* AwardSnub: ''Deathly Hallows: Part 2'' was not only the highest grossing movie of the year, but the highest grossing instalment of what was then the highest grossing franchise, and one of the highest grossing films of all time, in addition to being one of the most critically acclaimed films of the year. One would expect it to have at least garnered a few token nominations at the Academy Awards, especially since the Academy had made the decision several years earlier to expand the Best Picture field to ten films. But no, just three nominations in the technical department which it lost in all of them (the worst being losing Best Makeup to ''Film/TheIronLady''!) It is also suspicious that before the nomination process began, the Academy again amended its rules that ''up to'' 10 films could be nominated for Best Picture, if they gathered a certain percentage of votes. Coincidentally, only nine films were nominated, which prompted much outrage from both fans and film critics.[[note]]If you were wondering, these were Warner Bros. submissions to the Academy: Best Picture, Best Director - Creator/DavidYates, Best Adapted Screenplay - Steven Kloves, Best Actor - Creator/DanielRadcliffe and Creator/RupertGrint, Best Actress - Creator/EmmaWatson, Best Supporting Actor - Creator/RalphFiennes and Creator/AlanRickman, Best Supporting Actress - Creator/HelenaBonhamCarter and Creator/MaggieSmith.[[/note]] The most talked about snub would be the always perfect Creator/AlanRickman not getting a supporting actor nominations despite his performance being raved as his greatest turn in the role of Snape.

Doesn't really make sense. 'The finale of the final movie is lackluster because they ran out of money' is a very strange comment to make, there's no proof behind it, the scenario is very unlikely, and it isn't a proper justification anyway.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: The movie almost completely omits the final battle in the Great Hall; all we see are some blurry bangs and flashes when Neville wakes up and Molly's very brief duel with Bellatrix. This may be a case of RealLifeWritesThePlot, since the first half of the battle was full of SugarWiki/VisualEffectsOfAwesome. They just may not have had much more money to throw into [=CGI=].

Idiot Ball is not YMMV. Hindsight only applies to moments after the work it's under releases.

** Remember Molly's boggart from ''Order of the Phoenix''? [[spoiler:It comes true with Fred's death at the end of the book.]] Even worse, you might remember that [[spoiler: the boggart took the form of ''both'' Fred and George]]...meaning that [[spoiler: even in her worst nightmares, Molly couldn't picture Fred and George being separated by death]]. Many fans wish Creator/JKRowling couldn't have imagined such a scenario either.
** Early on, Harry says that parents shouldn't leave their children unless they have to, after refusing to allow Remus to come with them on their search, because Tonks is pregnant with their child. [[spoiler: Remus and Tonks are killed in the Battle of Hogwarts, leaving their son an orphan, meaning that Remus did have to leave his son.]]

** In light of TheReveal regarding Snape's true allegiances and Dumbledore's health during the events of ''Half Blood Prince'', suddenly Dumbledore's last words being "Severus...please..." take on a whole new context that essentially flips ''everything'' we know on its head.

* IdiotBall: James running out to hold Voldemort off when he comes to Godric's Hollow to kill Harry, without a wand. Lily also appears not to have one, or doesn't make any attempt to flee the house with Harry.

** A few fans were annoyed that Harry and Snape never have a direct confrontation until [[spoiler: Snape is already dying from Nagini's attack]]. The film adds a scene where Harry calls Snape out in front of the whole school which, while HarsherInHindsight after TheReveal, is certainly more cathartic.

** Given how little of its workings has been revealed and how it seems to break the lore of magic solely by existing, it has been entertained that the Resurrection Stone [[spoiler:doesn't really summon dead people and only creates living, talking memories of them, not unlike the diary version of Tom Riddle, who come solely from the mind of the user and everything he knows, remembers and/or imagines about them. Harry's parents seem to imply this when they say in their ghostly state that they are always with Harry because they are "part of himself". (The same has been proposed about Priori Incantatem, with its ghostly apparitions being only living echoes of the people hit by the spells and not true ghosts.)]]

But no, just three nominations in the technical department which it lost in all of them (the worst being losing Best Makeup to ''Film/TheIronLady''!) It is also suspicious that before the nomination process began, the Academy again ammended its rules that ''up to'' 10 films could be nominated for Best Picture, if they gathered a certain percentage of votes. Coincidentally, only nine films were nominated, which prompted much outrage from both fans and film critics.[[note]]If you were wondering, these were Warner Bros. submissions to the Academy: Best Picture, Best Director - Creator/DavidYates, Best Adapted Screenplay - Steven Kloves, Best Actor - Creator/DanielRadcliffe and Creator/RupertGrint, Best Actress - Creator/EmmaWatson, Best Supporting Actor - Creator/RalphFiennes and Creator/AlanRickman, Best Supporting Actress - Creator/HelenaBonhamCarter and Creator/MaggieSmith.[[/note]]

Deleting misuse of Memetic Mutation. Famous lines are not memes by themselves. Rewriting other examples to conform with the instructions in the trope page.

** [[spoiler:"NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH!!!!"]], which just jarred with her kind and maternal (if somewhat snappy) personality.
** "How dare you stand where he stood!?" from Part 2 of the films, for when [[ReplacementScrappy a character is replaced by someone far less liked.]]
** On a scale of one to Lord Voldemort, how awkward are your hugs?
** Voldemort's scream from the trailers: NYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEAAAAAAH!!!!!
** "Voldemort got [[Film/AvengersInfinityWar snapped]]" in reference to Voldemort's death in the movies, where he disintegrates as he dies, which looks similar to how many of the people snapped by Thanos died in ''Infinity War''.

Hilarious In Hindsight is about later events that make events in these films funnier than they originally were. These all misuse: The first example has nothing to do with the trope; the second one refers to events that preceded these films; the third one presents a loose connection between two works (people being Reduced To Dust is something so common in fiction that it has its own trope).

* HilariousInHindsight:
** The "NYEAH!!" scream of Voldemort that became famous thanks to the ''Part 2'' trailer was actually heard once in ''Part 1'', right after Harry's wand overpowers him in the aerial battle.
** Quite a few people have pointed out that Death in the Tale of the Three Brothers scene resembles [[Film/RevengeOfTheSith General Grievous]].
** As mentioned in MemeticMutation below, Voldemort's [[DiesDifferentlyInAdaptation death being changed to being disintegrated]] with NoBodyLeftBehind, it looks like he's being [[Film/AvengersInfinityWar snapped out of existence]] by ComicBook/{{Thanos}}.

YMMV cannot be played with. Expanding on example.

** Averted with Voldemort, whose climactic showdown with Harry takes the two on an epic battle all across the castle; this is a notable contrast to the book, in which Voldemort is defeated with much less fanfare. Played straight with Bellatrix, though, who is taken out rather easily for a dreaded HeroKiller.
** The same goes for Peter Pettigrew; one would think that the man responsible for ''selling out Harry's parents and reviving Voldemort'' would be treated to the '''much''' more brutal death he was dealt in the books. Instead he is struck down by Dobby, goes out with an inappropriately comedic "[[MajorInjuryUnderreaction Ow]]" and is not mentioned again from that point onward.

The scene comes out of nowhere, is bizarre in that Voldemort randomly displays affection despite [[OutOfCharacterMoment being supposedly unable to care about others]], and is immediately forgotten once he lets the boy go.
