The trauma of meeting her mother's killers and the test itself [[HeroicBSOD shattered]] her, and Akira's family presented her with baby Akira to [[BabiesMakeEverythingBetter cheer her up]]. Akira met Mina again 10 years later and pledged his eternal loyalty to her to make her feel better, and the story proper starts 7 years after that, making Mina somewhere around 27 years old.
