As per ROCEJ thread - we don't trope "fan" nicknames that are derogatory or hateful

** During Season 7, Kandy Ho was given the nickname Kandy Who by several online forums due to her low amount of screen time.

** After Season 11, many fans have taken to calling Silky Nutmeg Ganache "Salty" (Nutmeg Ganache) instead, due to how often she would butt heads with Yvie, and how she seemed incapable of [[CantTakeCriticism taking any negative feedback]].
** More of a "Detractor Nickname", but Season 12's Sherry Pie often has her name censored, like "S*** P**", to reflect her UnPerson status. [Redacted] Pie is also a popular alternative (and easier to say in casual conversation).
*** "Shitty Pie" is also used by those who don't want to sugarcoat their feelings regarding her behavior. When Soju was also accused of predatory sexual behavior, some people started to refer to her as "Shit-ju" instead.

** ''Drag Race Italia'' host Priscilla had received the derogatory nickname of "Brick" on Reddit owing to her rough makeup and unflattering style. Upon her noticeable glow-up in Season 3, many fans warmed up to her and started calling her "Mother Clay" instead.

added a "Surprisingly Improved Sequel" entry regarding Down Under 2.

Added DiffLines:

* SurprisinglyImprovedSequel: Down Under 1 is widely regarded as one of the lowest points of the franchise and a clear example that the Drag Race empire was getting too big. It was plagued by pre-production issues that saw it move in the eleventh hour from Australia to film in a very small studio in New Zealand (changing it from Drag Race Australia to Drag Race Down Under in the process, as they couldn't film in New Zealand without casting Kiwi queens), the extremely controversial casting of two queens with racist backgrounds (one of whom had become famous for her culturally-appropriative routines) and the CreatorsPet favouritism shown to both of them (as well as Art Simone, who was eliminated very early and then brought back without explanation). The season was also very frustrating to watch, as the judging consistently cast aside the queens widely seen as the fans' favorites (the three Kiwi queens) in order to prop up said CreatorsPet contestants, to the point where with the intense fan backlash to most of the queens who made it to the finale, production really only had one option to crown without a ''serious'' backlash. The second season was an enormous turnaround quality-wise, with higher IMDB ratings across the board and, in a coincidental parallel, a queen who had performed a culturally-appropriative act in the past but actually fully owned up to it on the show. Unfortunately, for much of the fanbase, the damage had already been done, and the second and third seasons were largely ignored by the wider fanbase, despite still being hosted by RuPaul and Michelle.

** It's hard to find a fan who considers ''The Switch Drag Race'', the first international spin-off which aired in Chile for two seasons, part of the "main" ''Drag Race'' franchise, due to its radically different format compared to the flagship series and all following international versions (for starters, there is much more emphasis on live singing and celebrity impersonation rather than lip-sync, fashion and comedy).

*** The rumor mill has been turning in regard to the queen's opinion on the matter on All-Stars 8. Word through the grapevine was Jaymes Mansfield was being treated at the producer's favorite and avoiding harsh critiques, like in the first challenge where she was saved from the bottom for not being able to dance, but Darienne Lake was in the bottom for the exact same critiques. In fact, it was said for the Joan Crawford musical the queens all conspired together to vote Jaymes off, even though it was obvious the producers wanted them to vote off Kahanna instead.

** Season 3 of ''Drag Race España'' was largely seen as a let-down compared to the acclaimed first two seasons, with production apparently pushing certain queens to CreatorsPet level (possibly in an attempt to recreate the TheAce track record of Carmen Farala and Sharonne) and unfairly shafting others. It has been said that the narrative producers for seasons 1 and 2 left Spain for Mexico to help develop that country's spin-off, tentatively explaining the drop in quality.

The Scrappy and Rescued From The Scrappy heap can only apply to events in the series - not what the contestant's done in real life or other works. They must also apply to single characters, not a whole city.

