* Ironically for someone with outlandish godlike powers, Saiki is one of the most levelheaded and sane people in his world. He's surrounded by all sorts of wacky and over-the-top personalities, such as the dimwitted Nendou, the narcissistic Teruhashi, the delusional chuunibyou Kaidou, his envious genius brother Kusuke and so much more, all who keep intruding in his life and ruining his desired peace and quiet. Alas, there just so happens to be so many more crazy people in the Pantheon... more annoyances to avoid. Thankfully, the feeling is very mutual for a few. For example, Kyon is a normal dude who has to deal with all sorts of nonsense from Haruhi and his clubmates. Learning how his clubmates are a RealityWarper, time traveler, esper and robot, Saiki wholeheartedly agrees that his friends are crazy. Seeing Spongebob and Patrick's antics makes him relate very quickly to Squidward, who's forced to deal with their nonsense on a regular basis as their neighbour. Squidward, on his part, can happily vent to Saiki about the two annoying him. Kagami Hiiragi also became a friend of his, with her finding him a nice reprieve whenever Konata gets too exhausting for her to handle. And then there's Charlie the Unicorn... hearing of how he was dragged into multiple bizarre and dangerous adventures by two chaos spirits makes Saiki very sympathetic towards the horned equine. He'd absolutely hate it if someone took him kicking and screaming into their "exciting" adventures, so his wishes to be left alone resonate with him a whole lot. Charlie's glad that someone understands how he feels; it's a nice change of pace compared to what he normally went through.

** Not all psychics are friendly, unfortunately. Some are either evil or dangerous, not exactly the kind of company Saiki tolerates. For example, he has no desire to join Darryl Revok's scanners supremacist gang. He sees no point in taking over the world and oppressing others when he can just exist quietly in the crowd. Plus, isn't running a society hard anyway? Sounds like he just wants to kill people. Given Lucy's unpredictable and violent behavior, he'd rather stay away from her than risk a violent incident between them. And before you ask, he's not a Diclonus because of the magenta hair. His hair pins aren't his "horns" too. On the other hand, he pities Carrie White for the bullying and abuse she suffered at school and home, knowing that she wouldn't have gone on a rampage if she wasn't treated so badly. Huh... Darryl and Lucy also seemed to have bad pasts, if he remembered correctly. Would they not have become so violent if they were just left alone? Good grief... people can really screw things up by meddling with other peoples business.

Good grief... people can really screw things up by meddling with other peoples business. And Tetsuo Shima... given his InferioritySuperiorityComplex and other issues, it seemed that he wasn't prepared to hold such powers at all, especially when his body started mutating uncontrollably. Saiki guesses not everyone is ready to hold all that power safely... maybe being born with them helped his body get accustomed to it? Who knows how that works.

** See those funny-looking hair pins? Those are actually limiters made to restrain his psychic powers. You see, Saiki doesn't always have perfect control over his powers, as some of them are always on and he has no means of turning them off without resorting to special gadgets. Should they come off, something might go haywire and cause a big disaster to happen. Similarly, Aki Izayoi wears a headband to limit her psychic abilities which allow her to manifest her Duel Monsters, though perhaps it's only a MagicFeather, but that's rather uncertain. Still, having been feared and isolated from others due to her powers led her to be distant and to hate her powers, with it taking a while for her to open her heart as well as accept and control her psychic powers. In a way, Saiki is still learning how to live with his powers as well. The two became casual aquaintances, with Saiki wondering if her headband really is a limiter or not. He's not interested in the whole Duel Monsters things, though. Feels pretty overblown for a children's card game if you ask him.
** With his power, some might wonder why he doesn't do anything more with them. He could imrove the quality of living, become a superhero, or even take over the world, so why is he wasting his potential? In his perspective, he isn't wasting them, those things just aren't interesting to him at all. Why bother doing all of that when he could just live out his day-to-day life? Unfortunately, this doesn't stop others from trying to push him into more exciting situations anyway. For example, the New Alliance of Free Stars has a few members with some esper capabilities, and they have some plans to rope him in their missions and business. Alas, their recruitment techniques fall flat when executed for Saiki somehow always knows just how to evade their grasp. Seriously, why can't anyone just leave him alone? He doesn't want to go to space and talk to aliens, or even work as a government patsy. People are so bothersome sometimes.

