''Anomalisa'' is a 2015 animated film using StopMotion, directed by Creator/CharlieKaufman and Duke Johnson. It stars Creator/DavidThewlis, Creator/JenniferJasonLeigh, and Creator/TomNoonan. It was released by Creator/{{Paramount}} Pictures and [[WesternAnimation/RickAndMorty Starburns]] [[Series/{{Community}} Industries]], and produced by Creator/DanHarmon and Creator/DinoStamatopoulos.

''Anomalisa'' is notable for being the third R-rated animated film to be nominated for an Oscar (after ''Animation/WaltzWithBashir'' and ''WesternAnimation/SouthParkBiggerLongerAndUncut''), and the first to be nominated for Best Animated Feature.

The film follows Michael Stone (Thewlis), a best-selling self-help author who's in Cincinnati for a customer service conference. We quickly see that he is a very lonely man. Most importantly, he sees and hears everyone around him as the same generic white guy (all voiced by Noonan), even his wife and son. Upon arriving in his hotel, he tries to make a connection with an old flame, whom he insults and causes to storm off. With complete tedium, he suddenly hears a unique female voice belonging to a woman named Lisa (Leigh).

* MinimalistCast: The film only has three actors. Tom Noonan has [[LoadsAndLoadsOfRoles numerous speaking parts]] though.

* TheGenericGuy: Michael sees almost everyone but Lisa as the same person.
* HollywoodPsych: Michael suffers from a rare psychological disorder called Fregoli Delusion (see MeaningfulName below).

* AluminumChristmasTrees: Michael books a smoking room at his hotel. The film takes place in 2005, and Ohio did not ban smoking indoors until 2006.

* AndThenJohnWasAZombie: [[spoiler: While eating breakfast with Lisa, Michael starts to get annoyed from her eating habits. Then she starts to suggest seeing the Cincinnati Zoo, at which point her voice begins to overlap with Tom Noonan's, until finally she's the same as everyone else.]]
