The Coalition of Ponyist States ([=CoPS=]) is an RP Group on the NationStates forums. The nations in [=CoPS=] RP the existence of ponies, as seen in the TV Show WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic; however, these ponies have broken themselves out of the SugarBowl that they lived in, and have come into a world where they are face to face with the same challenges that humanity faces today, with others piled at their side.

The Coalition of Ponyist States was originally founded jointly on August 2, 2011 by Enatai and Urmanian. At this point, the idea of Pony based RP had only just begun. However, over time, the idea of the pony species living alongside humanity, and many previously other established species that inhabit NationStates. Roleplay slowly established the pony nations as a permanant fixture of NationStates. While in the beginning of Co PS history, the vast majority of storylines were dealing with nations that attempted to commit genocide on the pony species, Co PS RP has begun to switch over to interaction with other groups of Role Players, as well as gained a focus on developing the relations between the various nations of the Coalition.

In character:

The origin of the Pony species is shrouded in mystery. Some say that they evolved the same way as humans, while other say the Regal Sisters--Celestia and Luna--created the ponies in their own image. Whatever the reason, the races of ponies have spread across the world, and now live alongside humans, elves, saurians, and all other forms of life that inhabit the NationStates world.

The pony species ''Equus sapiens'' is divided into three subspecies-- all of which can interbreed freely.

* Earth Ponies (''Equus sapiens terrestris'') till the land, and their skills help to nurture the soil to produce bountiful crops.

* Unicorn Ponies (''Equus sapiens rinocerotis'') who can perform magical abilities such as telekinesis.

Perhaps Ponyism's [[PlanetofHats hat]] is their universal devotion to the 'Elements of Harmony'. Just like in [[RealLife]] while almost all ponies and ponyists agree on the existence and names of the Elements of Harmony, anything beyond that is open to debate.

* AMillionIsAStatistic: Being a NationStates roleplay, quite common. Most nations care little for the lives of their people, even alleged democratic states are willing to throw their nation into war (even a nuclear one) regularily. Overlaps with EasyLogistics as armies of millions are sent thousands of kilometers on a semi-regular basis.

* ChurchMilitant: The Shrill Crisis ran on this trope which when the theocratic government overturned the secular one and went on a crusade upon Crystal Spires. [[DivineIntervention the Pony Gods were not pleased]].

* CommissarCap: Multiple nation's players are ''{{Warhammer 40000}}'' fans, and it shows in the hats that they give their troops to wear.

** Most nations that exist in the region of Mystria fall into this trope, at least in visual style.
** The Beastling States of Crystal Spires even has this in their name, and plays it straight.

* FantasticRacism: Many humans find the existence of ponies distasteful. Reactions to them have ranged from denying the existince of ponies, to launching campaigns of mass genocide.

** New Freedomstan gets applauded for playing this trope 'straight' with some of its Equine Research Stations.

** Greater Pony Herd v. Lubyak. Nearly escalated to nuclear war, and discussion of potential nuclear exchange still continues. A non-canonical RP does exist detailing the events of such a war were it to have actually occurred.

* HobbesWasRight: The Dominion of the Lubyak RUNS on this trope. It has led to more than one conflict with other states.

** Crystal Spires averts this trope by ''actually encrypting'' messages.

* JustForPun: Half the city names. Moosecow, Yecanterinburg, Flankfurt...YMMV if JustForPun or IncrediblyLamePun

* PhysicalReligion: Ponyism is one, considering that Luna and Celestia actually exist in [=CoPS=] canon. Mystrian Pandeism is another, [[UnreliableNarrator but it's not how it written in the Holy Codices.]]

* SealedEvilInACan: Discord. Death Wise. Zaiden. The list goes on.

** Became a major point of contention in rivalry between Imeriata and other pony nations which eventually lead to them leaving when many of the members signed the Amistad Declaration, which declared a state of war against all slaver nations.

** The Schizo Tech has led to a new classification of technology, 'Pony Tech' has begun to be implemented, which attempts to combine the magic inherent in ponies and modern technology.

** C'tan and Menelmacar slaughter millions in the name of putting an end to slavery.

* WeAREStrugglingTogether: The Coalition claims to be an 'alliance'. However, more often than not the energies of the various nations are directed less at supporting ponyism around the world, and more at sniping at fellow Coalition states. However, when something gets the entire Coalition to band together, the results are terrifying indeed.

*** In fact, OOC attitude problems with the player behind Hippostania over this issue have recently led the CoPS to throw out Hippostania and roleplay a nuclear attack against it.

* FixedForwardFacingWeapon: The [=YellowApple, Inc. BitTrigger=] normally results in this for infantrystallions which use it, though it's capable of being "unlocked" so the attached rifle can be manipulated as if a humanoid were holding it, making this a subversion in some cases.

