** Floccesy Ranch gives players access to Huge Power Azurill and Riolu early. Huge Power allows the Azurill family to have twice the physical attack power, while Riolu has a powerful Happiness evolution in Lucario which, with a bit of grinding, can be used as early as in [[PoisonousPerson Roxie]]'s gym to completely [[NoSell deny]] her [[StandardStatusEffects/PoisonPlagueBleeding team]].

* ReverseMole: One of the Team Plasma goons is actually an ex-Team Plasma spy for the good guys. He helps you a couple of times, letting you know where Team Plasma is or what to do.

* WorldSundering: Due to earthquakes, erosion, and human development, Unova has greatly expanded over the two years. The only parts that are gone from the last game are Route 10 because the bridge in the middle of it collapsed and the Challenger's Cave on Route 9. The entrance there has been blocked and is inaccessible.

* OneHundredPercentCompletion: Completing the Pokédex gives, for the second time[[note]]Unless you count National Pokédex, Poké Radar and all that stuff in Sinnoh-based games[[/note]], something more than just a diploma [[AWinnerIsYou (which does nothing)]]. For ''seeing'' all Pokémon in Unova Dex (barring Victini, Keldeo, Meloetta and Genesect), you gain an access to Nature Preserve, filled with Pokémon, including a [[spoiler:shiny Haxorus]]. Completing it (barring once again the four event legends) gives you a [[spoiler:Round Charm, which makes it more likely that your Pokémon will have an Egg]], while completing the entire National Pokédex (barring event legendaries) will give you a [[spoiler:Shiny Charm, which makes Shiny Pokémon over '''three''' times as likely in the wild or when breeding normally]]

* BonusBoss: Unless otherwise noted, these are all post-game.
** Cobalion, Virizion, and Terrakion are encounter out in the open instead of in their caves during the story mode, though they are still optional.
** The Pokémon World Tournament features literally ''every'' Gym Leader (except [[KickedUpstairs Koga and Iris]]) and every previous Champion (including [[PreviousPlayerCharacterCameo Red]] but excluding Iris) from the previous games. Giovanni returns in the Gym Leader tournaments while Blue is fought in the Champion one.
** In addition to being in the Pokémon World Tournament, Cynthia returns as a BonusBoss in Undella Town with another team.
** Alder can be fought once in his house in Floccesy Town using a team separate from his World Tournament one.
** Alder's grandson, Benga, can be fought at the top of [[BonusDungeon Black Tower[=/=]White Treehollow]], with a different team and reward depending on the version.
** The Striaton Gym leaders have retired from being Gym Leaders, but can still be fought as a DualBoss with you teaming up with one of the brothers to take on the other two.
** The Shadow Triad can be fought once per season in the eastern part of Icirrus City in a BossRush. You have to one in a Single Battle, the next in a Triple Battle, and a last in a Rotation Battle.
** Colress can be fought once per day in the Plasma Frigate once it parks near the P2 Laboratory.
** If you activated the OldSaveBonus feature to connect with a copy of ''Black'' or ''White'', you can fight Cheren and Bianca once each while they use their teams from said old save.
** After obtaining or defeating Kyurem in the Giant Chasm during the post-game, N can be fought near the ruins of his Castle (which is located at Victory Road). He uses one of 4 weather-themed (game mechanic weather, not actual weather) teams depending on what season it is.
** Regirock, Regice, Registeel, and Regigigas can be found in the Underground Ruins connected to Clay Tunnel.
** Latias (''White 2'') and Latios (''Black 2'') are found in the Dream Yard in the upstairs part of the first area.
** Uxie, Mespirit, and Azelf can be found specific locations in the overworld after visiting the Cave of Being.
** Heatran is found in the central chamber of Reversal Mountain after getting the Magma Stone.
** Cresselia can be encountered in the middle of Marvelous Bridge after getting the Lunar Wing from the Strange House.
** Reshiram (''White 2'') or Zekrom (''Black 2'') can be caught at Dragonspiral Tower after beating them while they are under N's command. You fight him at the ruins of his Castle after taking a short walk with him around the place, and he gives you their Stone to use for the summoning after beating him.
** Kyurem can be fought (and actually caught this time around) in his chamber at the Giant Chasm after the Reshiram[=/=]Zekrom encounter is completed.

** There are level 25 Mandibuzz/Braviary available in Route 4 as well with their hidden abilities along with them. Two Pokémon previously not obtainable until end game fully evolved just sitting in the desert for anyone to catch. They both have their Hidden Ability which is a mixed bag for Mandibuzz (her ability exchanges Defense for Speed), but Defiant turns Braviary into a monster, gaining two stages of Attack for every stat problem especially considering the AIs favor moves that lower stats.

While not obvious at first, the post-battle dialogue of each trainer hints that these women were all jilted by the man. This is further proven by the fact [[FunWithAcronyms the first initials of each trainer's name spell the word "jilt"]].

* SchrodingersPlayerCharacter: Like in ''Black and White'', the player character who is not selected appears as an [=NPC=] in the Battle Subway. You can team up with them in Mutl Battles there.

* TimeSkip: The games pick up two years after the end of ''Black and White'', the shortest of the series' three known time skips.

* [[MyFriendsAndZoidberg My Friends And Bianca]]: [[spoiler:In the Unova Gym Leaders Tournament and World Gym Leaders Tournament,]] Bianca appears in the roster for some odd reason. Koga, on the other hand, doesn't.

* DisconnectedSideArea: Due to sand blocking the doorways over the past two years, the lower floors of the Relic Castle can only be accessed via the Relic Passage's Driftveil City entrance, with only the upper floors being accessible from its old entrance in the Desert Resort.

* SequelDifficultyDrop: Compared to the prequels, these games are easier when played on the regular difficulty. Several bosses have their movesets dumbed down, and the expansions to the Unova Dex make them much easier to counter.
* SequelDifficultySpike: On the other hand, if one plays on [[IdiosyncraticDifficultyLevels Challenge Mode]], then the game actually becomes quite difficult. Every Gym Leader adds an extra Pokemon to their team, while they, the Elite Four, and the Champion all use different strategies and movesets. The AI is also improved, and the level curve becomes quite steep, making for quite a challenge.

Early on, an NPC named "Mr. Medal" gives the player a Medal Box (and one Medal to start it with); after that he'll appear in a Pokemon Center to award the player more Medals for completing various achievements, and provide hints about future medals. There are a total of 255 medals, each color-coded for various categories (battling, trading, etc.) and the decoration of which roughly reflects its difficulty.

* LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters: The expanded Unova Dex Includes 301 Pokémon, which is a little less than half of all Pokémon total (649). You encounter and are able to catch nearly all of these just during the main questline, with even more catchable postgame. On the human side, all the gym leaders and champions from the first four generations (32 leaders and 5 champions [[spoiler: [[MyFriendsAndZoidberg as well as]] [[PreviousPlayerCharacterCameo Red]]]] are battle-able in the Pokemon World Tournament).

* SuddenlyVoiced: Due to the way Pokéstar Studios works, Nate and Rosa are now the first player characters to talk!
** Unless you count [[VideoGame/PokemonRedAndBlue Red]] making comments to himself about dad liking sports games, or going on a journey like in the movie Film/StandByMe in the first game.

* KungFuProofMook: Majin is a Dark/Psychic type with Wonder Guard, leaving it immune to every kind of attack in the game. To defeat him, you're going to have to use Hail, Sandstorm, a status effect, or an ability that bypasses Wonder Guard.
