There are Silver Skeletons that roll around you and try to flank you and cut you down with scimitars and massive gold skeletons that try to take you down with enormous cleavers, but it's the Black Skeletons that will give you nightmares: unlike the others who will immediately pursue you the second they see you, these just stand there, waiting, as if asking you to come closer. They won't move, they'll just stand there, watching you. The first time you see them, you know they're trouble, but it's not until you experience them for yourself that you understand how horrible they really are: They're black, with red eyes, and they breathe smoke and fire, and the moment that you get close enough, they'll immediately spring at you with a double katana slash that will kill most players with one hit, even if they block. If you try projectiles or magic attacks, they'll slowly walk towards you, shrugging off anything but an experienced player's best arrows and strongest spells, and the worst part is if you decide to run after you attack them: they will follow you further than any other enemy in the game, to the point that you usually can only shake them off by leaving the level entirely, and even then, if they've been chasing you for most of the level, you'll half expect them to be waiting for you in the Nexus. Oh, but don't despair, they're usually only guarding rare items, and you can get past them, if you're careful, without having them chase you. [[OhCrap Except for that one that guards the boss room of 4-2, and is standing directly in front of the door.]]
*** That's not the worst Black Skeleton in the level. Heaven help any player who tries to beat 4-3 on Black World Tendency, as at the end of a path on a steep cliff lies... a [[SuperpoweredEvilSide Black Phantom]] Dual-Katana Black Skeleton.
*** At first the Black Skeletons are indeed that scary, but an experienced player can easily predict the slashing move and backstab it. As long as you have a reasonably good shield like the Purple Flame Shield in Level 1-1 you will be ok. However, you will definitely think this when you see Black Phantom versions of enemies.

***** Mind you, there are really only two ways to get Black World Tendency: intentionally (so you can snag a rare demon that grants a colorless demon soul or to challenge yourself with a really difficult level) or through serious incompetence (you constantly revived yourself into human form only to be killed again and again until the world turned black). The best advice this troper can give any player is NEVER revive yourself (after patching, dying in soul form has no effect on world tendency). There's an easy to find item to equip that will keep your health at around 75% in soul form, and if after you beat a boss, you go to the nexus and suicide, it has no effect on world tendency, so you can go through levels as often as you like with no effect on world tendency until you beat the boss. This way, the difficulty stays at HarderThanHard rather than escalating to "so hard you'll want to give up video games forever". Besides, while many of the best items and weapons in the game can only be gotten at White World Tendency or Black World Tendency, white is actually survivable for more than sixty seconds for the average gamer.
