* CanadaEh:
** Very much so. The accents, plus the love of Music/{{Rush|Band}} and hockey...
** The show is actually a pretty accurate depiction of people living in the Maritimes (especially New Brunswick and Nova Scotia), though obviously satirized. Bubbles in particular is probably the biggest example of this, especially his heavy accent.
** They also use a lot of local Halifax-area slang in the dialogue. "Con college" is apparently a Haligonian (a term used to describe a resident of Halifax) term for jail.
*** In ''The Delusions of Officer Jim Lahey'', Lahey says "let's go to the LC." "LC," as most anyone from Nova Scotia can tell you, is the slang term for the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission (NSLC).
** There's also the scenes at the King of Donairs pizza place and several appearances in The Movie from Propeller, a microbrew from Halifax.
** "Jesus Murphey" is also used sometimes.

* GuiltTripping: In the first season, [[CrassCanuck Ricky]] gets into trouble when [[SitcomArchnemesis Mr. Lahey]] catches him making a porn film with [[PrettyFlyForAWhiteGuy J-Roc]], and confiscates the tape so he can {{Blackmail}} Ricky into leaving the trailer park by threatening to show the tape to his on-again-off-again LoveInterest Lucy. In an example of this trope that overlaps with AdvanceNoticeCrime, Ricky leaves a phone message for his friend [[OnlySaneMan Julian]] that emotionally blackmails him that goes like this:
-->'''Ricky:''' Julian! It's Ricky here. Just letting you know that, uh, I've thought about this, I feel I have no other options. I'm gonna go down to Lahey's trailer, I'm gonna break in, and I'm basically probably gonna kill Mr. Lahey, and I'm thinking about killing [[FatBastard Randy]] as well, and I'm gonna take the porno tape back. I've talked to [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} Bubbles]] about it, he's probably gonna give me a hand, because [[MurderIsTheBestSolution we both can't have this tape floating around]]. So, anyway, you know, I was kind of counting on [[TheSmartGuy you]] to maybe help plan this, but if you don't want to, that's up to you. I just hope you won't feel guilty when me and Bubbles are both in jail and [[MurderByInaction you know that you could have prevented a murder]]. Talk to you later.

Julian has a chip on his shoulder, and can be unpleasant when doing illegal activity. And their SitcomArchNemesis, Jim Lahey the park supervisor, is a vindictive [[TheAlcoholic alcoholic]] willing to arrest them for the pettiest reasons, make Ricky literally kiss his ass in public after failing to win a bet, and is constantly going on long-winded tangents that include repeated insertions of the word "shit".

* CourtroomAntic: Any time Ricky is in a courtroom. Besides interrupting people with no regard for legal process, it's established that he simply cannot think clearly unless he can smoke and swear, enough so that a judge allows him to do both in court so he can properly make his arguments. This gets a CallBack in ''Live from Fuckin' Dublin'', where he swears in a courtroom in Ireland, prompting the judge to tell him to "stop fucking swearing", but both him and the judge do so for the rest of scene, and the judge rants at Ricky about how he should have bought drugs in Ireland and helped their economy instead of bringing them in.

** Randy is seen alongside Mr. Lahey whenever the latter is at court. Since he never wears a T-shirt or anything on his upper half, the rules of courthouse decorum would mean that Randy would not be allowed into the courthouse, much less a court''room''' and even if he was allowed by more lenient officials, the Judge would likely have him escorted outside.

** Most of the cars in the show start out in good condition, but usually end up this way by the end of the season. Mr. Lahey's car ended up providing parts for the Shitmobile at the end of one season. * DarkerAndEdgier: Don't Legalize It is this relative to noticeably bleaker than the preceding movies and later seasons, featuring understated humor, more emotional scenes and a somewhat bleaker tone more in line with the first two few seasons. The series' trademark debauchery and antics are of course still present, but the shift in tone is still very noticeable. For one, it opens up with the characters in some fairly dire circumstances that are played for drama rather than comedy:
** Julian was fired from his bar bouncer job after humiliatingly losing a fight with a drunk customer, which clearly damaged his confidence and forced him back into criminal work.
** Lahey had a stroke and has lost some mobility and speech capability.
** Bubbles is now living under Lucy and Sarah's trailer, barely ekes out enough money to get by as a delivery driver, and has taken to drinking heavily.
** Jacob starts out with a promising new career in the military, but gets dishonorably discharged early in the movie after getting caught in one of Julian's criminal schemes.
** Ray died before the movie started, which opens with his funeral. [[spoiler: Though Ricky finds out at the end that he faked his death for insurance money and is now living happily in Florida.]]
** Even Phil Collins is shown to be in poor health and now requires a wheelchair. This doubles as a sad example of RealLifeWritesThePlot, as Richard Collins was actually ill and passed away during the movie's filming period.
** The movie is even shot with a gloomier atmosphere, taking place mostly on overcast winter days, and replaced the classic rock of the last two movies with a moody old-time country soundtrack. Since it was the last thing Mike Clattenburg directed before handing off ownership to the new production team, many fans believe he deliberately shot something in line with the darker tone of the pilot and first two seasons to bring things full-circle.
