* AuthorsSavingThrow: Attempted twice in succession. For ''Maximum Tune 5'', both the international and Japanese versions of the game were released simultaneously so that overseas players wouldn't have to wait, [[https://wanganmaxi-official.com/wanganmaxi5/en/miraiken/003.html as stated in a developer blog]]. However, this wasn't well-liked by overseas players due to the international versions having less content and using ''Maximum Tune 4'' as a base rather than using the new hardware and engine for the Japanese version. [[https://wanganmaxi-official.com//wanganmaxi5dx/en/miraiken/001.php In response]], ''Maximum Tune 5 DX'' was released with the same content across all versions to prevent such an issue again, going back to the tradeoff of the non-Japanese versions taking longer to be released.

*** North America and Mainland China versions of ''5DX+'' had both NSXes (NA1 and NC1) being replaced by an Acura versions of these cars. *** There actually is a small bit of truth to this. While dress-up parts certainly won't affect the vehicle's horsepower or handling rating, certain aero parts sets can increase the vehicle's width, which, in turn, can make it somewhat more difficult to weave through traffic or take very tight corners. But what's truly bizarre is that the neon tube kits on certain cars (such as the 1st gen Mazda Roadster) are incorrectly placed on the vehicle's 3D model, and will actually '''increase the vehicle's length'''. The reason this occurs is that neon tube kits are considered physical objects by the game, and on a small handful of cars, they are placed slightly ahead of the front bumper, rather than directly underneath.

* FanNickname:
** Whether a car is undefeated in Story Mode or not is referred to as "unshaded" (undefeated) or "shaded" (lost at least once). This is an [[TheArtifact artifact]] from the days of magnetic cards: a car that has not lost in Story Mode has hollow (unshaded) stage completed marks printed on its card, while a car that has lost at least once has filled (shaded) marks; Banapassport cards do not get marked by the machine (since they only have to be near the machine when logging in or purchasing as card straight from the game cabinet, and Banapassport cards are read-only anyway with all player data stored on network servers) but the terms are still widely-used.
** The sharp left turn on C1 Inward that forks off from the stretch of road shared with New Belt Line Clockwise[[note]]Known in real life as Edobashi Junction, but Western players generally don't use the location names that aren't mentioned ingame[[/note]] is known as the "suicide left", due to being one of the hardest turns in the entire game. The term originated in a [[https://www.gamefaqs.com/arcade/927606-wangan-midnight-maximum-tune-2/faqs/37272 guide]] on [=GameFAQs=] written by DKW.
** [[ComebackMechanic Handicap]] is referred to as "Boost" despite no official material referring to it as such; this is a carry-over from ''VideoGame/InitialDArcadeStage'' which does officially use the term.
** "Fishing" is the term given to the act of challenging a player with a partially-tuned or stock car (usually a casual player who doesn't have a card) [[CurbStompBattle with a fully-tuned vehicle]]. Like "Boost", this is also a carry-over from ''Initial D Arcade Stage'', where the term is instead used to refer to challenging players and taking then to courses that the challenging player knows their opponent is terrible at.
** Due to its reputation as a [[TierInducedScrappy/HighTiers High-Tier Scrappy]], the Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec II, known amongst car fans as the [=R34=] after its chassis code, is referred to ''Maximum Tune'' players as the "No-Skill GT-R".
** "Zero stop" is the name given to slamming into an object, usually a tollbooth, head-on (often due to an opponent [[CarFu ramming the victim into said object]]) and coming from (usually) 300+ km/h to a complete stop as a result.

Thanks to a little hacking, some players were able to make them playable, and thanks to the "discarded card" system that allows players to make partially-tuned clones of their cards, almost any player in the world was able to get their hands on one. All traces of them were removed completely starting from the international version of MT 3.
