Not the trope. The show still remains a comedy, and it doesn't turn grimdark from the character development

* CerebusSyndrome: The show remains a comedy throughout, but Season Two and ''especially'' Season Three have a lot more CharacterDevelopment and emotional moments--though the seeds were planted as early as "Georgina and the Waves."

* BogglesTheMind: In the second episode, Funn Funerals have a meeting to decide what to do using Boggle. Georgie's "cat", "bin", "photograph" seems irrelevant but foreshadows later events with Rudyard being accused of throwing a cat in a bin. Antigone comes up with Nouvelle and Vague as she's still thinking about sex scenes in French films (Rudyard points out that she was meant to come up with English words.) Rudyard, meanwhile...

By TRS decision Whip It Good is now a disambiguation page. Moving entries to appropriate tropes when possible.

* WhipItGood: Marlene Magdelana carries a whip with her everywhere and uses it to intimidate her subordinates (i.e., everyone). Georgie practically swoons.

His client bluntly responds, “Of course I’m devastated. It’s a funeral.” [[spoiler:The fact that Eric couldn't understand something so blatantly obvious shatters his confidence to the point he's ready to give up the business and leave the island.]]

** Despite everything, Rudyard takes funerals seriously and treats them with the respect they deserve. He's not mad at Chapman for running successful funerals, he's mad at Eric bringing what he considers frivolities into what's supposed to be a somber and serious affair. [[spoiler:Eric himself will [[JerkassHasAPoint admit Rudyard has a point there.]]]]

* GrandFinale: Series 4 Episode 10, "A Funn Farewell", features [[spoiler: The Funns finally on top with Eric preparing to leave Piffling, only for them to realize that they enjoyed having the free time to pursue other hobbies and don't want to be the only competition on the island any more. Chapman comes to terms with his grief over his past, and realizes that Piffling is his home and can't leave. * ComicallyLopSidedRivalry: Chapman's VS Funn Funerals. Chapman's an incredibly talented and universally beloved funeral director so successful he's tarted open a half-dozen other ventures; the Funns are despised, barely competent and on the brink of bankruptcy. Fight! [[spoiler:According to Madeleine, they actually start evening out in the epilogue.]]

** In the final episode, Eric admits that Rudyard honestly has him dead to rights when it comes to running funerals. [[spoiler:While Chapman may make funerals fun, funerals ''aren't really supposed to be fun'', and Chapman focuses so much on keeping people happy because he doesn't know how to help them in their grief.]]

* MaybeEverAfter: After their UnrequitedLoveSwitcheroo, the GrandFinale ends with [[spoiler:Antigone agreeing to ''maybe'' get that coffee together.]]
* MeaningfulName: The florist, Petunia Bloom.
* MellowFellow: {{Gender Flip}}ped by Georgie, who is utterly unflappable, rolling with the punches and not getting bothered by anything. Antigone, annoyed by this spends most of "Flip Flap Flop" trying to get under her skin, and failing. [[spoiler:But when the other undertakers disrespect Rudyard and Antigone, Georgie ''loses it''.]]

With that in mind, they run their first successful funeral in a long time.]]

* BatmanGambit: [[spoiler:In "The Body Snatchers," Antigone knows Eric is so beloved by the town that even if he confessed to his rather stupid mistake, they'd be willing to forgive and help him fix it in no time. However, she ''also'' knows that he's so unwilling to be seen as imperfect and is convinced his reputation would tank that he jumps on the chance to avoid having to tell anyone, which means he agrees to her demand that he close up shop for a whole month and let the Funns take on all his business in exchange for them taking the blame.]]

Added DiffLines:

* GraveRobbing: "The Body Snatchers" revolves around Eric recruiting the Funns to help him do this. Despite the title, they're not removing dead bodies, or even stealing anything; Eric lost his bracelet in one of three coffins he worked on in the same day, and didn't realize until they'd all been buried. He's too embarrassed by his mistake to go through the official channels to get it back, so he and the Funns sneak into the cemetery in the middle of the night to dig the coffins up.

Added DiffLines:

* HypocriteHasAPoint: In "The Body Snatchers," Antigone chews Eric out for being so unwilling to be seen as less than perfect, he won't even ask for help when he clearly needs it. Eric fires back, correctly, that Antigone herself is reluctant to admit she needs help, much less accept it. This doesn't change the fact that Antigone's also completely right, as this conversation occurs when they're ''digging up a grave'' because Eric couldn't own up to a mistake to the village.

* XanatosGambit: Antigone pulls off a rather clever one in "The Body Snatchers." Eric asks for the Funns' help digging up some graves because he won't admit to a mistake he made to the rest of the village. Antigone says they'll only do so... if Eric doesn't do any funerals for two weeks, thus giving them all the business. Every outcome favors the Funns. If Eric agrees, the Funns get all his business for two weeks. If he ''doesn't'' agree, he has to admit to his screw-up, possibly dampening his reputation. [[spoiler:In the end, Antigone agrees to take the fall for him... on the grounds that he close up shop for a ''month''. He agrees, and as she points out, Funn Funerals already has such a bad reputation, they can't actually lose any goodwill because they have none to begin with. Ergo, they had nothing to lose and could only benefit. Unfortunately for her, Eric manages to maneuver the situation to get the last laugh anyway.]]

* AllTherapistsAreMuggles: As Eric learns the hard way in "The Sunshine Treatment," no, grief counselling is not as simple as making people feel happy. You need actual training, and the grieving process is long, complicated, and a ''hell'' of a lot more than can be accomplished in a couple sessions. No amount of good cheer and good intentions can change that.