* ForTheEvulz: Basically what the majority of pony-killing/enslaving/maiming/hating "in-character" threads boil down to, considering that the justifications tend to be strawman arguments at best. Some anti-pony players are starting to formulate more legitimate reasons to be anti-pony, but the majority continue to fall quite painfully into this trope.

* HumansAreBastards: New Freedomstan and Imeriata, in different ways. Special mention goes to Equine Research Station #5.
** Not to mention much of the general reaction from human nations towards the Coalition of Ponyist States, most who seem to do it for Out Of Character reasons.

* HollywoodEncryption: Most "encrypted" communiques are merely specified to be encrypted, instead of actual details on the encryption method used. This is mostly to HandWave very-hard-to-decrypt messages, since providing a real-life encryption method/algorithm would allow more tech-saavy players an advantage in explaining how they'd decrypt the message.

* MinovskyPhysics: Pony "magic" is quickly becoming this if it hasn't already (rather than being AppliedPhlebotinum or HandWave), with loads and loads of scientific concepts coming into play - including quantum physics (unicorn magic / pegasus flight / grabbing things with hooves), neuroscience (cutie marks / cutie pox), genetics engineering and evolution (how ''Equus sapiens'' came to be), nanorobotics (the Smooze), and many other topics - in order to make for a believable concept rather than rely on WillingSuspensionOfDisbelief.
** Other players just say AWizardDidIt and don't go into details.

* PhysicalGod: Princess Celestia and Princess Luna.

* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: Luna and Celestia fit this trope to the letter, except that they're older than that.

* SlaveLiberation: Became a major point of contention in rivalry between Imeriata and other pony nations which eventually lead to them leaving when many of the members signed the Amistad Declaration, which declared a state of war against all slaver nations.
** YellowApple also managed a massive liberation in an impressive manner which nearly put itself into bankruptcy to atone itself for its prior life as a slaver nation.
* SchizoTech: Like the universe of WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic, the CoPS has a variety of technologies that normally wouldn't accompany one another. This is especially prevalent when comparing nations that generally play the source material's technology relatively straight (such as the Greater Pony Herd) against nations which are significantly advanced technologically and typically will not implement "past-tech" technologies (such as [=YellowApple=]). Similarly, not all players use the same approach of validating pony "magic"; while the players behind Princess Luna and Crystal Spires, for example, stay toward the "magical" end of the explanation spectrum, others - such as the players behind [=YellowApple=] and Behntasha - go for the "scientific" end.

** The player behind [=YellowApple=] uses preformatted text to indicate radio chatter.
*** His use of "[=YellowApplan=]" grammatical/punctuation/spelling rules in spoken text also partially fits this trope, as it's often used as an indication that the speaker is speaking in YellowApplan English.

* UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans: C'tan and Menelmacar slaughter millions in the name of putting an end to slavery.

* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotAwesome: The nations of Karlsland, Orussia, and Austria-Bohemia-Hungary often RP with the Coalition. They posess [[StrikeWitches Witches]]. No more needs to be said.
** Not to mention Muffinvania. Who runs a muffins based economy.
* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotHeinous: The nation of Hippostania takes a very hard line against Communists, leftists, leftist-looking people, the colour red, alcohol, sex, sharing and more.

* WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity: Averted with Princess Luna and Princess Celestia, but played terrifyingly straight with Discord and (at least in the context of political power) Lyra.

* WouldNotShootACivilian: [=YellowApple=] is famous for stepping in the way of the rest of the [=CoPS=] in their attempts to exterminate entire civilizations for crimes of a minority population thereof. CrystalSpires does the same due to laws in Forntian Idealism.

* YourMindMakesItReal: Used once upon a time by anti-pony factions to degrade the Ponyist movement explaining that ponies don't actually exist but are merely hallucinations and/or psychological constructs, and that perceiving their existence and/or perceiving oneself to ''be'' a pony is indicative of psychological illness.
** Zaiden Illusory attacks as well.

* CatGirl: Many nations have such residents, Ponyist nations included. [=YellowApple=] calls them ''Homo sapiens felis'', and regards them to be a subspecies of ''Homo sapiens''. YourMileageMayVary.

* [[UnstoppableMailman Unstoppable Mailpony]]: Derpy Hooves is implied to be this, considering that the [=YellowApplan=] postal service was in a rather dismal state (to the point of little to no parcel infrastructure whatsoever) since a high-tech nation like [=YellowApple=] had little to no need for conventional government-run mail services (opting for private-sector alternatives instead). Despite obstacles such as a lack of mail receptacles and/or locked doors, Derpy still figured out a way to deliver "mail" (usually in the form of postmarked muffins stuffed inside of former junk mail envelopes, the former contents of which were eaten); the constant stream of praise from [=YellowApplan=] citizens resulted in her rapid promotion to the top of her department and a complete revigoration of the [=YellowApple=] Department of Parcel Services (and [[RuleOfFunny Muffins]]).

