* WhatCouldHaveBeen: There was originally supposed to be a Battlefront 3 for the seventh generation, but it was sadly cancelled, and most of its assets were used for the 2009 game for PSP and Nintendo DS. * SequelGap: DICE's ''Battlefront'', the first official installment in the series in years (not counting spin-offs), is slated to come out in November 2015 - a ''decade'' after the release of ''Battlefront II''.

* {{Vaporware}}: ''Battlefront III'' became this, in spite of both titles in the ''Battlefront'' series being the most financially successful ''Star Wars'' games made up until that point. Early gameplay footage was revealed at E3 2014 and the game itself was released on November 17, 2015.

* DevelopmentHell: ''Battlefront III'' went through quite a bit of this, in spite of both titles in the ''Battlefront'' series being the most financially successful ''Star Wars'' games made up until that point. Free Radical's ''Battlefront III'' was a mostly finished beta, but went unreleased after the developer working on it was bought out. Then [=LucasArts=] tried making a TechDemoGame to lead into ''III''... Which got cancelled once Disney bought ''Star Wars''. [=LucasArts=] was then closed, seemingly ending the prospect of another ''Battlefront'' game. The ''Star Wars'' game rights were given to Creator/ElectronicArts, which left a lot of fans unhappy until they remembered that they own [[HopeSpringsEternal DICE]], the company that made the ''Battlefield'' games upon which the ''Battlefront'' franchise is based.
