''Fallout 4'' changed the formula and plays more like a fast-paced loot-shooter. The PlayerCharacter is now voiced and, unlike past games, the PlayerCharacter has an established backstory and family - previous games either allowed the player to choose their age (''Fallout'' and ''Fallout 2'') or explicitly established them as a young adult (''Fallout 3''). The Karma and Reputation system were removed, the Skills system was fused with the S.P.E.C.I.A.L system and now acts as Perks and Bonuses to the latter, and role-playing was limited to agreeing or disagreeing with [=NPCs=] and your loyalty to one of four factions. The game also added the ability to build communities across the Wasteland, as well as weapons crafting and upgrading.

The game introduces multiple innovations to the series, including a [[SuddenlyVoiced fully voiced]] male or female protagonist, customizable weapons and armor, the ability to build entire wasteland communities and defenses out of scrounged parts, improved party member AI, {{Jet Pack}}s, and more.

Updated DL Cs so that they no longer sound like they're soon-to-be releases.

On February 16, 2016, the first three pieces of DLC were announced. March saw the release of ''Automatron'', bringing back [[VideoGame/{{Fallout 3}} The Mechanist]] and allowing you to build your very own custom robot companion. ''Wasteland Workshop'' was released in April, adding a wide range of settlement items to craft and allowing you to capture and tame any enemy, from the meekest human to the most ferocious Deathclaw. ''Far Harbor'' was released in May, sending you to the eponymous section of the Maine coastline, having taken a job to look for a missing woman and investigating rumors about a hidden colony of Synths.

On June 12, 2016, the second wave of DLC was announced during E3. ''Contraptions Workshop'' was released later in June, bringing a mass of new machinery such as armor and weapon forges, ammunition plants, and the ability to make Logic Gates at your settlements. The next piece of content released in July is ''Vault-Tec Workshop'', which allows players to build and manage their own Vault, Vault 88, and conduct experiments on their Vault's residents at the behest of the Overseer. August invites you to ''Nuka-World'', an amusement park themed on the Nuka-Cola brand of soda turned into a lawless city of raiders.

You lose track of time as your mind numbs. Everything goes dark, and you get the strangest sensation, as though years are passing by like seconds. For a moment, you swear things become clear again, your eyes making out the silhouettes of your spouse and your son struggling against someone... followed by a gunshot. Eventually, your pod opens and you awaken, the Vault littered with decaying skeletons and the frozen-solid remains of your neighbors... and your beloved. You clamber your way to the entrance, fighting off strange pests that have infested the metallic halls, and find yourself in the blasted ruin that was once your home.

So the page quote is never actually spoken in-game, just in a couple of E3 promo videos. Changed it to a still-relevant one from the prologue.