** Probably the most successful rescued scrappy has to be Alyssa Edwards. During Season 5 many fans were sick to death of her feud with with Coco, her not-funny shade, and lack of acting skills ... but ''after'' her season between her VoiceClipSong and her hilarious Youtube show on [=WOWPresents=] "Alyssa's Secret" she is now one of the most popular and referenced Drag Queens of all time on the show.
** While Phi Phi O'Hara is one of the most infamous "villains" in Drag Race history, since the show she has gained a substantial online following due to her [[JustForFun/OneOfUs cosplay and nerd culture references]] in her drag. This never made it onto the show because contestants are forbidden from referencing copyrighted characters, but she is quite ProudToBeAGeek.
** Serena [=ChaCha=], despite coming off as elitist and borderline racist during Season 5, actually has seemed to learn from her mistakes and better herself and her art of drag. She's actually pretty well accepted in the drag community now, with many queens (even from the same season) admitting while she was an unbearably annoying bitch during the show, she took the criticism afterwards and matured considerably. This reflected in her more cheerful attitude on All Stars 6, for what little time she lasted.
** Gia Gunn was TheScrappy of Season 6 (one of them at least), but due to her [[UnusualEuphemism odd choice of words]] being turned into a MemeticMutation thanks in part to Alaska, a lot of fans have started to warm up to her. Similarly, Kimora Blac became beloved after her appearance outside of the show, such as Wait What, where she got to shine with Gia for instance.

** Laganja Estranja has become more warmly embraced by fans who've seen her be considerably more coolheaded in appearances after her season; her ''Hey Qween!'' interview especially. In an amusing footnote to her infamous AttentionWhore behavior in season 6, Laganja had a good enough sense of humor about it to do a 2019 tour with fellow Scrappy, Gia Gunn, as "Team Too Much." Considered to have fully pulled herself off the heap with her incredible lip sync against Trinity on ''All Stars 6''.

However, she rehabilitated herself in the eyes of many fans after a sobering Reunion in which she admitted her mistakes, and even more after the show with her incessant political activism, in the streets and online, for the 2020 US presidential election.

** A broader example, but historically speaking, San Francisco queens did poorly on the show: Season 5's Honey Mahogany was 1/2 of the first-ever double sashay, and Season 12's Rock M. Sakura was an early-out. The lack of representation and early eliminations resulted in many local performers reluctant to audition, with some even claiming that Ru has something against the city, implicitly ignoring the city's historic drag scene and eclectic performers. By getting the second-highest ranking in her season, Season 14's Lady Camden has broken the "curse" and [[https://datebook.sfchronicle.com/movies-tv/after-lady-camden-could-san-franciscos-drag-race-curse-be-finally-over inspired fellow San Franciscan performers to get on]].

In fact, during episode 3's ''Untucked,'' Ra'Jah even makes a point to make peace with Scarlet Envy, one of the targets of her abrasiveness. It may be one of the most radical turnarounds in demeanor a ''Drag Race'' contestant has ''ever'' made, going from a bonafide villain in season 11 to one of the kindest and most approachable queens of All Stars 6, the latter of which she ended as a respected fan favorite, and made her hugely anticipated for her third run on ''Canada Vs The World.''

Acceptable Targets (and its derivatives) is now an index.

