As the makers of the game, ''[=NetMarble=]'', only had the rights to the manga version, as well as the Creator/{{Toei|Animation}} character of Bardock, ''Dragon Ball Online'' [[CanonDiscontinuity completely ignores the events of]] ''Anime/DragonBallGT''.

* AdaptationalBadass: In the manga and anime, humans were basically ants compared to the galaxy destroying foes in the series. Here, humans are just as powerful as Majins, and can go Super Saiyan (through a combination of latent Saiyan DNA, and a wish on Shenron).

After the shutdown, some groups of dedicated fans began making a reproduction of the missing data and setting up custom servers, essentially creating an [[UpdatedRerelease updated]] FanRemake to be titled ''Dragon Ball Online: Global'' and ''Dragon Ball Online: Revelations''. The storyline established in the game got kind of revisited in the 2015 video game ''Videogame/DragonBallXenoverse''.