* His name is Kusuo Saiki, and he is an esper. Spontaneously developing psychic powers in the womb, he has an incredibly large and wide array of abilities at his disposal like mind reading, moving things with his mind, teleportation, changing his physical sex, erasing memories, changing the weather, rewinding time, and so much more. So powerful is he that he's fully capable of destroying the entire world in just 3 days. So what does he do with his phenomenal cosmic power? Not much, actually. He desires to live a quiet, unassuming life and his powers tend to inconvenience himself regularly, so he only really uses them for very mundane reasons. Unfortunately for him, he's surrounded by wacky and larger-than-life personalities who love dragging him into all sorts of unwanted situations. And so Saiki tries to survive his high school years with his psychic powers, trying to live out his normal life as much as possible while navigating all sorts of bizarre events thanks to his friends.
* One day while walking home from school, Saiki noticed a strange letter fluttering down from the sky. Grabbing it, he noticed the words "To Kusuo Saiki" and opened it, revealing a paper notice inviting him to a place called the "Trope Pantheon". Not wanting to bother with such an insane request, he simply tossed the letter in a trash can. Then he noticed a bright light down an alleyway, which he ignored. He kept ignoring other bizarre signs until he reached his home, upon which opening the front door was he transported to the Court of the Gods. Already annoyed and wanting to go home, he just listened to the strange people talk about how he's now a god and will have a temple in the Pantheonic realm and that his friends and family will be his Heralds and other weird nonsense. All Saiki could think during all of this is that he wants to go home and that he has to deal with a lot more annoyances now. Good grief... this divinity stuff is going to be a pain.
* In his world, Saiki is an anomaly. His parents are completely normal humans, yet he was born with psychic powers. There are others with strange abilities, like Reita ISeeDeadPeople being able to see ghosts and Aiura's AuraVision, yet his powers are overwhelmingly strong with special abilities for any situation. While he's truly one of a kind back home, in the Pantheon... not so much. There happens to be many different people with psychic capabilities living in the divine realm, so it wasn't too surprising that Saiki would bump into a good chunk of them.
** The first psychic he met is a teenage boy just like himself. The first thing Saiki noticed about the boy was that he looked so... normal. A plain face, a generic hairstyle, and overall a very unremarkable presence. And yet, he could sense a powerful psychic aura emitting from him. How could this be? The pinkette approached him, and so they talked. Shigeo Kageyama, or Mob to some, explained his viewpoint on psychic powers; that they don't make him better than everyone else. and how he strives to improve himself on other aspects like training his physical body and keeping his powers in check, all the while he lives out his day to day life. An interesting philosophy, Saiki thought. Maybe he is getting too reliant on his powers sometimes. Despite their immense power, both of them just want to live ordinary lives... Seems like he's not the only one who feels that way. The two boys quickly became friends and talk to each other often about their lives.
** With there being so many other psychics around, there also comes a lot of different experiences and stories. And while Saiki gets along with much of them well enough, he can't help but internally comment on their usually bizarre and eventful stories. The PSI kids like Ness and his friends have fought some really weird stuff... he really couldn't believe it at first glance. What's up with their world if they fought stuff like giant lamps and sassy crows on a daily basis? He wonders how Matilda ended up so well-adjusted with such neglectful parents who cared more about TV than her existence. He does agree that the Trunchbull woman seems like the worst teacher to have. Hearing about how the Group 1 kids live in a world where espers are the norm, he wonders if he would finally pass as normal if everyone in his world had psychic powers... scratch that, that would be a total disaster. While a bit impressed at Sumireko's similarly varied psychic powers, her personality makes him think that she's what Kaidou would be like if he was the esper instead. Also, he has not interest in joining her club, nope. Razputin's mind-delving powers to pique his interest; he's never done anything like that before. Then again, if he does that, he might see something he's rather not want to see... And finally, Saiki sees Charles Xavier as a sort of CoolOldGuy, mainly for his advice on how to deal with his telepathy. It's nice to have a conversation with him sometimes.
