** Marco's MoralEventHorizon came when he planned to perfection, and executed to completion, an operation that culminated in him killing his own mother, who was then host to Visser One. The episode showcased Marco's logic and ruthlessness taken to its extreme conclusion and showed how far he was willing to go to achieve a strategic goal.
** Tobias crossed his in [[FanonDiscontinuity Megamorphs #02]] when he condemned the Mercora race to extinction, citing IDidWhatIHadToDo in order to preserve the rise of the human race.
** Rachel's came when she threatened to kill David's parents, after which she realizes she's been deeply changed by the war.
** Similarly, Cassie's MoralEventHorizon was also brought about by the David situation, as she masterminded the plan to sentence David to a FateWorseThanDeath because it was easier than killing him.

** Jake, by contrast, flushes seventeen thousand Yeerks into space during the final battle. What makes it a MoralEventHorizon is his inner monologue beforehand, in which he totally dehumanizes Yeerks, describing them as "parasites" and "subhuman" and claiming that they brought their deaths on themselves.

** In ''The Hork-Bajir Chronicles,'' Aldrea uses a Yeerk ship to blow the shit out of a makeshift Yeerk Pool, with no time given to the morality of her actions. Of course, her family's murder just pushed her past the DespairEventHorizon, so it's a little hard to blame her.
*** Aldrea's ixcila crosses her own line when she refuses to release her hold on Cassie at the end of #34 and must be forced to do so.
** Even Erek King, the pacifist android, has his - in #26, he manipulates the Animorphs into going after the Howlers even after learning they are children, coldly citing the killers of his creators as beyond forgiveness.

Still right. The Kick The Dog page states that if a character\'s KTD moment is excessively horrible, cruel, or otherwise despicable enough to make an audience lose all sympathy for him, then he\'s crossed the Moral Event Horizon. Just because you disagree doesn\'t make it any less true - that\'s why these tropes are in Your Mileage May Vary.

Still wrong. These actions may fit under Kick The Dog or Despair Event Horizon as each and every character does not cross the line into completely irredeemably evil. They feel bad about these things they have had to do. They are not permanetely evil. Square Peg Round Trope.

However, the most disturbing thing is his philosophy that if something doesn't currently have a human form, it isn't human, and therefore it's okay to kill it. He leaves such an impact on the Animorphs that they almost don't go through with the Auxiliary Animorphs plan because of David flashbacks, and freak out when James, the leader of the Auxiliary Animorphs, chooses a lion as his battle morph (the same choice David made).

** LawfulEvil: Visser One, Visser Three, most Yeerks. Interestingly enough, most of the Andalites we see fall into this too.
** NeutralEvil: David.
** ChaoticEvil: Crayak, the Drode.
* CompleteMonster:
Visser Three's very first appearance in the very first book culminates in him going OneWingedAngel and ''[[spoiler:eating Elfangor.]]'' Not just killing him, [[spoiler:EATING HIM]]. And then following it up with a ''terrible'' [[BondOneLiner Bond One Liner]].
** [[spoiler:David]] may be worse. Visser Three at least has the excuse that, for every sick and twisted act he's pulled, he performed those acts in the course of serving his race to the best of his ability however selfishly he may have done so. This guy was more than happy to [[spoiler:degrade the people who saved his life, abandon his parents to their AndIMustScream fate, and damn his entire species to eternal enslavement for what would have ended up being only a few years of moderate comfort.]]
*** You're being a bit hard on him. Cassie observed that [[spoiler:David was blackmailing the Animorphs for the Escafil device]] in the hopes of [[spoiler:using it to ransom his father back from Visser 3.]]
*** Not really. Keep in mind his entire justification for thinking he'd killed [[spoiler:Tobias]] and genuinely trying to murder [[spoiler:Jake]] was that [[WhatMeasureIsANonHuman they weren't human because they were in animal morph]] at the time. During The Solution, everyone is genuinely worried and prepared for him to [[spoiler:start killing them all in cockroach form.]]
Liner]].

* FamilyUnfriendlyAesop: The book where they turn into cows. Sure, animals are treated horribly in meatpacking plants, but [[CarnivoreConfusion burgers are delicious]]!

* MissedMomentOfAwesome: In #23, Tobias finds out that [[spoiler:Elfangor is his father]]. He's already very close friends with [[spoiler:Elfangor's brother]]. ''Why wasn't there a scene where he [[spoiler:told Ax]]?''

to:

* MissedMomentOfAwesome: FunnyAneurysmMoment:
** In the alternate future Jake visits in #41, the only part of the New York skyline still recognizable is the World Trade Center.
** In book #37, Rachel deliberately crashes an airplane into a skyscraper. [[FunnyAneurysmMoment Oh dear.]]
** Also, in book #46, there is discussion of how America is complacent because they have no real enemies. And then Ax threatens to fly a plane over the middle of a town and detonate a nuclear device
* MagnificentBastard: Visser Three and Visser One approach this in their respective backstories, before the VillainDecay (and in Visser Three's case, insanity) set in. David and Tom both fancy themselves to be this, but are really just [[SmugSnake Smug Snakes]]. The one who probably comes the closest to this trope is, of all people ''[[TheHero Jake]]'' who really cracks out the [[XanatosGambit Xanatos Gambits]] before diving into WhatTheHellHero territory.

