** An often overlooked one is [[spoiler:Cybil's]] death in the film adaptation. It's a little hard to make out given that she's uttering the words in a whispered gasp, but if one listens carefully, her last words are "Mother... be with me...".
** To add to the this massive tearjerker, after Rose and [[spoiler: Sharon/Alessa]] drive "away" from Silent Hill, Rose passes by glancing at [[spoiler: Cybil's motorcycle, fully knowing that Cybil will never return for it.]]
*** How does anybody not mention the film's version of [[spoiler: Lisa]]'s fate? The poor girl [[spoiler: has her eyes completely burned by Alessa while taking care of her]]. Even ''Dark Alessa'' feels this is [[EvenEvilHasStandards unjustified by her other counterpart's standards]].
*** The flashback scenes are ''brimming'' with this. It's revealed that Dahlia never meant for her daughter to get hurt - and the way she just crumples to the floor when she sees what's happened, completely distraught.
*** At the end, the only people who aren't [[spoiler: killed by a vengeful Alessa are Sharon, Rose and Dahlia]]. Even after everything she went through, [[spoiler: Alessa doesn't blame her mother]].

** In a meta example, the cancellation of ''VideoGame/SilentHills'' and that utterly ''insulting'' slot machine that was put out instead.
*** What makes the cancellation of ''Silent Hills'' both heartbreaking and infuriating is that after such a BrokenBase of games after ''4: The Room'', fans felt the series was gonna endure a resurrection with the genius of Creator/HideoKojima and Creator/GuillermoDelToro and having ''ComicBook/TheWalkingDead'' actor Norman Reedus on board (and later on having '''Junji Ito''' of ''Uzumaki'') was a DreamTeam in heaven. Then Konami fired Kojima, causing Del Toro and Reedus to leave and Konami simply deciding to cancel what can be considered the most heartwrenching {{What Could Have Been}}s ever.

* The "Good +" and "Good" endings, when [[spoiler:Alessa dies]]. Quadruple that for the Bad endings, where [[spoiler: Cheryl dies with her]], and worst of all is the worst ending, where it was all [[spoiler: Harry's DyingDream]].

''SilentHill2''

* ''SilentHill 2''. Sweet merciful crap, ''SilentHill 2''. It isn't the utter [[MindScrew mindfuck]] that is the first game and it doesn't have as much [[HighOctaneNightmareFuel unrelenting horror]] as the third, but more than compensates by destroying the player in plenty of other ways. Any and all scenes with Angela, Maria's [[spoiler:first and second]] death, the video and the tape in the hotel, the conversation in the pseudo-EndlessCorridor, Mary's letter, ''every single one'' of the MultipleEndings, even the vaguely happy one (with the exception of the [[CrowningMomentOfFunny joke endings]], obviously)... You might as well have gone to Silent Hill yourself.
* [[spoiler: "You killer! I hate you, I hate you, I hate you!"]]
* The scene where you find out [[spoiler:what ''really'' happened to James's wife]], and the infamous bad ending [[spoiler:in which James commits suicide by driving his car into the lake so that he and his beloved Mary can be together again]].
** Made even worse by the fact that [[spoiler:Mary's dying wish was for James to move on and be happy again. Damn you, {{dramatic irony}}]].
* The scene where Angela walks up the "stairway to hell."
** For this troper ''any'' scene with Angela counts, simply because she's probably one of the saddest characters in video game history. Her breakdown following the "Abstract Daddy" scene is physically painful for this troper to view.

Just to hammer home the fact that all he really wanted was to be with his mommy, his younger manifestation, who is still knocking at your apartment door, collapses and disappears. And then the door finally creaks open.]]

* Travis's breakdown after fighting the memory of his father. "WHY DIDN'T YOU LET ME FORGET??!!!!"
* Travis memory ''before'' fighting his father.

''SilentHillHomecoming''

* [[spoiler:"She loves dollies..."]] And lets not forget [[spoiler: The door in Scarlet's boss room, with things like "Daddy, I love you" and "I want to die" written in blood on it. This troper was so traumatized, she let Scarlet maul her to death.]]
** Made even more heartbreaking by the fact that her father loved her and spoiled her to make sure she had a happy life [[spoiler: before he was forced to murder her. He's so scarred by it that he can't stop cutting himself, and when Scarlet rises as a monster, she cradles him lovingly for a moment... before literally biting his head off.]]
* Elle's theme at first sounds a little sad, but then you find out [[spoiler: What happened to Norah.]] Sniff.
* The scene with Alex and his mom in [[spoiler: the prison. Although it goes from heartbreaking to downright traumatizing if you decide NOT to mercy kill her.]]
* Mayor Bartlett [[spoiler: pleading with Sepulcher - his dead son, whom he KILLED, in the form of a monster - before being mercilessly crushed.]]

''SilentHillShatteredMemories''

* The ending, depending on which one you get, you'll very likely be crying, but, here's a quote from a part of two of the endings:

** Two that ''need'' to be mentioned, though - the "Love Lost" ending, [[spoiler: where it shows a video of Cheryl taping Harry's departure from his family after their divorce, and kneeling down to explain - [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdSd4StpGEk "Even though mom and dad don't love each other anymore, we both love you - and we always will."]]]] The other, at least for ThisTroper, was seeing a silhouette of a girl in the Mall to receive a voicemail from a panicked security guard, finishing with this.

* Some players got annoyed at the playing of the video for Cheryl with Harry playing over and over and OVER again in the beginning. However, it's the last thing that's shown in the game, but now we know the real story, making the videos 10 times sadder.
* Almost every single Echo Memory make this troper either shiver or want to break down in tears. Special mentions go to: The little boys in the water treatment plant, Joel in the woods, "Oh Jesus, you're bleeding?!" and the happy couple at the high school.
* Mary Elizabeth McGlynn's vocal work DRIVES THIS HOME. Especially in "Hell Frozen Rain" and "Acceptance."
