* ''Series/{{QI}}'' will probably never be seen in the United States (legally) due to the enormous cost of licensing all the images and sounds they use on the show. While you can get the first three series on Region 2 DVD from a few sources, it only works if you have a Region 2 or regionless DVD player.

** And BBC America announced it would be broadcast in the United States starting February 2015, making this a successfully InvertedTrope.

* Due to {{Creator/Nickelodeon}} Japan's shutdown in 2009 (The channel was stepped down to a block on Creator/{{Animax}} in Japan and even then that block was later off the air), Japanese Nicksters have no access to cool new sitcoms like ''Series/{{Victorious}}'', later seasons of ''Series/ICarly'' (which is probably a mercy, as the Japanese ''maybe'' got spared from the horrid mess that is the Seddie Arc), ''Series/HowToRock'' or even other stuff like ''Series/HouseOfAnubis'', ''Series/EveryWitchWay'' and ''Series/IAmFrankie''. Averted with some shows like ''WesternAnimation/ThePenguinsOfMadagascar'' and later ''Series/TheThundermans'', both airing on NHK. Kinda makes you wonder who gets to dub them if the channel didn't close.

* Despite being co-produced by Canada, there is currently no Region 1 DVD of ''Series/ShoeboxZoo''.

* ''Series/PJKatiesFarm'' [[http://variety.com/1998/tv/news/nelvana-buys-pj-katie-rights-1117469623/ was supposed to see a release outside of Canada in the late 90's]], but never did so. [[note]] For what it's worth, it did get exported...kind of. It was broadcast in the US, but only in certain parts of the country that is close to the border where you can get Canadian TV (i.e Detroit). [[/note]]

* ''Series/MisterRogersNeighborhood'', despite being wildly popular in his native U.S., was never broadcast outside of America, though many Canadians were able to watch the show due to the widespread availability of PBS on cable. However knowledge of the show was exported by expatriates and through PopculturalOsmosis via references by shows that do get exported. The Twitch marathon stream is practically the first time anyone outside the US and Canada is officially getting to watch the show.

* This happened to Series/RebeldeWay in Brazil. While the Mexican remake aired several times and was hugely popular, the original version was never shown in the country. They were negotiating this and even considered a straight local remake in 2003(?) but it never turned to fruition. It would have been the first foreign adaptation of the telenovela.

* A majority of live-action children's shows by Creator/Studio100, such as ''Series/KabouterPlop'', ''Piet Piraat'', ''Mega Mindy'', and ''Series/SamsonEnGert'' have only aired in their native country Belgium.

* ''Series/ShiningTimeStation'' was exported to Canada[[note]]ironically, where it was filmed[[/note]], Singapore, Malaysia, New Zealand and the Philippines, but many other countries didn't get the show. This was probably due to the show's status of being EditedForSyndication, where they took old ''WesternAnimation/ThomasTheTankEngine'' episodes from ITV and stuffed additional human characters into it and other countries' networks thought it was a waste of resources, especially when they already have the rights to the real deal.

** A very similar situation to AFN happens with U.S. territories that are not considered part of the mainland like Guam, the Virgin Islands, as well as island territories such as Bermuda. They will only get 4 or 5 channels at the maximum (usually PBS, TBN and three other channels, with one of the usually being the aformentioned AFN), and some of the territories do not get networks common across the mainland. For example, the Virgin Islands do not have Creator/{{ABC}}, Creator/{{CBS}} and Creator/{{FOX}} only exist as digital subchannels in Guam, and Bermuda gets the short end of the stick, having only two channels: CBS and ABC. The "shows being several years behind" problem also happens with said PBS affiliates airing older shows not aired in years on mainland affiliates: for example, ''Series/TheNoddyShop'' ran until 2004 on KGTF (Guam's affiliate), while ''Series/ShiningTimeStation'' ran until 2001 on WTJX (the Virgin Islands' affiliate). Like AFN, the stations both improved and most of their programming is up-to-date as of August 2019.

** Semi averted for the Philippines at least for one day (as part of Team Kamen Rider's Rider Week) for ''The First Generation'' in April 2021 via the Toei Tokusatsu World [=YouTube=] channel!

Ironically, other shows made by the UK branch of Disney (which dubbed Violetta), including Henry Hugglemonster and [[PeripheryHatedom the widely despied short series]] Nina Needs To Go have hit the airwaves, but not this one.

** Five years? ''Days of our Lives'' ran '''12''' years behind when it began its run on CBC Channel 8 in Barbados, and the country never caught up all the way to when CBC chose not to get the show from the 1999-2000 season onwards. In 2014.

*** IN the US, it's finally fully averted thanks to Mill Creek! All Ultraman media are coming out on Blu-Ray and DVD in the US.

* After the murder of George Floyd in 2020, ''Series/{{COPS}}'', which was for a long time seen as promoting overly aggressive policing, was swiftly pulled from the airwaves and production shut down. Though production would resume a few months later, it was made clear at the same time that the new episodes would only be shown overseas and the show would not be returning to American airwaves for the foreseeable future.

** In 2016, Netflix announced that they're going worldwide. The fans cheered... Then found those shows nowhere on Netflix in their regions. Turns out that the show isn't available on Netflix in all countries due to contractual obligations with Saban, as the countries covered by the contract only included those that Netflix already operated in and not future markets. Cue headdesk.

** The AFN television station on Okinawa is an excellent example. During the middle 1970's, for instance, that station mostly ran reruns of programs that had broadcast in the U.S. a season or so previously during prime time, and old movies during most of the rest of the day.