*** Huh...[[MyNameIsInigoMontoya that sounds familiar...]]
*** This is also in character for Visser Three. Remember, he once had the chance to take on Elfangor in tail-to-tail combat, but instead ran away with the Time Sphere. He talks a big game, but he's actually kind of a pussy.
**** It's a fairly widely accepted fact that most bullies are cowards.
* MoralEventHorizon: Due to their nature, Yeerks in the Yeerk Pool are harmless. They are also quite numerous. As a result, anytime a good guy has the chance to destroy large numbers of unhosted Yeerks, they are presented with a potential MoralEventHorizon.

** In ''The Andalite Chronicles'', Elfangor disobeys Alloran's direct order to empty the cargo hold full of frozen Yeerks into space. Later, he again refuses to blow up the cargo ship, allowing [[spoiler: Esplin the time he needs to take out and enslave Alloran.]]

* ParanoiaFuel: Thanks to their fantastic capacity for imitating their hosts, Yeerks can be anywhere, even inside the people you know intimately. Yes, you could be talking to an alien parasite who's putting on an elaborate act and doesn't mean a word he/she says while your genuine best friend/close sibling/beloved parent/ significant other is watching you be fooled, and is mentally sobbing because no one realizes they're a prisoner inside their own head, and you'd have no way of knowing. ''At all.'' The yeerks make a few rare mistakes, due to having their own agendas and personalities, but aside from a couple isolated incidents the yeerks are absolutely undectectable. Combined with the books' LiteraryAgentHypothesis setup, this makes for some very creepy MindScrew.
* TheScrappy: The Helmacrons are an entire race of Scrappy Doos.

** Intentional; Visser Three is described many times as an incompetent tactician who only wins because of his enormous advantages over the Animorphs (such as manpower and technology). In fact, [[spoiler:it's one of the reasons Tom hates him enough to betray him]].
*** Perhaps not so much intentional as lampshaded. It's possible that Applegate and Grant just realized what an idiotic brute Visser Three was coming off as and incorporated it as part of his character and story. Of course, without asking them directly, we'll never know.
* {{Wangst}}: [[FanNickname "Emohawk!"]]

* TheWoobie:
** Tobias. He starts the series out as a skinny, blond-haired loser Jake saves from bullies... and Jake is the closest thing he has to a friend, despite the fact Jake thinks he's weird. His parents are dead, his only two relatives fight over which one of them HAS to have him. He then gets trapped as a hawk by the end of the first book. He then goes on to have an epic identity crisis, start a semi-InterspeciesRomance with a girl who really wants him to drop the "interspecies" bit, realize that [[spoiler:the alien who died saving them is his father]], get captured and tortured, realize that his mother isn't dead -- she's ''[[spoiler:amnesiac and crippled]]'', and [[spoiler:watch Jake send the love of his life to certain death]]. About the only good things that happen to him are Rachel, his girlfriend, and Ax, his best friend and [[spoiler:[[LukeIAmYourFather uncle]]]]. [[spoiler:They both die.]] For a series as dark as this one, Tobias stands out for his Woobieness. \\
\\
The worst part is that he honestly feels his new situation is an improvement. To clarify: Stuck fighting an alien invasion involving thousands of conspirators with only four human kids while trapped in the body of a hawk and fighting the instincts of the hawk to retain his own humanity is a step UP for him.\\
\\
Cassie hangs a tragic [[{{Lamshaded}} lampshade]] on this in her first book as narrator. "And Tobias is never happy, period. He thinks if he's ever happy, someone will come along and take his happiness away." ''Hint: She's right. It's the author.''

** At the beginning of the series, the kids' primary objective is to save people who are held captive: there is never any talk of destroying the Yeerk Pool itself. However, when they find out about the destructive powers of Instant Maple and Ginger Oatmeal, they have no qualms about filling the pool with the stuff. Eventually, of course, destroying the pool becomes a cornerstone of their strategy, culminating in [[spoiler: Jake flushing the 17,000 Yeerks on the Pool Ship.]]