* One of Saiki's most well known powers is to read the minds of others around him. With him able to see what others are thinking, it allows him to predict their actions, bypass their tricky plans and react to their thoughts. Unfortunately, not only does it have a large range, but he can't turn it off without wearing a germanium-alloy ring, so he's constantly barraged with everyone's thought processes, giving him frequent metaphorical migraines. But for as much as he got used to reading others thoughts, he wasn't so ready to have his mind be read. He tasted his own medicine when he crossed paths with a certain Haruka Kotoura, startling each other when they accidentally conversed with each other in their own thoughts. After getting over the mutual shock, they quickly became friends, with them being able to converse within their minds very easily. Saiki was pretty dismayed to hear about all the suffering Haruka went through due to her telepathy, but is glad that she was able to get better with the help of her friends. Through her, he met and befriended fellow mind reader Satori Komeiji, who was glad to find another person who doesn't fear her. Saiki feels that it would be hypocritical of him to fear her for constantly reading his mind since he doesn that to others as well. He can get preferring the company of animals over people, though. And then there are those who simply went mad from constant telepathy like Mao and Psycho Mantis, and those who destroyed their mind in an effort to rid themselves of the ability like Satori's sister Koishi. Saiki simply pities them, knowing that constantly reading minds isn't really a fun power much of the time. Perhaps he's just lucky that he's just annoyed with others thoughts and not driven insane from them, given the other horror stories surrounding telepaths.
* With all this immense power, you might've thought Saiki's life is full of excitement and adventure. Thing is, he doesn't want it that way. He'd vastly prefer to go through his life as a normal high school student with no drama or crazy mishaps and keeps his powers a secret from everyone else. Of course, having superpowers tends to make things a bit abnormal by default, but that doesn't stop him from dodging crazy happenings and social interactions as much as possible. This obviously didn't change at all within the Pantheon, as Saiki tries his hardest to avoid the realm's regular chaotic insanity as much as he can. Hyde Kido and Ren Fujii can relate to such a desire; as much as they want to live a regular life, being bequeathed powers and forced to participate in deadly situations make it rather difficult to maintain. Saiki's glad that there are others who can understand his issues and sometimes hangs out with them to do normal teenager things.
** As one who wants to live a normal life, he doesn't want to be bothered at all and refuses to bother others in turn. He simply just wants to continue his current affairs as undisturbed as possible. Whatever happens, he'll simply try to ignore and move on. Unfortunately, some supposedly normal people are quite bothersome. Yoshikage Kira's idea of a quiet life is to continue his serial killing lifestyle while remaining undetected among others, to blend in the crowd as he murders people for their hands. Saiki can't comprehend how that can be considered a quiet life; in what part of living a quiet life involves ending lives? He just thinks the Stand user is delusional for believing that. The Dursleys, obsessed with normalcy and hating anything that they see as aberrations to that, annoy him a whole lot. Why can't they just leave others alone? They already think he's freakish for his pink hair and antennae, he doesn't need them to be further nuisances if they discover his psychic powers.
** His desire to be normal leads him to go out of his way to be average in everything in order to not stand out. From grades, to sport, to his appearance, he makes sure that he blends in with the rest of the crowd as much as possible. It's this obsession with normalcy that makes him idolize genuinely average people. For example, Hiroshi Satou is as plain and generic as anyone could possibly be, and Saiki admires him exactly because of that. His admiration of him gets into stalkerlike levels at times, for he sometimes follows him around in school to gush about how mundane he is. This behavior carries over into the Pantheon, where he tails behind normal people to admire their comfortable mediocrity. Makoto Naegi and Nate Adams are some of those he follows, envying their genericness and in Nate's case he thinks that he should be happy that he's average instead of trying to be more special. Speaking of that, he's rather miffed that Hajime Hinata threw away his genericness to become the omnitalented Izuru Kamukura. Noting that becoming special only made him bored and unhappy, Saiki believes that he should've remained the same and continued his plain, uninteresting life.
* Teenagers are notoriously controlled by their hormones, obsessing over romance and dates and boy/girlfriends and whatnot. If you asked Saiki what he thinks about that, he would call all of that an unnecessary waste of his time. Such desires elude him and he has no interest in having any girlfriends whatsoever, so no matter how many girls try throwing themselves at him, he'll ignore their advances every time. To someone like Boa Hancock, this is merely a challenge for her to overcome. After all, she is the most beautiful woman around, so there's no way he could resist her charms, right? So she appeared before him in all her gorgeous glory, waiting for the inevitable... and he just walked away stone faced. How could this be?! While she wallowed in her frustration, Saiki simply grumbled internally. She reminds him way too much of Teruhashi for his comfort... good grief. Why can't people just leave him alone?
