* SimulationGame: In addition to recurring elements from past games, Kiryu's chapter allows players to take taxi missions. Unlike, say, ''VideoGame/CrazyTaxi'' style antics, players lose points for skipping lights and get points for using turn signals or appropriately answering passengers' questions. This is averted in the racing missions where all bets are off and Kiryu easily pulls off some insanely difficult feats.

Game Gourmet has been disambiguated

* GameGourmet: All of the protagonists eventually encounter [[CelebrityCameo celebrity chef Tatsuya Kawagoe]] over the course of their main stories, who gives advice on how to enjoy their restaurant food better in exchange for pointing him towards notable restaurants. This translates to having a second bar of health, as well as a variety of buffs: Strength (unarmed damage), Focus (retain some Heat after Heat Actions), and Spirit (Heat Action damage). The buffs last for as long as the protagonists's health remains over 100%, although this can only be achieved by eating at restaurants - regular consumables do nothing for the extra health.

* PowerUpFood: Upon getting lessons from the above mentioned Tatsuya, Kiryu & the gang can improve their stats as well as gain a second life bar by eating at the various restaurants, with each dish providing a different boost.

* GeniusBonus: At the start of part 2 chapter 2, Saejima is playing cards. If you're familiar with the game they're playing and paying attention to the cards, you'll notice they're playing Daifugō, known in the west as President or Asshole. Saejima wins the hand by playing four deuces, which is one of the strongest plays possible in this game (only beaten by a joker or a pair of jokers). Himura comments that he's done "a revolution with four deuces", indicating that Saejima was the Asshole and that he just won and got promoted to President. He then says that winning the hand this way is illegal in Sapporo's regional rules (a reference to this game having a myriad regional rules variants all over the world). Moreover, the way he won can be interpreted as a metaphor for Saejima's arc in ''Yakuza 4'' (a man in the lowest possible position in the hierarchy climbing up the ladder after a surprise play of four deuces, the unassuming card with the lowest number but the highest power in this game, representing the previous game's four protagonists), and Himura's comment as foreshadowing that his previous approach won't work anymore now that he's in an unfamiliar city.
