* NeedsMoreLove: The movie is getting ''some'' recognition, but many feel that it should be up there with ''Anime/PrincessMononoke'', in the upper echelon of Creator/HayaoMiyazaki's films. Then again, another part of the Miyazaki/Ghibli fans feel that the movie is overrated, [[BrokenBase so yeah]].
** The manga however, tends to be a more straight example. It ''is'' published in English (with a very good translation to boot), but regularly falls out of print for years at a time.

* TearJerker: Nausicaa flying straight into a Pejite flying machine, standing on her glider, her arms outstretched always makes this troper choke up.

** Nearly everything involving [[spoiler:the Holy Crypt of Shuwa]]. The dark, organic imagery and the [[spoiler:Heart of the Crypt itself]] are utterly ''wrong'' and {{alien|Geometries}}...

*** Note that in the original manga, Kushana appears to be 100% whole (she definitely isn't missing an arm, at any rate).

* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: The movie and manga versions of Kushana and Kurotowa are drastically different. Kurotowa in particular gets the short end of the stick in the movie, but at least Kushana [[FreudianExcuse remains sympathetic]] (if more than a little [[KnightTemplar extreme]].)
** Nausicaä herself is much colder and dire than the movie, fitting for the more nihilistic tone.

** The movie itself, and how it compares to its SpiritualSuccessor, ''PrincessMononoke''.

* {{Anvilicious}}: Of the GreenAesop variety, mostly for the film though. It gets a bit more complicated, if not somewhat subverted towards the end of the manga. [[spoiler:Specifically, the question of whether or not the MasterComputer's plan to artificially restore Earth's old ecology is just as bad as the callous environmental destruction the preceeded it, since it would mean the deaths of the countless biotechnological creatures (including "Humans") who have made a life for themselves in the new world]].

* BrokenBase: Despite being uncut and more accurate, Disney's dub of Nausicaa still has its share of harsh detractors, with some declaring that it still fails to do justice to the original Japanese. You'll have to decide for yourself if you like it or not.
* JerkassWoobie: possibly a number of characters, but perhaps most notably Kushana. Introduced in the film version as a seemingly steriotypical evil queen ("Nice valley. Think I'll keep it."), her status as an apparent CardCarryingVillain is quickly subverted. This apparently was deliberate on the part of the writers: Miyazaki describes Nausicaa and Kushana as "two sides of the same coin", largely differing in that Kushana has "deep, physical wounds".

While she is definitely a messiah with some aspect of the divine about her, she still has some human flaws and is often plagued by self-doubt. Conversely, while her divinity is a source of comfort and salvation to those around her, the otherworldly forces she is connected to can be intimidating, inscrutable and at worst full-eldritch terrifying & incomprehensible.