* {{Crowning Moment of Awesome}}: So far: Jara Hamee and Erek King.
** When it comes to the actual Animorphs, it's hard to choose. A few stick outs are Marco going against the group to save his father, Cassie morphing to a polar bear to teach an ignorant kid from the past a lesson, Jake falling off a sky-high tower and morphing into a falcon ''in mid-fall'' while reminding the howler falling beside him he's doomed (though he regrets this later with good reason) and Rachel's [[spoiler:final battle.]]
*** Rachel also gets Crowning Moment credit for her confrontation with Taylor: [[spoiler:"She dies, Tobias. For what she did to you, she dies."]] Tobias' response ([[spoiler:"Be Rachel, not her."]]) is a CrowningMomentOfHeartwarming.
*** Don't forget when Rachel, in bear morph, ''picks up her own severed arm and beats a Hork-Bajir with it.''
*** Marco gets some great Crowning Moment action when he, Cassie, and Jake steal Cassie's dad's pickup truck. Marco [[DrivesLikeCrazy hauls ass]] across the city and onto the highway, and eventually crashes into Rachel in elephant morph. All of this while being chased by a killer tornado hive-organism from * Saturn* , and Jake morphing into a tiger in the truckbed.
*** Loren. The future Visser Three tells her, "I ''know'' you're scared of me." After a pause, Loren demonstrates what humans do best by picking up a rock and throwing it at him, hitting the visser square in the face. Also kind of fits with CrowningMomentOfFunny.
**** "You dare propel a rock at me? I'll teach you to propel rocks at me!"
*** Marco, when he defies direct orders to not interfere in Visser One's execution.
--->''They were going to kill her. My mother!\\
I started to morph. Gorilla. It was my favourite power morph and I needed to bash some heads.\\
<What are you doing?> Tobias demanded.\\
<Helping her,> I replied. <We need information, and maybe she'll be more likely to help us if we save her life, right?>\\
<Maybe,> Ax said skeptically. <But Prince Jake said we were not to ->\\
<Blame me,> I muttered.\\
<Don't worry,> Tobias laughed. <We will.>''
*** "Only a traitor could have beaten me. I was not beaten by you, human, or by your pet Andalite there. I was undone by my trusting nature. Only another Yeerk could have beaten me, and then only by the lowest treason. I was ''not'' beaten by you. Never by you." [[spoiler:Visser One (the first Visser Three).]]
*** Ax [[TookALevelInBadass turns into quite the badass]] over the course of the series.
--->''Ax bounded out of the door and the crowd retreated, shocked, absorbing the sudden appearance of an Andalite warrior.\\
"Andalite!" somebody managed to yell.\\
<Surprise,> Ax said cheerfully. He's almost developed a sense of humour, I thought.''
*** Jake versus David. Possibly the best fight scene in the series.
--->I felt the tiger's instincts welling up within me. I had done this morph many times. I had long since learned to control the tiger's bloodthirsty, violent urges. But I didn't want to control them. Not this time.\\
Not with Tobias lying dead.\\
He was fifty feet away. His mane ruffled in the breeze. His tail swayed back and forth restlessly.\\
<You never answered me before, Jake,> David asked. <Who'd win in a fight? Lion or tiger?>\\
<Let's find out,> I snarled.
*** Also, Jake telling General Doubleday the details of the invasion, and what he needs him to do. Jake's essentially saying, "Yeah, you guys work for me now." Doubleday, who is a four-star general, is a little pissed off about this, at least before it becomes plainly clear that Jake knows what the hell he's talking about.
*** Rachel morphing into a grizzly and tunneling her way out of a Kronosaurus.

FridgeBrilliance: At first there doesn't seem to be any particular reason why Arbron picks a yellow VW Bug to convey Jake down to meet the [[spoiler: Free Taxxons]]. But then you remember that when [[spoiler: Arbron first became a Taxxon ''nothlit'', the Living Hive brought Elfangor down to him in a yellow Mustang.]] Knowing Arbron's humor, he probably enjoyed the symmetry.

AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: Cassie. Moral compass of the group who kept them from becoming monsters or insufferable bitch who was only useful for access to new morphs? Tobias: Emo with wings or TheLancer who, as he spends the first books unable to morph, is the only one able to objectively see the risks and benefits of each morph. Rachel, valiant and skilled fighter or [[AxeCrazy unhinged psychopath]] (not so much alternate, as her slow drift into BloodKnight and PTSD is canon). Alternately: Rachel: Child Soldier who suffers an inevitable mental decline and slips into BloodKnight territory, or budding Serial killer who happens to find an acceptable outlet for her talents and, if not an Animorph, would, like Taylor, have probably have volunteered to turn become a controller, in her case to get her violence fix. Marco, TheLancer, tactical and strategic genius or just a ruthless, manipulative jerk and Jake, skilled leader or just some insecure jock who made everything up as he went along and led five child solders to their inevitable War-is-Hell mental breakdown.