* AcceptableEthnicTargets: Asian and Hispanic queens in particular are the target of racial jokes regarding their culture or accents. For example, Yara Sofia was criticized numerous times for her thick Puerto Rican accent.
** How black queens are treated both on the show and in the world of drag in general has been a hotly discussed topic for years. The Vixen in Season 10 laid out many of the most common complaints out during episodes of ''Untucked''; clubs don't hire too many black queens because they don't want to advertise being "too black", and all too often if a black queen doesn't immediately back down to a white queen, the black queen will be attacked and called an angry black queen. Even black queens who have objectively done well on the show have been called out for 'playing the game', either being too nice such as with Latrice (the moment she was not "nice" on All Stars the fans quickly turned on her) or by playing too much to white audiences, which has been a critique received by Monet X Change and Bob the Drag Queen.
** NWordPrivileges: Many racial jokes will come from a queen of that race. Manila Luzon stretched it a bit by making jokes about mainland East Asians despite being Filipino, causing some debate among her fellow competitors over whether she actually ''had'' the proverbial "N"-word privilege. Korean queen Kim Chi of Season 8 also uses many controversial Asian stereotypes for humor, but in her case she admits to having a [[RefugeInAudacity fucked-up sense of humor]].
** Some challenges have a bit of racial humor baked in, encouraging the queens to play up racist stereotypes; Season 2's "Disco Extra Greasy Shortening" challenge had the queens acting like DeepSouth hillbillies, while in the "[=RuCo=]'s Empire" challenge of season 8 as well as the "Why it gotta be Black Panther" challenge of season 11, the girls were coached on how to act like a stereotypical black girl from the ghetto. The former challenge (along with that episode's cowboy/western-themed runway) caused vocal concern for the Texas-based Mystique, who didn't want to insult her fans.
* AcceptableHardLuckTargets: Queens with messed up teeth are treated with absolutely no sympathy on the show, from their fellows queens to the fans of the show. Thing is, as it gets pointed out by Season 4 queen Willam (during her podcast ''Race Chasers''), nobody ''wants'' to have crooked teeth, but the career doesn't lend itself to excess income or dental insurance (things have improved, but in the early days of ''Drag Race'', drag performing was typically not a viable full-time employment option--even in those few cases, what club is going to offer insurance to a freelance entertainer?). While reading is meant to be in good fun, Willam points out making fun of someone for how God made them is low-hanging fruit and just isn't that funny.
* AcceptableTargets:
** Overweight queens are given no slack for their weight, and are shot down if they dare to argue that their size makes costuming and walking in heels more difficult. They're also expected to roll with it if someone makes a fat joke. There have certainly been well-respected big girls on the show, but queens like Latrice are the exception to the rule, and queens who do complain about their size being a sore subject (such as Kim Chi or Alexis Michelle) are often told they have thin skin and to "just get over it".
** Older queens (generally, if they are around or older than 40) are quite often mocked due to their age. Season 7's Tempest Du Jour was almost immediately singled out for her age in the first episode, but none probably got so much flack as Season 9's Charlie Hides. Due to Charlie's age and an overly physical challenge she cracked a rib and ended up giving up, partially due to the pain and exhaustion, but the rest of the contestants treat her just awful during the reunion, ganging up on her that her age was not an excuse ... in spite of clearly needing medical attention that she was afraid to ask for on the show due to the consequence of elimination.
** In early seasons, transgender people were considered a fair target. A few queens were accused of being trans women as opposed to simply wearing drag, with the implication that this was somehow "cheating", and it was general consensus that bioqueens (women performing female drag) weren't "real" drag queens. Season 2 and 3 were probably the worst in this regard, and Willam has revealed as late as Season 5 producers used to ask LA queens to out potential contestants on if they were trans and transitioning. Since then, many queens have come out as trans after their seasons (Carmen Carerra, Sonique, Gia Gunn, etc.), and Season 9 saw the first openly MTF queen in Peppermint, as well as the first FTM queen in Season 13 with Gottmik.

In 2022, Cubb also had a pretty significant acting role as Gregor in ''Film/TheSchoolForGoodAndEvil'', which many ''Drag Race'' fans were surprised and impressed by. (Not every day a former ''Drag Race'' contestant acts in a high-budget Netflix movie, especially one that's entirely unrelated to drag.)

** In Season 5, Alaska was criticized by [=RuPaul=], the judges, and the other queens for dressing like a man in a competition to stage a children's show parody. However, if the comments on Logo's website are any indication, most viewers loved her "Buffalo Bill" persona and felt that the "drag only" critique was against the spirit of the show, as [=RuPaul=] herself [[{{Hypocrisy}} often says]] "We're born naked and the rest is drag."

* AluminumChristmasTrees: Claims that the modern day "British Accent" actually came about ''after'' the United States seceded from the UK, and that prior to that the people of Great Britain sounded like Americans do today. While this sounds like ArtisticLicenseHistory, there actually is some truth behind this claim as the English developed nonrhotic pronunciations (the modern "British" accent) some time in the 19th century.

** Rita Baga seemed to be pushed very hard in the inaugural season of ''Canada's Drag Race.'' She showed up as a highly-touted Quebec legend, and immediately won the first episode's design challenge, to the shock of many fans who overwhelmingly preferred Jimbo's or Anastarzia Anaquway's runway looks. This dissonance between the judges and the fandom immediately set a trend for Rita, who went on to have three challenge wins and the UndyingLoyalty of the judges, but yet somehow never truly connected with a big chunk of the fandom, who were left wondering what all the hype was over Rita and kept flocking to AlwaysSecondBest CloudCuckoolander Jimbo, instead. This was partly because of Rita's low-key personality and unerring professionalism that bordered on TheStoic, and she seemed less personable compared to the other contestants. By the time Rita sent Jimbo home in the penultimate episode, the bewilderment for Rita had turned to severe backlash, to the point that she had to defend herself on Instagram. Of course, this isn't universal - Rita may have struggled with a lot of the English-speaking audience but still has a hugely-devoted Québécois following.

It's up for debate (a heated debate) on whether Rita still qualified for this on ''Canada Vs The World.''
