When Hana refuses to abandon tankery, her mother expels Hana from the Isuzu home, although they reconcile later after Hana puts on a tankery-inspired flower arrangement display. It should be noted that tankery ''is'' a feminine pursuit in the series universe, but Hana's rather traditional mother doesn't think much of it.

Whilst Genma Saotome is introduced with a propensity to berate, mock and jeer his son Ranma for his apparent lack of proper "manliness", there's initially no real evidence that Ranma is particularly gender-nonconforming ([[GenderBender involuntary transformations into a girl aside]]), and it's more that Genma is a macho asshole and that's just one of the ways he expresses both the machoness and being an asshole. However, about halfway into the story, it's revealed that Genma was only able to take Ranma on his lifelong training journey because he promised Nodoka, Genma's wife and Ranma's mom, that Genma and Ranma would commit {{seppuku}} if she met them and she judged Ranma to have failed to become a true man among men. Much of the remainder of the series has a recurring plotline of Ranma having to disguise himself as his [[ArrangedMarriage fiancée]] Akane Tendo's fictitious female cousin whenever Nodoka drops by for a visit, out of fear that she'll have Ranma killed if she learns about the turning into a girl thing. It's milked for plenty of drama, including one story where Nodoka nearly ''does'' execute Ranma for [[ItMakesSenseInContext dressing up in girl's clothing]], but towards the series' end, it finally resolves itself happily with Nodoka deciding Ranma is a manly son even when he's a girl.

He also had some trouble with his eldest daughter Lissa, who was a {{Tomboy}} as a child and grew up to be an ActionGirl, but less than Van; she wasn't the heir and could be fostered out, and it's noted that one Ashkevron girl in every generation takes after the menfolk anyway. Withen is bursting with pride the one time his grown daughter was shown visiting as a Captain of the Guard.
