* TwentyMinutesIntoTheFuture: Compared to most ''Toys/LEGOSpace'' themes, ''Life on Mars'' is closest to modern technology. It certainly helps that it's a StealthSequel to the ''[[Toys/LEGOCity Space Port]]'' line, which appears to be set in present day.
* AcePilot: Mac is Earth's best space pilot, and Altair is one of the best pilots on Mars.
* ActionGirl: Cassiopeia is a female Martian who takes initiative in fighting the rebels.

They are commonly assumed to be male due to lacking Cassiopeia's TertiarySexualCharacteristics, and Canopus and Pollux are indirectly named after male mythological figures.

* TheEngineer: Mac is the mission's top mechanic, and Antares is the inventor of the Aero Tube Hanger.
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep:
** Assistant is only known as Assistant.

** In ''LEGO Soccer Mania'', the Martian with Antares's head is only referred to as "Guard".
* HumanoidAliens: Martians are humanoid enough, with an upright posture, two arms, and two legs. Though, discounting [[Toys/RockRaiders Rock Monsters]], the Martians were the first LEGO alien lifeforms to depart from the standard Minifigure design.

Arcturus was leader of Mars at that time, and he actually ''did'' invade Earth and was forced to retreat after being exposed to Earth germs.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Riegel is a tough ruler, but he is reasonable enough to work with the humans once he recognizes that they do not pose a threat, and he even asks for their help against the aggressive rebels.
* TheRemnant: Seems to be the case with Arcturus, who still seems bitter about the [[Radio/TheWarOfTheWorlds failed Martian invasion of Earth]], is the most distrusting of the human astronauts, and is ultimately revealed to be TheMole.
* TheRevolutionWillNotBeCivilized: The canyon Martians are rebelling against Riegel's peaceful Martian High Council and are plotting to steal all the Biodium and [[TakeOverTheWorld take over Mars]].
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: Riegel and Cassiopeia, the Martians' ruler and princess, respectively. They take an active role in stopping the rebellious canyon Martians, with Cassiopeia even going out into the field.

It's particularly egregious on [[http://www.miniland.nl/LEGOclub/lego%20mania%20magazine%20jan%20feb%202001/3.jpg this page]] of ''LEGO Mania'', where both the "Riegel" and "Rigel" spellings are used! Since "Rigel" is the name of the star, it's most likely the correct spelling, but "Riegel" is more consistently used across LEGO media.
** The former Martian leader is named Arcturus in the online story, which matches the name of the star. But in the instruction booklet for the Aero Tube Hangar, it's spelled "Arctures" instead.
** Centauri's name is spelled "Centuri" in ''LEGO Soccer Mania''.

* YouDontLookLikeYou: LEGO media has a tendency to mix up Antares and Pollux, with the former frequently using the latter's appearance in ''LEGO Mania Magazine'' and ''LEGO Adventures! Magazine'' comics. ''LEGO Soccer Mania'' adds an extra layer of confusion: "Antares" has Pollux's head and Antares's white clothes, "Guard" has Antares's head and Centauri's blue clothes, and "Centuri" has Centauri's head and Vega's orange clothes.

''LEGO Life on Mars'' was a short-lived Franchise/{{LEGO}} [[Toys/LEGOThemes theme]] from 2001, and a subtheme of Toys/LEGOSpace. Basically, a small group of human astronauts crash-landed on Mars, discovered {{Martians}}, and sat down and observed them for a while. It is unusual among LEGO Space themes for its stronger focus on exploration and discovery over combat; the human astronauts had no interest in conquering the Martians and instead preferred to observe their lives. The only conflict takes place in the online story, where the human astronauts help the friendly Martians deal with a violent rebel faction.

This was the last true LEGO Space theme for several years, until its SpiritualSuccessor ''LEGO Mars Mission'' turned up in 2007. Unrelated to the TV show ''Series/{{Life On Mars|2006}}'', though that would be awesome in its own right. Provides the Martians for ''Webcomic/IrregularWebcomic''.

* TwentyMinutesIntoTheFuture: Compared to most LEGOSpace themes, Life on Mars is closest to modern technology. It certainly helps that it's a StealthSequel to the [[Toys/LEGOCity Space Port]] line, which appears to be set in present day.

''LEGO Life on Mars'' was a short-lived Franchise/{{LEGO}} [[Toys/LEGOThemes theme]] from 2001, and a subtheme of Toys/LEGOSpace. Basically, a small group of human astronauts crash-landed on Mars, discovered Martians, and sat down and observed them for a while. It is unusual among LEGO Space themes for its stronger focus on exploration and discovery over combat, the human astronauts had no interest in conquering the martians and instead preferred to observe their lives.

This was the last true LEGO Space theme for several years, until its SpiritualSuccessor ''LEGO Mars Mission'' turned up in 2007. Unrelated to the TV show ''Series/{{Life On Mars|2006}}'', though that would be awesome in its own right. Provides the Martians for ''IrregularWebcomic''.

