** The reveal of the child surgeon is reminiscent of the twist ending of [[Recap/TheTwilightZoneS2E42TheEyeOfTheBeholder "The Eye of the Beholder"]], where a plastic surgery team working on an incurably ugly patient are revealed to all be hideous monsters, while the patient is a beautiful woman.

* VillainWithGoodPublicity: Oliver Foley, when elected President, gets a HundredPercentAdorationRating thanks to giving everyone free video games. Even his own staff greatly revere him after initially trying to oppose his immediate ideas.

* EverythingsBetterWithPenguins: A waddle of penguins can be seen on the South Lawn of the White House.

** Raff convinces Oliver to run for president even though he is only eleven years old. They get around the presidential age requirement by having Oliver's mother serve as his proxy -- but then that would make ''her'' the President of the United States and render Oliver's presidential demands impotent.
** Also the Constitution clearly states you have to be at least 35 years old to even become President!

* SpiritualSuccessor: To [[Recap/TheTwilightZoneS3E73ItsAGoodLife "It's a Good Life"]]. A child gains great power without anyone controlling him, and those who oppose him suffer terrible consequences.

* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: [[UsefulNotes/DonaldTrump A precedent-breaking outsider,]] who communicates primarily through social media and the internet, ends up appealing to much of the populace and surprisingly wins the presidency of the United States. [[Administrivia/RuleOfCautiousEditingJudgement Any further comparisons should be carefully thought over.]]

* ClimateChange: Climate change is brought up as one of the many topics that the last adult president was polling badly in.

* RealityEnsues:
** Oliver goes into his first presidential debate with no prep whatsoever, then proceeds to humiliate himself by stuttering through a question about his tax policies.
** Raff gets operated on by an apathetic prepubescent surgeon. His screams of agony don't give much hope for his recovery.

* AppealToPity: As his campaign plummets and Raff quits, Oliver releases an election video featuring his dying dog Homer. Raff jumps back to his aid upon seeing it and with Raff's campaigning his resurgent popularity catapults him to the White House. [[WoundedGazelleGambit Afterwards, Oliver reveals that this is a lie.]]

* DownerEnding: Raff eventually realizes Oliver is a monster, but fails to convince anyone of this and Oliver has him shot. Raff is taken for surgery, but Oliver has replaced the doctor with an apathetic kid who's in a rush to return to his video games. The kid proceeds to hack into Raff's chest with a knife while Raff screams in agony. And while not explicitly stated, it can be inferred that the United States is doomed to collapse from its newfound incompetent leadership neglecting to tackle any of its issues, such as foreign threats, crime, environment and economy.

* InferredHolocaust: Oliver's new law of "no old doctors" will doubtlessly lead to the collapse of ''all'' advanced medical care in the United States, as every competent surgeon and specialist is replaced by a child who either doesn't know what they're doing or doesn't care about following safe procedures. We see this firsthand with Raff, who ends the episode being sliced to bits by an apathetic prepubescent boy who wants to hurry surgery along so he can get back to his gaming.

* PhoneAddictedTeenager: The writers seem to think that ''everyone in the United States'' is one of these, adults included, as Oliver's rise to popularity stems from his social media savvy and use of video games to placate the public.

* GlobalWarming: Climate change is brought up as one of the many topics that the last adult president was polling badly in.
