUnleashed'' and ending with [[spoiler:the destruction of both the Chaos Emeralds and Master Emerald]] comes off as this, as the main series game ''VideoGame/SonicFrontiers'' has [[OutdatedByCanon debunked this ending]], with the Chaos Emeralds being central to its plot, and an animated short focusing on the Master Emerald. It also doesn't account for the DS version of ''VideoGame/SonicColors'', which [[spoiler:had the Chaos Emeralds for beating special stages, and Super Sonic for its TrueFinalBoss]].

When the Exiled manages to steal them in an ambush, Eggman manages to escape while rescuing Sonic, [[EnemyMine teaming up with him]] to stop Exiled so that he can TakeOverTheWorld instead.
