** The Titans are so scary, they almost look like they were coming out of the screen.
** The Hydra: it's monstrous, no pun intended, and what makes it scarier is that it's like the one monster that gave Hercules trouble - even more than the titans, it was the only thing that came close to killing him.
** Meg is seen dying in agony and then shown clearly as dead as Disney can get away with on a G rating.
** Hercules' rescue of her soul showing his rapid aging gives both kids and adults nightmares.
** As if these two aforementioned examples weren't enough, the Fates attempting to cut [[DeathsHourglass both threads of life]] with scissors is enough to make viewers young and old cringe and hold their breaths in fright of what would happen. [[spoiler:The first time, they are successful in cutting Meg's thread; the second, they become unsuccessful at the moment Herc's thread glows up as the scissors start touching it on his rescue of her spirit.]]

** FridgeHorror: She's probably been forced into similar situations to help Hades make deals before...

* CrowningMomentOfSadness: Even when you ''know'' that Meg's going to get better, you still cry a little bit at the way Hercules is sobbing over her pale body and the way he's cradling her corpse in his arms.
* CrowningMusicOfAwesome: Let's just cut to the chase and say ''everything.'' Alan Menken is basically channeling everything he did in LittleShopOfHorrors.

* LargeHam: Hades. Being a Disney villain, not unexpected at all.

* CrowningMomentOfFunny: Crow's one man show, playing the host and all of the participants of ''The Match Game.''

* FetishFuel: Is this troper the only one who thinks the fact that Athena, the third-most-beautifull goddess after Hera & Aphrodite (YMMV on that of course), ending up chained SEVERAL times is very hot?

* TrueNeutral: The gods. Although Zeus leans more towards the BigGood and Hades the BigBad, the writers still kept in the underlying neutrality and self-interested nature of all Grecian gods. Going by the source material, you would probably have many arguing that the roles assigned in this movie should have been reversed (well, at the very least, Hades only cared [[OrderVersusChaos about the universe revolving]] and didn't indulge in the kind of things that made mortal life a living hell. Afterwards however...)
** Arguably, The Fates as well.

* AdaptationDecay[=/=]AdaptationDistillation : Many elements of the story were '''''radically''''' different in the source material. For better or worse? YourMileageMayVary.
** Keep in mind Disney [[PragmaticAdaptation had to adapt the stories]] of Ancient Greece, which is infused with sodomy, incest, murder, cannibalism and rape, [[WhatDoYouMeanItsNotForKids to being kid-friendly]].
*** You could also TakeAThirdOption and say that, while it has more in common with {{Superman}} and {{Rocky}} than the actual myths, it stands on its own merits quite nicely. The film certainly was received much more warmly than Disney/{{Pocahontas}} or Disney/TheHunchbackOfNotreDame among critics/

*** Note that Hercules himself actually flew into insane rages and murdered innocents several times. Including his wife and kids. The 12 Labors of Hercules? Basically a glorified community service project.
**** Hera used her godly powers on Heracles,driving him into madness so that he would be guilty and attempt to do the 10 labors
** And Hera was not the loving mother as depicted in the movies, in the original stories she outright hated him and he was not her biological son, he was born of a mortal woman.
** HandWaved by Phil with his comment about "not to believe all the stories".
