** Ashley Clements is Gwen because she's a 5'4" (taller than Esther, shorter than Keith) conventionally attractive [[HeroesWantRedheads redhead]], whose claim to fame is playing a somewhat self-involved [[SocialMediaBeforeReason social media influencer]] in ''WebVideo/TheLizzieBennetDiaries'', and who's very familiar with playing AlphaBitch and RichBitch characters (who are very unlike herself) like Charlotte Brontë in ''WebVideo/PoeParty'' or Princess Ambrosia in ''[[https://youtu.be/yNUUFYHjnIo Muzzled]]''.

* TalkingToHimself: Brian Rosenthal gets an ''epic'' scene of this at the end of the play, where we get to see the hotel staff interacting with each other outside of the Solve-It Squad's company for the first time. This culminates with Ricky and Beth having a BigDamnKiss involving Brian pulling off his wig and holding it in front of his face to look like he's kissing a second person.

* ActingForTwo: Brian Rosenthal has the same "Everyone Else" role that Creator/JoeyRichter did in ''Theatre/TheTrailToOregon'', playing all of the {{NPC}}s in the cast with nothing more than a WigDressAccent quick-change. (With one exception: Creator/LaurenLopez plays the role of Chief O'Brien's secretary in the FBI headquarters scene.) This gets taken up to eleven when the staff of the hotel have a climactic dramatic confrontation with each other ''without the Solve-It Squad present'', just Brian rapid-fire switching costume pieces and accents in order to carry on a one-man scene.

* DuelingWorks: By an eerie coincidence, this show came out in the same year as Edgar Cantero's ''Literature/MeddlingKids'', a novel with almost exactly the same premise -- a DarkerAndEdgier DysfunctionJunction version of the Scooby Gang [[KidHeroAllGrownUp all grown up]] and trying to [[PuttingTheBandBackTogether come back together as a team]] to put to rest the demons from the final case that [[BreakingTheFellowship broke them up years ago]]. It even has specific parallels like having the Velma character become an AddledAddict, having one of them become a wealthy celebrity and FormerChildStar (Gwen/Daphne in this show, Peter/Fred in the book), and having one of them be [[PosthumousCharacter dead]] -- although since ''Meddling Kids'' is a much more grounded, PlayedStraight story it downplays the [[FunnyAnimal talking dog]] aspect of the story and has the death be TheLeader Peter/Fred by OD.

* {{Corpsing}}: Ashley Clements can't look at Creator/JoeyRichter doing "the sandwich trick" without corpsing, which is why Gwen spends this scene filming Scrags on her phone and not looking at him directly. Joey and Gabe made a game of trying to do this to each other during the show, which is why on one night of the LA run, when Keith suddenly takes Gwen's side in the argument about whether to stay at the hotel -- which typically had Joey angrily averting his gaze -- he {{improv}}ised an added line, "Hey! Look at me!", with the intensity of his gaze successfully breaking him.

* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Creator/JoeyRichter describes the show as originally having ''five'' main characters, with the protagonist being the Solve-It Squad's UnknownRival who hated them and was envious of their friendship and fame for his whole childhood, eventually growing up to become a heroic ByTheBookCop FBI agent who is then ironically forced to [[PuttingTheBandBackTogether reunite the Solve-It Squad and help them overcome their issues]] in order to stop the SerialKiller who initially broke them up. This plot had to be stripped down and simplified a great deal when the Tin Can Bros looked at the budget they realistically had for this show, which led to them deciding the FBI agent had to [[CompositeCharacter be one of the Solve-It Squad themselves]]; they decided the Shaggy analogue becoming the straitlaced cop made for the funniest ShockingSwerve.

* UsefulNotes/TheBechdelTest: Creator/JoeyRichter has expressed regret that this show doesn't pass it, even though there are only four major characters, two of whom are women. It's even set up that it will happen -- with Gwen and Esther sharing a hotel room -- only for the show to run out of time before they actually get a scene alone together.

* MeanCharacterNiceActor: Everyone in the show, obviously, since they're playing a bunch of very mean characters. But it especially bears pointing out that Ashley Clements openly despises Hollywood prima donnas like Gwen (and compared Gwen to Creator/GwynethPaltrow, having been extremely critical of her newsletter ''Goop'' selling AllNaturalSnakeOil), and took the opportunity in a TCB livestream to strongly argue that actors and celebrities are ''not'' more important than anyone else and in fact have ''much less'' important jobs than most other people's.
** Along the same lines, Gabe Greenspan is a buff guy who works out a lot, but says he personally has a very hard time getting along with other gym rats, especially ones who, like Keith, seem to have nothing that interests them but sports. He also said that he finds Keith's unshakable unearned confidence fascinating and fun to play because it's a quality he very much lacks.
** Creator/LaurenLopez has actually said she sees a lot of herself in Esther's cynical DeadpanSnarker attitude, and in fact dressed and acted a lot like Esther when she was a teenager in TheNineties, but the main difference is in RealLife she's very UsefulNotes/StraightEdge about drugs and alcohol and never StoppedCaring about taking care of herself or the people around her the way Esther did.

** Creator/LaurenLopez was the one who proposed using "Ants Marching" by the Music/DaveMatthewsBand as the soundtrack for Esther's MorningRoutine in rehearsals. Originally the Creator/TinCanBrothers intended to replace it with an original piece of music for the final show, but decided it was such a perfect bit of AMFMCharacterization for Esther they would pay the licensing fee to use it for real.

* AccidentallyCorrectWriting: It turns out Creator/BrianRosenthal wasn't consciously aware that "Yes, a thousand times yes!" is a line associated with ''Literature/PrideAndPrejudice'' (it's what Jane Bennet says when she accepts Mr. Bingley's proposal) and didn't intentionally give it to Ashley Clements as a reference to ''WebVideo/TheLizzieBennetDiaries'', thinking of it only as an old-fashioned, {{melodrama}}tic line it would be funny to have Gwen say. Ashley, of course, ''did'' know the reference, assumed it was intentional and intentionally did an impression of Creator/RosamundPike saying it in ''Film/PrideAndPrejudice2005'', and didn't find out it wasn't on purpose until a ''Can-to-Can'' interview after the show's LA run ended.