!!LEGO Life on Mars provides examples of:
* AcePilot: Mac.
* ActionGirl: Cassiopeia.
* AllThereInTheManual: The majority of the theme's storyline could only be found the website. The LEGO Mania magazine also provided extra information, such as revealing that Cassiopeia is Riegel's daughter.
* AllMythsAreTrue: Sort of. Remember all the panic that was caused by people who thought that a 1938 radio drama of ''Radio/TheWarOfTheWorlds'' was a true story? It ''was''. Arcturus was leader of Mars at that time, and he actually ''did'' invade Earth and was forced to retreat after being exposed to Earth germs.
* BadassPrincess: Cassiopeia.
* CombiningMecha: A more unconventional example: all sets were designed to be consistently segmented and modular, and all instruction manuals point out that the modular segments are interchangeable between sets. Also, most of the Martians' sets are mecha.
* CoolStarship: The Solar Explorer, the humans' ship.
* {{Crossover}}:
** In ''[[LEGORacers LEGO Racers 2]]'', Life on Mars crosses over with [[Toys/LEGOCity LEGO Town]], Toys/LEGOAdventurers, LEGO Arctic, and LEGO Racers.
** In the November/December 2001 issue of LEGO Mania, the Life on Mars team teams up with Franchise/LEGOAlphaTeam and the LEGOStudios crew to foil Ogel's plans to [[BrainwashedAndCrazy mind-control]] the LEGO Dinosaurs.
** LEGO Life on Mars participates in ''[[MassiveMultiplayerCrossover LEGO Soccer Mania]]'' alongside LEGO Soccer, [[Toys/LEGOCity LEGO Town]], [[Toys/LEGOCastle Knights' Kingdom]], Toys/LEGOAdventurers, LEGO Arctic, Toys/LEGOPirates, LEGO Wild West, LEGO Space Port, and VideoGame/LEGOIsland.
* EasilyThwartedAlienInvasion: As it turns out that the events of ''Radio/TheWarOfTheWorlds'' are real, Arcturus's invasion of Earth was cut short by exposure to germs.
* TheEngineer: Mac and Antares.
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep: Assistant.
* HumanoidAliens: Though, discounting [[Franchise/RockRaiders Rock Monsters]], the Martians were the first LEGO alien lifeforms to depart from the standard Minifigure design.
* HumansAreSpecial: Defied by Riegel, who seems unconvinced of the intelligence of highly-trained astronauts.
-->'''Riegel''': "So you say you are Earthlings? Are you an intelligent species?"
-->'''Mac''': "Of course we are! We built a rocket ship and came here, didn't we?"
-->'''Riegel''': "You came here, but maybe you didn't build the ship. Maybe you are just test animals. After all, some Martians believe that creatures with - ugh! - hair on their heads must be stupid, since the sun never warms their brains enough."
* HumongousMecha: Most of the Martians' vehicles are mecha, and almost all of them have some mechalike traits.
* MineralMacGuffin: Biodium.
* TheMole: Arcturus was secretly providing information to the [[TheRevolutionWillNotBeCivilized canyon Martians]].
* PlotCoupon: Cassiopeia and the astronauts search Mars for three scrolls instructing how to create synthetic Biodium.
* PoliticallyActivePrincess: Cassiopeia.
* PowerCrystal: The Martians were searching Mars for Biodium, a green type of crystal which creates a breathable atmosphere.
* TheProfessor: Doc.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Riegel.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: Riegel and Cassiopeia.
* ShoutOut: Arcturus was leader of the Martians during the 1930s. As it turns out, [[Radio/TheWarOfTheWorlds a certain radio drama in 1938 retelling the events of a Martian invasion of Earth]] was actually telling the truth.
* SliceOfLife: The LEGO sets, unburdened by the canyon Martian rebels of the [[AllThereInTheManual online]] storyline, basically depict daily Martian life.
* TheSmartGuy: Doc and Antares.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Riegel's name is frequently spelled as Reigel and Rigel. It's particularly erroneous on [[http://www.miniland.nl/LEGOclub/lego%20mania%20magazine%20jan%20feb%202001/3.jpg this page of LEGO Mania]], where both the "Riegel" and "Rigel" spellings are used!
* SpiritualSuccessor: Many see Toys/LEGOMarsMission as one to Life on Mars, especially seeing as the former is the only other line to reuse the latter's vacuum pump tube system... [[CaptainObvious oh, and yeah, because they both take place on Mars]].
* StealthSequel:
** To the 1999 "[[Toys/LEGOCity Space Port]]" sub-theme; Buzz Bailey from the Space Port line is the same character as BB from Life on Mars. The book ''Rocket Rescue'' even says that Buzz Bailey was training for [[{{Foreshadowing}} a mission to Mars]].
** ''[[VideoGame/LEGORacers LEGO Racers 2]]'' implies that Life on Mars might also be a StealthSequel to the LEGO Arctic line, since the game identifies an identical-looking scientist on the Arctic team as "Doc".
* StellarName: Every Martian has one.
* ThemeNaming: All the Martians were [[StellarName named after stars]].
* TwentyMinutesIntoTheFuture: Compared to most LEGOSpace themes, Life on Mars is closest to modern technology. It certainly helps that it's a StealthSequel to the [[Toys/LEGOCity Space Port]] line, which appears to be set in present day.
