** In the months before the initial September release, a leak on 4chan revealed many details about the games development that shows the team was even more troubled than initially expected. As detailed in the link above in TroubledProduction, the game originally had Ardyn transform into a monster form for the final battle, there were several Noctis and Luna flashbacks that they cut because they couldn't find a place for them, Regis' ghost was actually going to feature within the game rather than in just the final FMV. One detail in particular that was revealed was that there was no finalized script for the final build of the game, only a very rough script that kept changing every four months, even as the game approached its originally intended release date. The leak was found to be genuine and both [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwm6U0t6xDM the Platinum Demo]] and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUCen87lWUM the pre-patched out of bounds Insomnia areas]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CRjKAKnkSs as well as PD Altissia]] showed major changes and differences between them that lend even more credence to it.

Some observant players [[https://i.imgur.com/jcbc8Wd.jpg discovered by comparing the old and current maps]] that the developers, forced to [[DummiedOut trim down Accordo and Niflheim]] due to the CosmicDeadline and story rewrites, separated Lucis and Niflheim into two continents and Accordo was repositioned then drowned so only Altissia and a few islands were left. Doing an OOB glitch will show some roads in Niflheim that go nowhere and train tracks in Altissia that go to the water, supporting this.

Moving dummied out examples to their own pages, replacing the entry as the "would had been XV game" has been found.

* DummiedOut: Scouring the source code reveals all the things cut from the game due to the TroubledProduction experienced in its development cycle:
** There are also a lot of [[https://tcrf.net/Final_Fantasy_XV_(PlayStation_4,_Windows)/Unused_Text voiced and text lines]] unheard in the base game, the most notable one is a voiced line where King Regis refers to Noctis' mother by name.
** There was supposed to be a quest in chapter 3/4 where Cor gets captured and announced to be executed, and the party tries to rescue him before being lured into a trap.
** Ardyn, Umbra, and Luna were discovered in Debug mode to be {{Guest Star Party Member|}}s, though in Luna's case, trying to add her to the party wouldn't make her appear and will make the game softlock. Either this is a leftover when she was scripted to join the party in the [=DLCs=] before its cancelation or when she was supposed to join the party in the early stages before rewrites forced the devs to remove her.
** An unused Niflheim outpost is located in Leide, and debug mode shows it's called the Viewbliss Outpost.
** There is an unused summon called "The Wise", hinting that the developers wanted to have the Kings of Yore be summonable, but got scrapped along the way.
** Due to [[CosmicDeadline time constraints]], most of Niflheim, Tenebrae, Altissia, and Insomnia were normally inaccessible when the game first released. By going out of bounds, people discovered the dummied-out places were fully detailed and meant to be explorable even with the Regalia, albeit with many unfinished parts and roads leading to nowhere. While most of Altissia, Insomnia, and a small part of Niflheim became explorable in the [=DLCs=], the rest of Niflheim and Tenebrae [[WhatCouldHaveBeen will never see the light of day]] when the remaining [=DLCs=] supposed to happen in those places were canceled.
** Even the [=DLCs=] have some aspects that didn't make the cut:
*** There is a cut dialogue in ''Episode Ignis'' where instead of talking about vegetables in the friendly match, Noctis complains that Ignis is trying to [[SpotlightStealingSquad steal his popularity]] as seen [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezL6ItBKNkE&list=LL&index=12 here.]]
*** There is a dummied dagger in ''Episode Ignis'' that's supposed to be the reward for beating the game but didn't make it through.
*** There are many [[https://www.reddit.com/r/FFXV/comments/8qb8bl/spoilers_unuse_cut_pending_content/ unused battle lines]] in the first three [=DLCs=].
*** Examining the cut voice files in ''Episode Gladiolus'' reveals some cut story dialogue, like how Gilgamesh tied his soul to the Trial Grounds after Ardyn's first defeat to prepare future generations for Ardyn's return.
** Versus XIII and Early XV remnants:
*** Remnants of ''Versus XIII'' text files and some Stella dialogue taken from the 2013 build can still be found.
*** Sprites from the old job class system in line with the classic Final Fantasy games seen in the trailers are still embedded. Some of the accessories in the game used to be the old Job classes.
*** Noctis' Versus XIII Outfit, Regis' Versus XIII Outfit, and an unused model of an early Niflheim soldier is still in the game files, though only found in console versions. Judging from the model's quality, this was likely a remnant from the [=PS3=] era.
*** Platinum Demo and Episode Duscae text files still remain hidden in the game's code.
*** Early dossiers of Ignis, Ravus, and Ardyn with lore not in the final story are also dummied out, such as Ignis' forebearers being advisers to the royal family and Ravus' dossier indicating cutting ties with Luna, which didn't happen in Kingsglaive.