* With so many godlike powers and abilities, one might wonder what is his most powerful and dangerous. The answer is a deceptively simple one. His mind control ability allows him to convince others that something unnatural is normal, but if he uses this power on too many people, then reality itself would change so that said unnatural thing becomes real. His world following gag manga tropes? All the AmusingInjuries and wacky hair colors? They're all real, and he's the reason why. Needless to say, he's very careful with this power to not screw something major up. This ability is not to dissimilar to Haruhi Suzumiya's reality warping capabilities, as she can will things into existence and change the fundamentals of reality by subconsciously desiring it, even if she's completely unaware of her powers. Having heard about her from Kyon, Saiki has gone out of his way to NOT out himself as an esper to her, believing that she won't stop pestering him to join her club and her misadventures if she finds out that he's a kind of person that she finds interesting.
* For a boy with the power to manipulate reality at his fingertips, he really doesn't use them much at such grand scales. Most of the time, he uses them for his personal convenience, like avoiding social interaction and manipulate objects without physically touching them. Stuff like superheroics and taking over the world have no allure to him, for his only desire in life is to graduate in peace. Why should he be obliged to use them for "the greater good"? That's not what he wants in life. Similarly, Son Gohan has immense power and potential within, enough to surpass his own father if he put in enough training and effort, but the Saiyan instinct for fighting isn't very strong within, and he'd rather focus on studying than sparring with others, so he's not as strong as his dad. Saiki certainly knows what it's like to not be into such "exciting" incidents like the rest, and noted that he wouldn't like it either if he was forced to fight world-ending threats on a regular basis. On a side note, Gohan's superhero alias reminds him of Cyborg Ciderman a little too much. Maybe cheesiness runs across the universe. Still, he finds Gohan to be much more bearable than the other Saiyans due to his calmer, more down-to-earth personality.
* The problem with being the most powerful person around is that it makes everything boring as there's no such thing as a challenging task anymore. When every problem can be solved without any physical exertion or hard thinking, it leaves one terribly wanting for genuine stimulation. And it's this overwhelming power that makes Saiki such an outwardly dull person, for his powers trivialize many things so much that it's difficult for him to get excited over anything. Turn out, Saitama is suffering from very similar problems. Turns out having the ability to kill anything in one punch makes for a very boring superhero career. Where's the blood-pumping excitement if it doesn't take any effort to defeat the bad guys? Such a power left him terribly bored with his dream career. Add to him being surrounded by all sorts of wacky, exuberent personalities and you have a guy that Saiki can relate to pretty well, dangerous career aside. They certainly don't mind each other's presence, at least. Sometimes they just sit around and stare at each other. No, Saitama can't read Saiki's mind, but they both still find this affair a decent way to spend time.
* Normally, Saiki's not a very emotional fellow nor is he one to openly show his love for something. But if there's one thing he is very passionate about, it's coffee jelly. It was almost love at first bite when he first tasted the delectable dessert. If he sees any coffee jelly on the shelves, he'll buy as much as possible. If it's on the menu, he'll order it. Heck, he'll do practically anything as long as he's rewarded in coffee jelly. Some even joke that it's his one and only true love! And so a funny, yet helpful tidbit spread among the deities: If you want Saiki to do something for you, simply bribe him with coffee jelly and he'll bend backwards for the tasty treat. It works every time.
* So if Saiki doesn't dislike coffee jelly, what does he really dislike? Well, it's bugs, and it's because he cannot read their thoughts unlike humans. It has nothing to do with him finding them disgusting and scary and that he won't even use his psychic powers to touch them, no sirree. His total avoidance of the Hall of Pantheon/Insects is based off of a totally logical decision and not an irrational fear. He most certainly does not relate to Misty's ginormous fear of Bug type Pokemon, not at all. He's totally not afraid of insects, no way he freak out at the sight of them, that would be silly!
