At least he died in the ruins that he was so passionate about, but that doesn't soften the blow... And then he's shown to be fine about ten minutes later. Not quite so sad, but it gave several of us minor heart attacks.]]

** Long story short, the last ten or so minutes of Unwound Future will make you SOB. [[spoiler:Klaus/Clive's MotiveRant and saying that he was really hoping for the Professor to save him and that he actually did enjoy their time together.]] (Although apparently [[YourMileageMayVary YMMV]] for some people.) [[spoiler:Layton's goodbye with Claire, like the above troper already mentioned. Luke saying goodbye. And if you look closely at that cutscene, you can see that Layton's crying too.]]

** This troper decided to watch that scene. He has never played any game in that series. He knows nothing about the series at all. HE STILL CRIED.
*** Worse, [[spoiler:it's not just that his heart is breaking. It's that he's just rediscovered that the woman he loved was actually alive, just in time to lose her all over again.]] BAWWWW.

** I watched the cutscene through tears. During the credits, I thought I would be able to wipe them away and get a breather from all the heartwrenching stuff, enjoy all those credit picture things, you know. But noooooooo. [[spoiler:I lost it again when young Layton and Clive/Klaus were shown walking with his sweetheart and his parents respectively.]] After that, I thought, okay good, now I can stop crying. And then they surprised me with the last cutscene. (Luke and I have one thing in common. We're both bawlers.) Okay, now is it over? Whoops, no, there's another cutscene! I went through the last puzzle and they surprise me with an establishing shot of [[spoiler:Layton, all alone in his office.]]
*** Before the final ending, I had the wonderful feeling of playing a brilliant game with an incredibly emotional ending. Then [[spoiler:Luke leaves. Sobbing. Layton watches the boat depart, alone. It's such a brief moment for them to say goodbye, and left me ''utterly crushed'' -- especially when you think that poor Layton, who just went through ''so. much.'' and lost the love of his life ''all over again'' is going to be at a loss and vulnerable. He needs someone to cheer him up. Too bad Luke is already gone! Granted, he has Flora to stay with him, but he and Luke were total HeterosexualLifePartners that it probably wont be the same, at least for a long time. But then Luke sends the adorable letter and Layton looks so happy to receive it -- it was a nicer way to end than to leave all the players ''completely'' drowning in their own tears.]]
**** Just before the ending, I was so happy and was still on an adrenaline rush because of the stunning animated action-packed climax of the game which was in a word -- EPIC. Then, the denouement shattered me. From "WOW! THIS IS THE BEST LAYTON GAME YET!" to "WHAT?! NO! WHY?! There were tears in my eyes. I played the game a year or two ago, and I've forgotten the details of the climax, but I can still remember how achingly sad the ending (both of them) were, and yeah -- watching it on Youtube still makes my eyes water.

* In ''Specter's Flute/Last Specter'': [[spoiler:We find out about a giant sea creature named Loosha, a cute giant sea lion who befriended Arianna the so-called witch. It was fighting off the specters tooth and nail all so it could lead Arianna to the Golden Garden to cure her. Unfortunately, all the wounds Loosha took to make sure Arianna could come to the garden caught up with her and she died. Its body then sinks into the depths of the water and....(starts crying)]]
** [[spoiler:Oh, and one more thing: Loosha was the last of her species, and that fact added to the adorable flashbacks of Loosha playing with Arianna and Tony is just heartbreaking. Made even worse was before finding out about the Golden Garden, Loosha was breaking down the dam and Arianna screamed that she hated Loosha and threw a rock at her...and then instantly regretted it when Loosha lets out her finaly cry.]]

** [[spoiler:Oh, and one more thing: Loosha was the last of her species, and that fact added to the adorable flashbacks of Loosha playing with Arianna and Tony is just heartbreaking.]]

Layton tells him a gentleman doesn't make a scene in public, but Luke, the boy who has always strived his darnest to be a gentleman shouts, ''"I'm sorry, but I'm not a gentleman yet!"'' He then leaps into Layton's arms while in fits of tears. After so much of their camaderiere, to see them say "so long" is heartwrenching.]]

** In ''Lost Future/Unwound Future'', there's one point where Layton is explaining how he kept trying to [[spoiler:investigate Claire's death, but he ends up getting ''severly'' beaten]]. The player is then treated to [[http://images.wikia.com/layton/images/9/9a/Hershel_Brutally_Beaten.PNG this]] image. To see the good Professor like that is very upsetting to say the least.

Mix the pictures of [[spoiler:Sophia and Anton's love and separation, Mr. Beluga and Anton's reunion, and Katia and Anton returning to Dropstone and are welcomed back with praise]] with the music above, and you got yourself feeling like happily crying for a good amount of time.
* Everywhere in the ending ''{{Professor Layton}} and the Unwound Future'', but especially during the third-to-last cutscene. [[spoiler: "I don't want to say goodbye again! I can't! I won't!" All the more heartrending when you remember Professor Layton usually plays the part of the unflappable, unemotional English gentleman; for that one moment, the mask slips, and you get to see his heart in the process of breaking -- and your own breaks with it.]]
