Even after learning a few days later that it was a [[SelfFulfillingProphecy]], Celestia [[NeverMyFault doesn't bother to go and reunite with her own daughter]] and instead tries to fill the hole she was responsible for creating with Luna and bestowing Twilight Sparkle with Alicornhood. Because of her being left alone to fend for herself at only four-years old, having all of her friends taken away from her, and being forced to live in the Everfree Forest on her own; [[GoMadFromTheIsolation it took a serious toll on Cozy Glows' psyche]] by the time she turns 14.

* In ''Fanfic/EmpathTheLuckiestSmurf'', Empath seems to think this about Papa Smurf when he reveals the true nature of their relationship in the novel. The Psyche Master then takes Empath away from Papa Smurf and erases Empath's memories so that he would not remember Papa Smurf as being his father. However, it is implied that she might've been the first one to have survived. This is also the backstory of Ran,Chen, and Yukari like their previous incarnations.

Dash always preferred to think her parents had died and made sure she would be left in good hooves, making it very difficult at first to accept the evidence that Scootaloo is her sister]].
* In the ''Series/CriminalMinds'' fanfic ''To live again'', Annie grew up in an orphanage with no information about her real parents (it's revealed later that [[spoiler: she was taken from her mentally ill mother who couldn't even take care of herself, much less a baby and ended up in an asylum, but her father remains unknown, so most likely she was born from an one-night-stand]]). This trope occurs again with her sort-of foster "family" abandoning her one by one, and especially with her "mom", Strauss (which is a messy story). No wonder she has issues.
* Satsuki, Nui, and [[spoiler: Ryuuko]]'s parental situation in ''FanFic/CellarSecrets'' didn't initially start out this way. At first, it was just a DisappearedDad situation, with their father, Soichiro (his name isn't mentioned in the fic), being mentioned as to have left and never returned but, as time went on, their mother, Ragyou lost her mind and was interned in a mental hospital and, shortly after, her secretary, Rei, commits suicide, leaving Satsuki and Nui to find out that their father had passed away, sometime after he left and their mother dies roughly two and half ears since her interment. Fortunately, someone their father knows, Aikurou, steps into help.
* In Creator/AAPessimal's ''Literature/{{Discworld}}'' tales, the Assassins' Guild School sells itself to potential parents via a '''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10383608/1/The-Prospectus Prospectus.]]''' One not inconsiderable selling point is this:

