* Elise from the infamous ''[[VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2006 Sonic '06]]'' really has the chips stacked against her. Right off the bat, she suffers from being a DamselScrappy and very swiftly moves into DieForOurShip territory with the fanbase. Even people who wouldn't otherwise dislike her for shipping reasons may dislike her from the sheer levels of {{Squick}} in Sonic having a human love interest.

** ''VideoGame/SonicGenerations'' makes the issue worse by making its help almost entirely automatic, unlike in ''VideoGame/SonicAdventure2'' where it was usually only triggered by movement. Omochao's voice was also changed to be even more high-pitched, which did him no favors. Thankfully, it also makes the issue infinitely better by giving players the option to turn Omochao off.

** Sonic could be seen as this as he sadistically tortures Robotnik, Scratch, Grounder, and Coconuts. Even when Coconuts decides to run away and possibly be good, Sonic tells him to stay with Robotnik. Not to mention he slams on bar tables, insults the bartenders, and whines while he waits. * It's easy to come to dislike the two Miis wearing Mario and Sonic suits respectively in ''[[VideoGame/MarioAndSonicAtTheOlympicGames Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games]]''' "Road to Rio" mode. The two are nothing short of shallow Mario/Sonic fanboys who immediately try to drag you into their feud the second you arrive. After that, the two will constantly badmouth the other team and blame the other side for everything from their team's captain being inactive to stealing their own medals from the Hall of medals. It's no surprise to learn that they're working for Bowser and Eggman. [[spoiler:Though, given that Eggman brainwashed them in the first place you can't blame their actions]].

* Going one step beyond his standard BaseBreakingCharacter status, Shadow manages to land himself squarely here in ''[[VideoGame/SonicBoom Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric]]''. He was stripped of all of his more [[ByronicHero flawed yet still sympathetic]] AntiHero qualities, and given a flimsy "[[{{Jerkass}} I hate friendship]]" attitude. He also has [[BigLippedAlligatorMoment no effect in the story]]; he just [[GiantSpaceFleaFromNowhere shows up for a random boss fight and is gone for the remainder of the game]], aside from a small cameo at the end. So he's not only unlikable, but also completely inconsequential. ''Shattered Crystal'' gives him a ''slightly'' more justified reason for his attitude -- Shadow was brainwashed by Lyric into serving him -- and more clarity to his significance ([[spoiler:he even takes out Lyric in the ending]]), but even then, it's not much.

** Antoine gets a lot of flak for not really doing anything useful. His cowardly personality tends to annoy viewers more than amuse them, especially since he tend to be a DirtyCoward at times. If he was more of a LovableCoward like Chuckie from Rugrats he probably would have been more liked. It also doesn't help that he really doesn't have any real redeeming traits (outside of a few JerkWithAHeartOfGold moments). Given that he is the StrawLoser of the group and Sonic doesn't like him, it could be intentional.

He was originally a one-shot character that revealed that he had given Sonic a life lesson when he was younger and had performed a HeroicSacrifice to save Sonic from an ambush. When Ian Flynn took over, he compiled a list of characters in the series and arranged them in popularity, finding out that Tommy was STILL at the bottom. ** Sonia's vain, germaphobic personality and annoying voice place her squarely in this territory from the get-go. It's subverted, however; Sonia's bout of amnesia makes her more competent than when she was with her brothers, as well as the fact that she seems to get more character development over Manic and Sonic.

** Chris Thorndyke. From the second episode onward, he took up much of the spotlight from the other characters, even Sonic himself. Characters will only be praised for saving the day if Chris played a part in it, however little (and he'll always be given even praise by the one who did all the work). The way he obsesses over Sonic makes even Amy's attraction look perfectly normal. And fans were absolutely furious when he stole Amy's role of Shadow's conscience in the ''Sonic Adventure 2'' adaptation, so that he could hog more of the spotlight at the expense of not allowing Amy to show her HiddenDepths.

