This is actually toned down from how dark and depressing the mod was in earlier incarnations. For example, in the earlier builds of Hyrule Total War, Zelda was an outright religious fanatic and Hyrule was a crusader state bent on converting the world to Goddess Worship at sword-point.

** The Gorons. Basic Goron infantry can compete with most factions' elite heavy infantry, ''and'' they have movement and charge ability equivalent to heavy cavalry! It only gets meaner as the higher-tier units come into play. Ruby Guards and Fire Warriors can kill hundreds of enemy soldiers by themselves and even shrug off heavy cavalry charges. Later versions substantially nerfed the Gorons and made them much less overwhelming, although their Bomb-Throwers can still almost single-handedly see off many sieges.
** Ordona Province combines the best cavalry corps in the game with a huge economic boost to their farms to give them high population growth, which lets them outstrip everyone in the amount of cash they can throw around, letting them field huge armies of the aforementioned badass cavalry. This was significantly nerfed in later versions of the game.
** The Zora, once they start fielding artillery and Bigocto Battle Platforms. Mage Cannons can easily kill hundreds of regular soldiers, and Bigocto Battle Platforms are essentially war elephants with ''flamethrowers'' mounted on them. A single Bigocto Battle Platform can single-handedly fight off an ''entire siege'', and if one gets close to a line of regular infantry, the resulting bombardment will often wipe out half the unit. Zora Floodmasters fire high-damage explosive projectiles that travel instantaneously, stun infantry, and have an effective range equal to most siege weapons. A line of Floodmasters can decimate entire armies before they even get close enough to return fire. As with most of the other overpowering units, these were... well, the Zora were also nerfed into something more balanced.
** Early versions of the Darknuts were essentially a one-trick pony. That trick being hilariously-powerful heavy infantry that basically ignored anything short of artillery fire and who slowly walked forward and butchered everything in their path, and were close to impossible to actually kill in melee. Version 4.5 nerfed them and rebalanced the faction to give them more variety.
** The Order of the Wizzrobe have access to a plethora of powerful ranged units, but special mention goes to the Hylian Mages, who fire fast-moving, long-range bolts of energy that incinerate most grunt troops in one hit and overpenetrate to hit multiple men at once. Best of all, these are your most basic ranged units, that can be produced in any city that you own. And ''yes'', they were nerfed as well.
** Azrily's special ability — Bloody Display — may as well be renamed the "I Win" Button. It instantly forces all enemy units on the map to [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere break and rout]]. {{All of them}}. With this ability, Azrily can conquer entire empires on her own, as only [[TheDreaded the absolute bravest units in the game can resist it]]. [[RunningGag This was, of course, eventually nerfed and Azrily was removed from the campaign.]]
** Hyrule can become one of these, thanks to a strong starting economy and good initial settlements. Their units aren't overpowered, but Hyrule is able to build a monster of an economy pretty quickly if they're able to avoid being besieged on all sides early on. While other factions bring up their superweapons and elite units, Hyrule shows up with a huge army of regular soldiers. And there's another right behind it. [[ZergRush And another.]] ''[[WeHaveReserves And another....]]'' They also have the Repeating Ballista, a rapid-fire ballista unit specialized in sniping enemy artillery or giant units. Unsurprisingly... well, actually, Hyrule hasn't been nerfed as of version 4.5.
** Laranyu, surprisingly, also thanks to their economy. Much like Hyrule, they get a powerful starting economy that only gets stronger as they expand, and with cheap and plentiful units, a pretty balanced roster that's not too different from Hyrule's, as well as access to several areas that let them hire large numbers of mercenaries... well, they're not going to run out of soldiers to hurl at an enemy any time soon.
** Labrynna starts way to the east on the map, in a very secure area a safe distance from other factions, giving them plenty of time to build up... and when they build up, they bring things like gunpowder troops, {{steampunk}} {{powered armor}}, and ''tanks''. Once Labrynna gets built up, they can almost ''literally'' start steamrolling other factions.