** Administrator Amarillo Manzano subverted. He was thought to be, but ultimately was not.

* BlingOfWar: Imeriata. Just...Imeriata.

* ChurchMilitant: The Greater Pony Herd takes worship of the Regal Sisters and the Elements of Harmony very, very seriously.
** Shrilland also fit this trope for a brief period of time, before the Shrill Inquisition was thwarted and the former non-theocratic government returned to power.

* FantasticRacism: Chancellor Morning Star of the Greater Pony Herd has a low opinion of humanity.

** Chancellor Maven Auryn of Crystal Spires is well over a thousand, and still going strong.
* ReptilesAreAbhorrent: Greater Mackonia and Whairtia - both of which are composed primarily of reptilian citizenry - are both significantly anti-pony.
** Averted by Saurisia, which is pro-pony.

* SlaveLiberation: One of the favorite pasttimes of the C'tani and Menelmacari. Crystal Spires also is an Abolitionist nation, and the Coalition as a whole occasionally acts to liberate pony slaves as well.
** YellowApple also nearly put itself into bankruptcy by paying for the freedom of 35 million ponies enslaved in Ruffnekia as one of its first actions on behalf of the [=CoPS=], in an attempt to atone itself for its prior life as a slaver nation, thus filling the "Buy Their Freedom" variety of this trope.

** Administrator Amarillo Manzano was also quite senile and psychologically unstable in his final years due to the prototype neurological implants and synthetic organs that essentially replaced his human body; luckily for the [=YellowApplans=] and the rest of the world, this mostly reflected in unusually-benign - though still unusual - actions such as adopting Secular Ponyism on a government-wide scale, ordering [=YellowApple, Inc. to join the CoPS=], and adopting an orphaned alicorn filly that would eventually become the Third Administrator and Voice of [=YellowApple=], Administrator Fostera Manzano, all while subverting the trope.

** Hippostania v. every nation remotely left-leaning. Hippostania's repeated oppression of any ideology short of center-right has often made it the target of political disdain from much of the rest of the [=CoPS=]. This is compounded by the accusations that the pony population - despite being a numerical minority - possesses power over the human majority, given that a proportionately small number of humans actually hold positions of significant political power (though some do).

* AirborneAircraftCarrier: Multiple nations have airborne aircraft carriers (and battleships!) justified through the use of [[Magitek]].

* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: [=YellowApplan=] Administrator Amarillo Manzano, who has at least in one instance (according to [=YellowApplan=] backstory) fought alongside [=YellowApplan=] forces when defending a chunk of Del Tangerino that crashed into Angrivantis; if it weren't for him (both from his sheer combat ability as a mostly-robotic fighting machine and from the significant morale boost of his presence), it would not have been a [=YellowApplan=] victory. Granted, he's not exactly ''royalty'', but his position of power is akin to a quasi-autocratic monarch.

* AirborneAircraftCarrier: Multiple nations have airborne aircraft carriers (and battleships!) justified through the use of [[magitech]].

* BigBadFriend: Several nations fit the bill by being excessively violent toward those who oppress ponies (the Greater Pony Herd - specifically Shadowmane - being a glorious example of this), despite both the Element of Kindness (one of the Six Elements of Harmony around which Ponyism revolves) and allied nations [=ICly=] speaking against such actions, citing that violence ought to be a necessity at most, not an objective.
** C'tan and Menelmacar are very much this trope. They'll happily take you on a tour of their cities, even as they casually order massed [[DeathFromAbove orbital attacks]] that wipe entire nations from the face of the planet.

* CatFight: Happened between [=YellowApple's=] Blue Belle and a caricature of Sarah Palin. Blue Belle won.

* DangerDeadpan: Pilots in the [=YellowApple=] Aerospace Defense Corps tend to satisfy this trope, since piloting a hypersonic high-tech supercomputing Blade-II Aerospace Interceptor armed with anti-air missiles and a forward-mounted revolving kinetic cannon of aerospace doom with anything short of absolute psychological calm is a recipe for disaster.

* FinishingStomp: Blue Belle of [=YellowApplan=] fame used one on none other than SarahPalin (or more accurately, a caricature thereof), who was assisting an attempt to murder [=TurtleShroom's=] Regent Sim Young, who was later [[HarsherInHindsight among the architects of the TurtleShroomian Dark Harvest and was better off simply being allowed to die]].

