Right, the natter seems to suggest that Ass Pull isn\'t a fit. On the other hand, I think that the controversy of energybending makes it qualify as Broken Base. I have moved it there and tried to present it VERY cautiously to prevent another fight. Oh, but Creators Pet can\'t applied to Katara based on the trope\'s description on the page - so if people are \"arguing\" it, they\'re wrong. Designated Villain isn\'t being invoked just because that character is sympathetic - the reader is SUPPOSED to feel sympathy for Zuko, where the trope applies to situations where a villain is unintentionally sympathetic.

* AssPull: [[spoiler:Energybending.]]
** Actually, this was foreshadowed, since Book 1, but only with objects in the backgrounds, which people don't usually notice. Even if told which episode, what moment, where, you still have to look carefully.
** Amusingly enough, it was entirely possible to guess this without any foreshadowing whatsoever... [[ViewersAreGeniuses if you knew the details of the ancient Greek system of elements]].

** Many people didn't take Aang's actions in the finale well. [[InternetBackdraft Best not go there]].

to:

** Many people didn't take Aang's actions conflict in the finale well. split fans between those who felt it came out of nowhere and those who felt it was perfectly justified given what we'd seen of Aang to that point. Then there's [[spoiler: the controversy over whether the resolution of using the previously unseen Energybending so Aang could stop Ozai without killing him]] was reasonably foreshadowed or a complete AssPull. But [[InternetBackdraft Best not go there]].the less said the better.]]

* CreatorsPet: Some have argued that Katara is this, even moreso than ever now that it's known that [[spoiler: she's outlived (possibly) ALL the other main characters and is alive as an old master in the sequel series.]]

* [[spoiler:DesignatedVillain: Arguably Zuko in The Promise comics, again. Though in this case, it's the other good guys who make him out to be a villain while the readers can clearly see that he's still just a victim of poor decision making skills.]]

* AmericansHateTingle: ''WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender'' was immensely popular in America. It did... poorly in Japan. So poorly they didn't even bother dubbing the third season. Apparently, many Japanese felt insulted at the way the Asian cultural influence in the series was portrayed (the fact that the bad guys, the Fire Nation, are partially based on Imperial Japan probably didn't help matters too much). You would think anime fans are intelligent enough to know that this is supposed to take place in a ''fantasy world that does not exist'' instead of being a direct satire on Asian history.

Move Brick Joke here.

Added DiffLines:

* BrickJoke: In "Daydreams and Nightmares", Aang has a reoccurring NotWearingPantsDream about fighting the Fire Lord only to discover he's not wearing pants, until he eventually gets over it, saying: "No, Fire Lord, it is you who is not wearing pants!" "My royal parts are showing!" In the finale, Aang and Ozai are both shirtless for most of the fight, so they are both ''only and specifically'' wearing pants.

* CharacterAlignment: Since the characters go through such incredible amounts of character development, almost all major characters change alignment over time.
** Aang: Starts out ChaoticGood, sobers up and starts to take his responsibilities more seriously, progressing through NeutralGood to become LawfulGood by season 3.
** Sokka: Starts out as a somewhat stiff and conservative LawfulGood, loosens up to NeutralGood about halfway through the first season and stays in that region for the rest of the series.
** Katara: Starts out as a more balancing NeutralGood who mediates between other group members and tries to keep the group together. Becomes more independent, assertive, and rash as the series goes on, arguably develops into ChaoticGood by season 3.
** Zuko: Starts out LawfulNeutral: He's working for an evil empire and is willing to carry out evil acts in the pursuit of his duty, but he doesn't cause destruction when he can avoid it, he is capable of empathy and self-sacrifice with his men and family members and, of course, has a strong sense of HONOURRRR!!!!. ** '''Azulon''': Considering how little is known about him and how ambiguous the scenario involving him is, alternate interpretations have cropped up about the order to kill Zuko. Some see it as a sick display of affection and loyalty for his eldest son Iroh, others saw it as a SecretTestOfCharacter that went out of hand, much like Abraham being ordered to sacrifice Isaac in TheBible. It has even been suggested that he ''never'' gave any such order--that Azula made it up in order to pick on Zuko, and Ozai went along with the lie in order to gain Ursa's cooperation. One FanFic even suggested that when Azulon said that Ozai would feel the pain of losing his son, it was because Azulon wanted Zuko to become Iroh's heir.