* TroubledProduction: Ooooh, boy. In 2006, Creator/SquareEnix announced ''Final Fantasy Versus XIII'', which was planned to be a [=PS3=] exclusive game. The game's development didn't really get very far in the years to come, and the title was still in the pre-production phase by 2011. News of its progress was sparse as ''Versus XIII'' consistently abstained from game exhibitions, and rumours of its cancellation began to spread. In 2013, the production team announced that the game would now be developed for the UsefulNotes/{{PS4}} and UsefulNotes/XboxOne (rather than the originally intended [=PS3=]), and was to be retitled as ''Final Fantasy XV''. A year later, it was announced that Creator/TetsuyaNomura would be stepping down as the game's director to instead direct ''Kingdom Hears III'', and would be replaced by Hajime Tabata. Tabata, citing the game's decade-long stay in DevelopmentHell, resolved to complete the project before the end of 2016, leading to a number of changes to the game's established story, characters and gameplay. The game was then set to be released on September 30, 2016, but was later delayed again to November 29, 2016. [[http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1233181&page=1 An early leak from June 2016]] indicates that the script was still undergoing significant changes only months before the game was released.

** After the release of the game, an event by Square Enix was held and [[https://imgur.com/a/CaY6Sx1 a collection of storyboards by Roberto Ferrari]] was shown. Photos of the collection were leaked onto the internet and showed several images of Stella engaging in various activities with Gentiana and Noctis, one of which had the two of them speaking by phone. Other images included a look at a possible finalized outfit for her and hints of her discovering something that made her pause. Also among these storyboards were several characters not shown within the finalized game, but had either shown up in older trailers, or had been confirmed by Ferrari beforehand, such as a look at Umbra’s human form, and a man believed to be Iedolas's son (who was eventually reincorporated into the ''Dawn of the Future'' novel). The images with Gentiana also showcased her original design that Ferrari had alluded to along with Umbra's human form, which involved a black Niflheim uniform with her left arm in white armor. Several images of the Leviathan fight also shows an increased focus on the Imperial soldiers fighting against the sea serpent as well, as well as the presumed aftermath of the fight shown in more detail, as Noctis and friends are seen in another image surrounded by citizens of Altissia.

But then Square-Enix announces that said version will also see a UsefulNotes/PlayStation4, UsefulNotes/XboxOne and UsefulNotes/NintendoSwitch release. The Switch release could also be thinly justified in that the Switch is partially a mobile device, and the Xbox One release could be justified in that it's the same UWP version as the Windows PC and Windows Phone version that was finally tweaked to also support the console. But a [=PS4=] release?

* ScrewedByTheNetwork: The announcement on November 7th, 2018 that all future DLC save for ''Episode Ardyn'', as well as the PC port of ''Comrades'' standalone, was effectively cancelled, as well as the announcement that Hajime Tabata quit Square Enix, has left a sour taste with people who were looking forward to said DLC (with the most vitriol generated over the cancellation of Lunafreya's episode). While the people on board the project promised to try and bring the intended stories, or at least the parts already done, to the audience in "some way, shape or form", the comments Square-Enix is receiving for this choice are overwhelmingly negative. These DLC ended up being reformatted into a novel, titled ''Dawn of the Future''.

* UrbanLegendOfZelda: There's a slight change to the final scene of the ending, where [[spoiler:Luna will shed a tear before laying her head down on the arm of the throne]]. However, no one is quite sure ''what'' causes it -- the photo you take with you before the final boss, how you respond to Luna in the journals during the game, or possibly even that it was in an earlier version of the game and has been patched out. This has also sparked rumors over if there are other slightly different ending scenes that could be triggered by meeting unknown requirements.
** Most of these rumors have been debunked for a long time, yet they still float around the fanbase. It's been confirmed that the tear scene is simply something that was changed in the very first patch, and so can only be seen from having an completely unpatched version of the game - no choices/dialogue options bear any sort of influence on this.

Several images of the Leviathan fight also shows an increased focus on the Imperial soldiers fighting against the sea serpent as well, as well as the presumed aftermath of the fight shown in more detail, as Noctis and friends are seen in another image surrounded by citizins of Altissia.

* DeletedRole: Due to the games' TroubledProduction, several characters were cut from the finalized story as confirmed by Roberto Ferrari, the secondary character designer. The biggest example among them being Stella Nox Fleuret, the original heroine of the game, who later was replaced by Lunafreya. The game developers have stressed that Stella and Luna are completely different characters on many occasions, though designwise Luna is a reworked version of Stella.

I'm surprised no one mentioned these at all, considering we know they are genuine, and they give a lot of additional material for this trope to work with.
