* EvilCounterpart: [[spoiler:In the timeline Titan Shang Tsung created, he has evil versions of the heroes fight on his behalf and serve him loyally. Liu Kang however [[EvilKnockoff isn't impressed with his evil alternate counterpart]], and fought [[EvilerThanThou a far more evil version]] of [[VideoGame/MortalKombat11 himself]]]].

* TheHilarityOfHats: A RunningGag throughout Kung Lao's pre-fight intros revolves around his signature [[WeaponizedHeadgear chakram hat]], which he created after being inspired during his fight with Sub-Zero in the story mode. It's clear he's very proud of it, and brags about it in all of his intros. Characters like Bi-Han and General Shao insult it or treat it as a dumb joke, while others compliment his ingenuity, or in more humorous cases, want it themselves.

** Kotal, Erron Black, and D'Vorah, who were playable in ''11'', are merely referenced through voice lines in this game.