* GreaseMonkey: Ratchet, the crew chief of [=NationStates'=] first ever pony racecar driver in the international leagues (specifically, Soarin', the [=YellowApplan=] driver in the [=NationStates Grand Prix=] for the two most recent seasons), is certainly an example of this trope, along with CoolOldGuy and TheObiWan in his ways of convincing Soarin' to keep going instead of being distraught about not-so-stellar race results.
* HordeOfAlienLocusts: The Smooze, which some accept to be the cause of the extinction of ponykind's evolutionary ancestors, ''Equus antecessor''.
** Parasprites may also fill this trope, though their use in roleplays is relatively limited at present.

* HollywoodAtheist: Mostly averted by [=YellowApple=], which is a corporatocracy influenced by Secular Ponyism. [=YellowApplans=] ''are'' technophiles, however, which is a component of [[HollywoodAtheist Hollywood Atheism]].

** [=YellowApplan=] scientists - and even some non-scientist characters - will occasionally fall into this trope, though subverting it by not actually claiming expertise in the subjects not covered by degrees (though most politicians ''will'' have degrees in "Political Engineering" and "Psychology".
* OrificeInvasion: The [=NationStates=] version of the Smooze fits this trope quite nicely.

* PhysicalGod: Princess Celestia and Princess Luna.

* PuppeteerParasite: The Smooze does this by replacing a creature's blood with itself and hijacking neurons, eventually injecting messages directly into the victim's conscious mind (most commonly a PreMortemOneLiner about the victim being "unworthy"). Demonstrated in at least one instance to addtionally involve completely controlling the victim's central nervous system and taking over its mind and body, and another instance involving mutating an infantile ''Equus antecessor'' (G1 pony) into Discord.

* PrinciplesZealot: The Beastling State of Crystal Spires, and their leader, Maven Auryn, tend to stick to their principles even at the cost of starting a major war.
** C'tan and Menelmacar also count, being willing to rip entire tectonic plates out of the planet if it means killing slavers.

** [=YellowApple=]'s Administrator Amarillo Manzano is somewhere between this and standard OlderThanTheyLook. Future Administrator Fostera "Frankie" Manzano, being an alicorn like Luna and Celestia (specifically, the [=NS=] version of the Fausticorn), is also expected to fill this trope.

* SealedEvilInACan: Discord.

** Hippostania's implementation of Lyra especially fits this trope.

* AirborneAircraftCarrier: [=YellowApple=] has them. They are awesome. They are also [[BreakingTheFourthWall named after NationStates moderators]].

* AltumVidetur: The [=YellowApplan=]-made aerospace platforms defending [=HideaBerry=] Island are named after the Latin translations of the Elements of Harmony.

* BeautyContest: There was going to be one at the [=YellowApplan=] International Multicultural Fair, but when that thread died, so did the BeautyContest.

* OrphansOrdeal: Fostera "Frankie" Manzano. She is orphaned not once, but ''twice'' (biological parents seemingly non-existent, and Administrator Amarillo Manzano assassinated). Most of her storyline is slated to involve juggling the grieving of her adoptive parents and the concealment of her status as a winged unicorn / alicorn.

* PhysicalReligion: Ponyism is one, considering that Luna and Celestia actually exist in [=CoPS=] canon.

* BeautyContest: There was going to be one at the [=YellowApplan=] International Multicultural Fair, but when that thread went mostly kaput, so did the BeautyContest.

* BreakTheCutie: The player behind [=YellowApple=] does this routinely with his characters. This started with transforming Blue Belle from a relatively-innocent office assistant to an ass-kicking diplomat with severe PostDramaticStressDisorder.
** [=YellowApple=]'s Fostera Manzano may eventually fit this trope, given that her adoptive parents are slated to die in a fiery death, leaving her orphaned and having to attend public school. This causes additional torment for apparently having a "weird medical condition that requires her to remain clothed at all times" (really, just her hiding her wings to avoid attention), and eventually culminates with the world trying to kill her when word gets out that she's an alicorn. Her {{Adorkable}} nature gives the "cutie" part of this trope.

* PostDramaticStressDisorder: YellowApple's player tends to write Blue Belle in ways that fit this trope, with moments of badassery immediately followed by physical and/or psychological collapse.

* MadeOfIron: Chancellor Maven Auryn of Crystal Spires seems to have a proclivity towards getting shot by everything from AAA shells to standard bullets, and living.[[spoiler:Averted and played straight. Maven has suffered permanent damage from some of these attempts on his life, but he believes to show weakness would be fatal, so he pretends nothing is wrong, and goes to work. Furthermore he is kept alive by the parasitic immortal being Zaiden, which slowly is consuming his soul]]
