* ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf'': Genma is always berating Ranma for not being man enough, take it like a man, man up, etc. He signed a contract to his wife Nodoka promising to raise Ranma to be a "man among men" or they would both commit {{seppuku}}. Nodoka's ready to enforce it at a moment's notice for things like "seeing her son wearing a dress".

* ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf'': Zigzagged. Whilst Genma Saotome is always berating introduced with a propensity to berate, mock and jeer his son Ranma for not his apparent lack of proper "manliness", there's initially no real evidence that Ranma is particularly gender-nonconforming ([[GenderBender involuntary transformations into a girl aside]]), and it's more that Genma is a macho asshole and that's just one of the ways he expresses both the machoness and being man enough, an asshole. However, about halfway into the story, it's revealed that Genma was only able to take it like a man, man up, etc. He signed a contract to Ranma on his lifelong training journey because he promised Nodoka, Genma's wife Nodoka promising to raise and Ranma's mom, that Genma and Ranma would commit {{seppuku}} if she met them and she judged Ranma to be have failed to become a "man true man among men" or they would both commit {{seppuku}}. Nodoka's ready men. Much of the remainder of the series has a recurring plotline of Ranma having to enforce it at a moment's notice disguise himself as his [[ArrangedMarriage fiancée]] Akane Tendo's fictitious female cousin whenever Nodoka drops by for things like "seeing her a visit, out of fear that she'll have Ranma killed if she learns about the turning into a girl thing. It's milked for plenty of drama, including one story where Nodoka nearly ''does'' execute Ranma for [[ItMakesSenseInContext dressing up in girl's clothing]], but towards the series' end, it finally resolves itself happily with Nodoka deciding Ranma is a manly son wearing even when he's a dress".girl.

** ''Literature/LordOfTheRings'' of course, has Denethor and Faramir. Denethor openly disowns his second son upon being informed of Boromir's death, in a particularly shocking monologue. While it is never outright stated, the source of Denethor's hatred seems to be Faramir's quieter and softer manner. He's a competent warrior, but doesn't like it and in Denethor's view [[ARealManIsAkiller this is unmanly]]. Denethor is also hypocritical, as he genuinely respects "Thorongil": whom it turns out is Aragorn, and the similarities between Aragorn and Faramir are actually a plot point. Meeting Faramir teaches Éowyn that there are decent men in the world besides her brother and Aragorn, so she doesn't need to uselessly pine for a very very taken (and as a result oblivious) man.

* Withen Ashkevron in the ''Literature/LastHeraldMageTrilogy'' had a firstborn son, Vanyel, who pretty much came out of the nursery looking and acting more like a girl, and quite uninterested in masculine pursuits other than horseback riding. Withen's wife Treesa encouraged Van's love of nice clothes and music, which Withen tried to berate out of him and had a hireling try to ''beat'' him straight. Over about twenty years of CharacterDevelopment Withen becomes first more tolerant, then accepting and outright supportive, but up through Van's teens he was outright abusive. He also had some trouble with his eldest daughter Lissa, who was a {{Tomboy}} as a child and grew up to be an ActionGirl, but less than Van; she wasn't the heir and could be fostered out, and it's noted that one Ashkevron girl in every generation takes after the menfolk anyway. Withen is bursting with pride the one time his grown daughter was shown visiting as a Captain of the Guard.