** Dulcy and Antoine's statuses as scrappies carry over from the ''[=SatAM=]'' series. Although Antoine would later [[CharacterDevelopment mature as a character]], he still gets it bad, as he's now hated by some for having lost his defining characteristics and becoming bland as a result. The poor guy just can't win.
** Drago Wolf, the [[FaceHeelTurn Wolf Pack Freedom Fighter traitor]]. No one likes this misogynistic bastard, not even current writer Ian Flynn (who has gleefully stated he only brings the guy out whenever he wants him thrashed by the good guys). The fact that he's a despicable coward whose only claim to fame was tricking his former girlfriend into playing the patsy to a murder/frame-up in a totally illogical and scientifically impossible way, and joining an [[PsychoRangers anti-Freedom Fighter team]] that he's contributed nothing to, during his tenure there doesn't help his cause, any.
** There's also Tommy Turtle. He was originally a one-shot character that revealed that he had given Sonic a life lesson when he was younger and had performed a HeroicSacrifice to save Sonic from an ambush. However, he ended up returning after a TimeSkip, healthy, whole... and attempting to replace Tails and Rotor. When Ian Flynn took over, he compiled a list of characters in the series and arranged them in popularity, finding out that Tommy was STILL at the bottom. He's promptly killed off during Ian's collection of AuthorsSavingThrow.
* Shortfuse the Cybernik from ''ComicBook/SonicTheComic''. Overpowered, with little personality besides an allegedly short temper which did nothing to make him stand out (''everybody'' hated Robotnik), and a HolierThanThou attitude, most fans found him both annoying and tiresome, especially since he [[AsYouKnow told his backstory]] ''every time he appeared,'' sometimes twice in one issue.issue.

* Silver the Hedgehog, also from ''[[VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2006 Sonic '06]]'', qualifies as well. Mainly for taking everything an ObviouslyEvil DevilInPlainSight [[WhatAnIdiot says at face value]] and causing [[DamselScrappy Elise]] to get kidnapped over and over and over again and thus forcing Sonic to spend nearly the whole game rescuing her. Not to mention ThatOneBoss battle against him in Sonic's story.

* The Deadly Six from ''VideoGame/SonicLostWorld''. Not only are their character designs out-of-place even for the Sonic series, their characterizations are so cliché yet minimal, and the explanations for their existence are nonexistent, that it's hard to see the point behind them.

** That being said, he did have a handful of people who liked him and he was considered to be RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap thanks to SonicChronicles, to the point that when it was announced that [[PutOnABus he was not going to be making any more appearances in Sonic titles,]] it evoked AlasPoorScrappy out of a sizable chunk of the fanbase.
* Omochao gets a lot of heat for basically the same reasons Navi does. ''VideoGame/SonicGenerations'' makes the issue worse by making its help almost entirely automatic and giving it the voice of a little girl, unlike in ''VideoGame/SonicAdventure2'' where it was usually only triggered by movement.

* A rare case of an inanimate object achieving this status, the Barrel of Doom from [[VideoGame/Sonic3AndKnuckles Carnival Night Zone Act 2]] created a roadblock for numerous players in TheNineties, [[GuideDangIt as there is no indication of the proper way of activating it]]: most would think to push it down by jumping on it, when in fact it required the unorthodox (for this series) button pattern of up and down. It was so infamous that [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XeBgeN5uG8 Yuji Naka pubicly apologized for this poor level design choice]].
* [[MegaNeko Big the Cat]], ever since his debut in ''VideoGame/SonicAdventure'' which had both him and the player sitting through tedious [[FishingMinigame fishing missions]] in order to make progress. * Cream the Rabbit is quite popular in Japan, [[AmericansHateTingle but opinion on her is very mixed in western territories, due to her soft and always-happy nature.]] To some she's a BadassAdorable for being a GameBreaker in her debut game, but to others she's simply a CousinOliver thrown in the mix as an additional KidAppealCharacter.

* Marine is another one of the increasingly unpopular BrattyHalfPint characters in the series. Even with the constant lampshading of her behavior [[VideoGame/SonicRushAdventure in her debut game]] (Blaze gets noticeably fed up with her as the game's story goes on), many of her non-fans deem both her and her forced Aussie accent to be obnoxious and find her absence in later games to be almost unnoticeable.