What follows is a memory of Frisk's mother saying the same thing before leaving her child behind and comments that suggest Frisk was living in the streets. These memories prompt Frisk to disobey and go seeking out Toriel.
* In ''[[Fanfic/HarmonyAndValor It Sounds Better Than "Pity Date"]]'' both Flash Sentry and Sci-Twi reveal that they have lost members of their family. Flash's dad walked out on him and his family one day and never came back. Sci-Twi lost both her mom and dad in a semi-truck accident during a road trip.
* Thelea, the protagonist of the ''Franchise/StarWarsLegends'' fan fic series ''[[http://archiveofourown.org/series/393550 TIE Fighter]]'', has issues with this. She starts out believing herself to be an orphan and [[DontYouDarePityMe touchy about it,]] and even when she figures out that's only half true and her DisappearedDad [[spoiler:Grand Admiral Thrawn]] had a valid reason for leaving and for keeping quiet about it, she still has abandonment issues. [[spoiler: And now complicated by her mother having really been PutOnABus and rather than dead, she's merely [[TheBusCameBack waiting at the bus stop.]]]]
* Izuku's father in ''Fanfic/WaitingIsWorthIt'' [[IHaveNoSon left his son and wife when the doctor tells them that Izuku was quirkless]]. [[spoiler:Later, it is implied that he may have ''also'' had a source quirk, may have been [[DomesticAbuse abusive to Inko]] and [[ArchnemesisDad could even be a villain!]]]]
* Just like in [[VideoGame/DragonAgeInquisition canon]], Evelyn’s parents gave her away immediately after they discovered she’s a mage. Her mother still sends monthly letters but it's only for duty, not parental concerns as those letters are basically reports and orders for her daughter to be good and keep staying inside her "prison". Evelyn’s actually somewhat grateful for that because by giving her away when she was too young to get attached to her family, she has time to adjust and get used to her ordeal instead of fighting against it and causing more dangers to herself later.
** The Circles also enforce this trope on their mages. When a mage gives birth ([[ChildByRape usually as a result]] [[RapeAsDrama of rape]]), the child will be immediately taken away whether it's a mage like its mother or not.
* Played with in ''Secret Sunshine'', as to why Ryuuko is raising her niece, Tsukiko (called "Kiko"), because, for some reason, Satsuki didn't want to deal with the responsibilities and, so, while she's present, doesn't do anything besides send checks, coupled with the absence of Kiko's father, effectively making her abandoned.
** As we find out, this happens in Ryuuko's past, when lends more to her conflict with Satsuki. According to her, Satsuki was "kept" and she "got shipped off to elsewhere".
* ''Webcomic/{{REMNANTS}}'':
** When Blake was seven, her parents were killed by other White Fang members.
** Nora and Ren are both orphans.
* ''Fanfic/SuperVillainPrevention101'': The Joker tells Harley that he's killed her parents in a fire. It's unclear if he's lying or not.
* ''Fanfic/SonOfTheSannin'':
** Averted with Naruto, whose adoption by Jiraya and Tsunade forms the basis of the plot.
** Sasuke lost both of his parents like in canon, [[spoiler:though here they die during their coup instead of Itachi executing them to prevent it]]. He was raised by his older brother and [[SparedByTheAdaptation Shisui]].
** Both of Lee's parents were ninja who died the night of the Nine Tales attack. No mention is made of who raised him afterwards.

* In ''Evangelion''/''Street Fighter'' crossover ''Fanfic/NeonGenesisEvangelionSenshiNoMichi'', Gendo dumps Shinji into Gouken's lap when his son is four. A few months later, Peter Langley visits Gouken's dojo, reveals his wife's mental illness is getting worse, and talks Gouken into taking care of Asuka for a couple of months so she does not witness Kyoko snapping utterly. Peter never returned, and after one year he stopped calling.

* ''Fanfic/BurningCoals'': As a child, Neo's parents were killed in a house fire.

* ''Fanfic/ADiplomaticVisit'': Discussed in chapter 15, with the two main cases being borderline examples. ** Sci-Twi's parents were killed by a DrunkDriver, leaving Shining Armor and Cadance to raise her.
** Sunset mentions her parents dumped her at an orphanage as a foal, making it clear they didn't want her.
** Starlight Glimmer was also raised in an orphanage.
** The sequel ''Integration'' reveals that Human Cadance's parents died during her early teen years.

* ''Fanfic/TheSecondTry'': Gendo abandoned Shinji when he was four. As far as Asuka –who was also abandoned by her father right after her mother’s funeral-, is concerned, [[spoiler:Gendo has no right to talk about his granddaughter after abandoning Shinji.]] Later on, Shinji stated that his father never understood that you can love another people only because they’re related to you.

Izuku's adoptive parents are very attentive to his needs and are always trying to provide a safe and happy home for him even as he grapples with his identity crisis and growing powers. At the same time, he spent the last ten years of his life since discovering that he was an alien wondering why his biological family never came to retrieve him, wondering if they were held up, didn't care about him, or were dead. Anyone who knows Superman's backstory knows that the latter is true.

By the start of the doujin, he has not ever seen Gendo in ten years. Nothing is known about the parents of the other pilots, but given [[NotSoDifferent Asuka's reaction to Shinji's history about his parents]] and what happened to her in the original canon, it is likely that she is also an [[ConvenientlyAnOrphan orphan]] and/or does not get along with her parents.
